SONAKSHI's POV

"maa, happy diwali, happy diwali mamaji happy" and I stopped mid way as mamiji shooed me away

"han bas bas" after all these tines she still had that bitter undertone to herself... I straightened and maa just shook her head and I smiled... "aap log andar toh aaiye" I said letting them in...

"jiji aapne mujhe bataya kyu nahi ki yeh bangalan ghar pe hai" mamiji said not even trying to conceal the bitterness she possessed towards us!!

Before I could say anything mamaji raised his voice some good decibels and said "radha rani agar aaj tu iss ghar mein khadi hai toh woh sirf iss bacchi ki wajah se hai... issi ne mujhe tujhe ghar wapis lane ke liye kaha tha... Par shayad mujhe yeh nahi karna chahiye tha ... chal yahan se wapis ... "

just as we were about to stop them from doing anything like that ma said "bhabhi, bhaiya aap kya kr rahe hai... aaj diwali hai... saal ka sabse shubh din or uss din hum bhabhi ko ghar leker aae taki hum sabko dobara se ek parivaar bana sake... Bhabhi, kya farak padta hai agar humari bahuei bengali hai toh... Lekin jo humien chahiye tha, ki who apna ghar sambhale, apne farz ada karein, who sab toh voh bhakhubi nibha rahi hai... maine galti ki, sonakshi ko iss ghar ka hissa nahi maan pai.. apni bahu nahi maan pai!! Lekin nuksaan sirf mere dev ka hua, aur sonakshi ka hua!! Or phir jab galti ka ehsaas hua toh, pachtawa hua!! Mai bas aapko iss pachtawe ke bhoj se bacha rahi hun bhabhi... Bahut bhari ho jata hai iss ke sath chalna..."

Everybody was silent when mamiji suddenly stood up and said "bahu rani ab kya humein darwaze par hi rakna hai ya kuch nashta banwaya hai tumne..

I smiled at her and said "banwaya nahi mamiji.. apke aane ki khushi mein toh maine khud banaya hai..." Everybody laughed and walked towards the dining table... truly the festive spirit sunk in... now just one more task left!!

DEV's POV

I pulled sonakshi in the room and shut the door and she smiled... hugging her I said "yeh toh cheating hai sabne tumhe diwali wish ki meri toh baari nahi aai.."

"toh ab kr dijiye wish!!" she said smirking... I leaned in and there it was, the knock!! She laughed at my expression and went to get the door.. "ji keechu bahiya, sab aagaye niche?? aacha theek hai aap chaliye hum aate hai... "saying this she headed to the almirah and pulled out the bags that had the various trinklets she had picked for the family members... Gesturing me to come with her I picked up the bags and followed her to the living room

The room was full of squeals from nikki, as she watched sona hand out gifts to everybody... I just watched how my lovely wife had transformed my dull household, into a house full of happiness, laughter and most importantly, she had re filled my life with warmth.. I was lost in accessing the changes she had bought into my life when my cell phone vibrated and I checked the caller id VICKY!!!

FLASHBACK 2 MONTHS BACK

"tina yeh saari files Mahesh ko de do... or who jo maine R&D ka status update manga tha who kahan hai" I said in a monotonus voice... my life was dull revolving around in the same cycle again and again... the only speck of light in my day was the half hour of the silent drive I shared with my sunshine.. but that was far away, to reach to that part of my day I still had to endure 4 hours of office!! I was still rumanaging through my files puzzled over my accounting details when the door opened and sanju my peon walked in with my cup of coffee I took a sip and said "iss mein thodi sugar dalo sanju and give it to me" he walked out of my cabin and my eyes lay on the most beautiful picture that was stationed at my table it was a black and white photo of sonakshi that I had taken when we had gone for our honeymoon to paris!! I was still marveling at the beauty in the picture when my door opened and an out of breath Vicky entered my cabin... "kya hua Vicky... itna pareshann kyu hai???" I asked him handing him the glass of water kept in front of me..

"bahi who mujhe na samjh nahi aa raha mai kahan se shuru karun..." gulping the water in a go..

I waited till his breathing was back to normal and said "shuru se shuru kar"

Vicky took a deep breath and began his tale... "bhai who jo Elina hai na, mera dil aa gaya tha uss par jabse maine usse dekha tha, hum bhahut lade lekin phir maine usse dosti ki... pehle dosti sirf apni beezaati ka badla lene ke liye ki thi, lekin fir pata hi nahi chala kab pyaar ho gya... or ab mai uske bina nahi jeena chahta... maine mana mai lafanga tha.. lekin ussne mujhe badal dia... dev bhai, ab khali aap hi kuch kr sakte ho.. elina ki kal sham ki flight hai hume jo krna hai aaj hi krna hai..." he stopped to breath and refilled his glass of water

"kya matlab humein aaj hi krna hai.. kya krana hai... mujhe kuch samjh nahi aa raha... " I was totally out of my wits hearing his speech from a couple of seconds ago!!

He just stated " shaadi krni hai... meri elina se baat hui hai ussne kaha hai who sona ko mana..."

I interjected "bhabhi... sona bhabhi"

he looked at me and continued "han wahi sona bhabhi ko mana legi!!"

