Count me in as one of the hopeless romantics! I was out of town for the last few days and just caught up on Thursday and Friday's episodes, and I too felt that the creators' choice here to depict a much more "steamy" sex scene than what we are used to directly mirrors Dev and Sona's emotional intimacy. I think it's also smart from a strategic standpoint because a. couples can grow in intimacy, and b. it keeps some novelty alive for a show about a (mostly) happily married couple.
I was so happy with the way they showed the build-up to Sona's final explosion. She struggled to tell Dev what the problem was in ways that kept subverting her actual feelings. Dev as usual, kept finding temporary solutions to these symptoms of Sona's core problem: she didn't like the dress/room/food? Change it. In all of this, he could only guess what was really bothering her and try to say what seemed most appropriate. All he had to go by was the question she had asked him about whether he would still love her if she didn't conceive, so he just kept answering it until Sona let him in more.
It was only with her outburst that she expressed what she was really feeling to Dev, finally allowing her pain to be the center of attention. What she wants is to feel like herself again, her confident, self-assured self, who is not defined by her ability or lack thereof to have kids, but every time she tries, one of Ishwari's ministrations, or Dev's own words of "comfort" drag her back down into the feeling that she is inadequate. Dev needed to hear this in so many words for the message to get across.
This is the difference between Ishwari and Sona. Ishwari makes sure her feelings are known and demands what she wants. That is why Dev appears so much more at her beck and call -- she constantly, and sometimes deliberately presents problems that he has to solve. Sona does the opposite, which is why it so often looks like Dev is neglectful of her.
But finally Sona has presented Dev with a problem... and I predict his intimate behaviour will be the first step in an attempt to make Sona feel beautiful, loved, and hot just as she is. He did it by accident when she came out for dinner, and I think that is why she was remembering their old moments while they were dancing. She was remembering what it felt like to be Sonakshi Bose, the woman who -- before the outside world, including Ishwari, entered their relationship -- was sound in the knowledge that she was adored by Dev Dixit, and felt deserving of that love.
The juicy part is that now, the solution to Ishwari's problem and the solution to Sona's are in direct conflict. That's where the real fun begins! 😉
