@havima -- Hope you are feeling better and welcome back.

A big thank you to Sam and DQ for creating this thread and giving a wonderful place to discuss the various characters and nuances of the show.

I was watching a few of the old episodes and wanted to share my thoughts. There have been several "special" characters(guest) introduced in the show who supported the story in their own way.

1) Dr. Sinha -- He was the doctor who introduced Dev to Sonakshi and recommended her as the best. He gave the impression that no one else is better than her to Dev.

2) Sameer -- To show Dev's way of buying things to make his sisters and mom happy. That he would do anything for them.

3) Kushal Roy -- Here Dev was ready to put Sonakshi's personal reputation on the line just to ensure that she did not leave the job. For Sonakshi to understand Dev's mentality when it came to his mom.

4) Khatri-- To show the kind of hardship faced by Ishwari and also the way she handled it. It was also to show that Dev was very much aware of her struggles, not just about money, but also about saving her virtue.

5) Natasha. -- For Dev to realize his need for a friend and confidant with whom he could share his thoughts and feelings, to seek advice and be himself. She also helped Dev understand what Sonakshi meant to him.

6)Ranveer -- For Neha to understand what she wants in her life, to help her prioritize. Also for Dev to better understand that love itself is not enough. But Dev is a slow learner.

7) Ritwick -- For Dev to realize the blunder he made when he broke up with Sonakshi. To also help understand the depth of his love for Sonakshi. He also helped give a better understanding of Sonakshi's psyche like how much she set store for her father's approbation. In the end he also helped Sonakshi accept her love for Dev.

8) Ayaan -- To show the tenacity of Sonakshi and her way of protecting the loved ones and her care for her family. He was also there to show how Dev supported Sonakshi even against his mom's wishes. One other aspect of this character was to show how Dev dealt with anyone trying to harm his family.

9) Jatin -- For Sonakshi to understand her role in the breakup and also to show her other side which is hidden till now. He is there to give insight to Sonakshi's personality.

Some of the other characters like Dev's teacher, Chef, Dev's police friend added meaning to the show. Dev's teacher told Sonakshi about his past and his growth from rags to riches. Chef gave an insight to the level Dev would to correct his mistakes, even accidental ones.

But in all this one character introduced seems very much out of place. It is "Madhumita". She was introduced a few episodes before the leap as Bijoy-- Asha's new neighbor. She was a Bengali and Bijoy was shown to be quite smitten by her. I am finding myself at a loss to understand the role of this character in reference to the story. It was shown that she did not know Bijoy family from before or that she knew Dev or Sonakshi. Then what was the need for this character.

Till date all the characters, even the characters with very minimal role did have a part to play in the story. But Madhumita was shown to have no real part to play in the story or are we missing something. Is she part of the backstory for if and when CVs show parts of the 7 yeas of the leap.

Somehow I feel she is connected to Dev after the separation and he might have used her to keep tabs on Sonakshi, not on personal but more on professional level. To ensure that she and her family were safe after being thrown out of home. She feels like the missing link for so many questions.

Hi Shaavi, lovely take on the characters who seem to have played key roles in bringing the characteristics of the protagonists.
Madhumitha seems to have no role. There was no reason given for her introduction just prior to leap. It is very difficult to believe that Dev would let Sona n her family out into the streets without any support. There must be a back story to this. I don't know if it is Madhumidha but he would have made sure that they were ok. This might come out later for Sona and Boses to realise that Dev never left them and that he deserved to know his daughter's truth.

@Shaavi thank you for the post, of all the supporting characters introduced, very well put 👏 I hope Jatin too helps both Sona and Dev here, as they both need to get rid of this anger built up inside since so many years!

Madumita..could have been for filler parts to make it a bit lighter..in the Bose house!!

But then again CV's tend to surprise us a lot!

@shaavi yes there is a lot of speculation about madhumita in the forum. I have seen that actress in some other serial so her introduction must have some bearing on the story.

The cvs have left us so many questions & few answers. Hope they give us some logical answers.
