What's that got to do with price of potato? All kids were raised without their father. The point that was made was whether single mothers should have kids or not or should children should not be born without father or father's love. Single mother's have been raising children successfully since the beginning of time as well as single fathers. The point is what kind of upbringing you are giving to your child, not how many people raising a kid.

Take for example, Mahabharata. Kunti and Madri got pregnant AFTER their husbands died using the chant. In Ramayana, Sita found out she was pregnant with Luv-Kush AFTER she went to jungle. Should they have been aborted in the womb?

Facts of MB and Ramayan

Kunti and Madri both were the wives of Maharaj Pandu. They got their five children not after his death.but while he was alive. With Pandu's permission Kunti got three and Madri got two sons. Pandu died when Arjun was four years old.

Sita was pregnant with Luv Kush while she was in Ayodhya only. Every one celebrated her pregnancy. But Ram sent her to forest much later on hearing the comments of a washer man. Seven months Pregnant Sita was left in the forest.

😊 Interesting discussion specially with respect to the context of Mahabharata.
Bheem married Hidimba knowing he wouldn't be able to accompany her and their son ever.

Arjuna married Chitrangada and left her and their son in their states because he cannot bring them with him to Indraprastha as promised to Draupadi.

And many more instances, starting with Kunti bearing Karna - the most complicated and tragic hero wont have happened if such bars were put on women. No woman in her sane mind would 'kill' a baby for whatever XYZ reason if she herself doesn't want to. 😳 Fathers, relationships, divorce etc have nothing to do with it. 😕

I am not taking part in the on going discussions about a single mother's capacity to raise a child or not. I wanted to correct the mythological facts that are mentioned as examples saying that Kunti and Madri got children after Pandu's death and Sita came to know about her pregnancy after she was banished. Since it is mytho we should get the facts right and quote them.

I want to correct your line also. Arjun left Chitra and Babhru not because he gave a promise to Draupadi. Chitra's father agreed for the marriage on one condition that is whoever is born to Chitra after marriage Arjun should leave them as the successor of Manipur. Since the mother can not leave the child behind Chitra stayed back.I hope you understood it happened due to that pre marriage condition.Arjun' s promise and all that is Star Bharat version not the Epic version.

After the Kurukshetra war Babhru became the King of Manipur . Chitra came to Hastinapur and stayed with Arjun alongside Draupadi,Subhadra and Ulupi till the Mahaprasthan of Pandavas.

True. That was the reason since they needed Chitra's son to succeed the reign. Oh I love MB. But there was also this reason why Arjuna never brought anyone else except Subhadra to Indraprashtha. True SP version of MB was nonsense in most of its parts although visually great and entertaining 😆.

I didn't read Ramayana, I mean tried but it didn't interest me at all. But yes, the point is about how mothers deciding on raising their children alone has always been a part of Indian Ancient Sabhyata 😊. Not sure why it is humiliated so much today. Women are perfectly capable of raising their children alone and providing them with a healthy atmosphere, many many many of my friends are grown up as wonderful human beings, specially girls, since they understand the struggle of their mothers more. 😊And when I compare them with the ones who are brought up in a conservative, abusive, money-minded family atmosphere, the difference is quite evident.

Although, many of them once grown up, are able to identify and criticize their own family since they grow up the sense of 'right' and 'wrong' and choose better life for themselves. Unlike Dev 😕

Whenever I think of the Pandava lineage,I feel that Chitrangada's son Babruvahana should have inherited the throne.I know it's not possible but after Abhimanyu,he was the most capable son of the Pandavas.

Now coming back to the topic, single parenting was present in our ancient epics too.Because the Pandavas were raised alone by Kunti.Ghatotkacha was raised alone by Hidimbaa. And even Abhimanyu was raised by Subhadra with the help of Krishna and Balaram. It's a recurring theme in the epic.

In the Ramayana,Sita single handedly raised her children.

On the other hand we have Karna who is my most favourite character in the epic.He was set afloat a river by his own mother. Now it was his destiny that he survived. But just imagine had it been another child.He/She wouldn't have been able to survive.
I believe that killing a child is heinous and I don't support abortion. However in some special cases where the mother's life faces complications due to the pregnancy only then should abortion be opted for.

There is this really good movie.Mom At Sixteen. It's about a 16 year old single mother who tries to cope up with life and manage her child instead of aborting it.In the end though she gives up her baby for adoption, she maintains a good bond with the family which adopted the child and the a child knows who his real mom is.