I sat down and said "jab tujhe apne ghar ke logon ki hi respect nahi hai toh tu uski kya respect krega!!"

he looked at me exasperated his phone rang... "elina han kya bola tujhe sona ne..." glances exchanged "sona bhabhi ne... sachi... aacha tum bhai ko yeh baat khud batao..."

his expressions changed from a desperate man looking for some relief to the man who found water in a desert taking the phone I put it to my ears and heard elina "dev jiju... sona maan gai hai..." After some sniffs she continued "ussne kaha hai ki aaj mashi or mesho rabindro sangeet ke liye ja rahe hai uss waqt hum dono woh jo ajmeri gate wala kali mandir hai na wahan shaadi ker le... "

I was silent for some time before I said "theek hai... mai milta hoon tum dono se sham ko"

as soon as I hung up Vicky was jumping on me "thank you bhai..."

"han han who sab theek hai lekin mama, mami unka kya?... rahoge kahan?... shaadi ko valid kaise proof kroge kabhi socha????... shaadi krna aasaan nahi hai.. or bhaag kar krna toh galat hai... soch Vicky kya khush rakh paoge ek dusre ko... shaadi is not only about physical relationships... its about mental compatibility as well... Nibha paoge rishta..." I asked him seriously...

"bhai mujhe nahi pata kya hoga aage... lekin jabse elina meri zindigi mein aai hai sab kuch badal gya hai.. mai ek aawara, lafantar se ek suljha hua aadmi bane laga... who kya kehte hai han sophisticated yeh sab kuch elina ne kia hai bhai... Mai nahi janta mai galat kr raha hoon ya sahi.. lekin itna zaroor janta hoon ki agar elina meri zindigi se chali gai toh, aapki tarah mai kabhi nahi ban paonga,..."

we sat silently accessing the situation when I said..."shimla mein mera ek associate hai... salary kum hogi but tum dono ko ek ghar mil jaega... mera diya hua letter usse de dena... Or tumhari shaadi kal tak legally register ho jaegi tab tak keep a low profile.. ghar ka address and baki sab mai tujhe raat tak mil jaega and tere liye ek gadi arrange kr donga jo tujhe yahn se shimla le jaegi... and baki wahn pahunch ke tujhe apni car bhi mil jaegi..."

He looked at me hope shining through his eyes and said "thank you bhai.. apne mujhe sab kuch de dia"

It was time for sundown and we were ascending the steps of the kali mandir... when I was greeted by my sister ria "hi bhai..."I just looked at her and nodded... she continued "bhai aapne jaisa bola tha na maine waisa hi kia hai..." followed by her was ayaan who was carrying big bulky packets in his hand seeing me he smiled a genuine smile and greeted me "hi bhai..." I smiled back and we headed into the temple premises... I was still taking in the temple surrounding when I saw my beloved wife walking out of the antechamber, they had probably asked for to get Elina ready for this super quick wedding.. to say she was mesmerizing would suit, even dressed simply in a plain, coffee brown silk saree with big golden jhumkas she managed to look absolutely breath taking, I was transfixed until Vicky brought me out of my state by pointing on my ringning cell phone...

"ria" sonakshi called making all of us turn around seeing her for the first time in months I could see how well ria was managing to hold back her tears, and

ayan just smiled and said in a warm tone"hello bhabhi"

the answering smile was dazzling "hello ayaan... ria mujhe na elina ki saree and all mein thoda help chahiye, last minute problem tu aa ke fix krne mein help kr degi"

"han bhabhi chalo" ria replied

they walked and I was following their gaze when I saw sonakshi's anklet sprawled across the floor like a snake!! I picked it up and followed them.. I waited outside the antechamber for the extra ladies to vacate so I could steal some gracious moments with my wife... ironically a husband wanting to steal some moments with his own wife!! Ria walked out first and elina was being led by a teary eyed sona who stopped dead in track watching me, ria understood my actions and quickly prompted "mai elina bhabhi ko leke jati hoon"

and to my utmost surprise without any further opposition from elina they walked out of earshot and I was left with my love!! She was looking down avoiding my gaze as if that would conceal the love she still had for me, a stray hair strand was obstructing my view so I picked it up and fixed it at the back of her ear.. this took her by surprise and she stiffened, holding out the anklet I said "you dropped this"

reluctantly she took it and in a soft voice said "thank you"

she had the tiny box that cointained vermillion, snatching it I quickly opened it and took a pinch and moved towards the head, the moment I had first done this swirled in my head making me feel proud how besides every other man in the world it was me, who had the pleasure of calling this beauty my wife!! Before I could place that in her head she stopped my hand and said "jab tak aap iska matab nahi samjhte mr dixit toh phir yeh krne ka kya fayda!!" her voice was calm, almost monotonous "ab aap mere raste se hat jaeye muhrat nikal raha hai" it was as if my body was on autopilot following a pre processor directive I made way for her and without further glance she headed towards the couple about to tie the knot.. I stood there trying to gather the million pieces of my broken heart, cursing my fate when ayaan called out "bhai shaadi start ho rahi hai"

The wedding was short and sweet, and now it was time to bid adieu to the newly wedded couple we were standing in the parking lot for the temple, and my eyes were only fixed on my sona who was giving some necessary supplies to elina and making Vicky promise to keep her sister safe!! I watched as she wiped her tears and they finally set out !! "bhai ab mai or ayaan bhi nikalte hai humein sach mein kissi ki wedding attend krni hai"

I smiled and hugged her "thanks nikki abhi kissi ko na batane keliye or meri help krne ke liye"

"kya bhai aap bhi na.. " smiling she moved towards sona and took her hands in hers and said "bhabhi I really wish ki aap ghar aa jao" sona just smiled and said nothing, ria left her waving when ayaan's car appered in the driveway and they left...

I walked towards sona and said "mai tumhe ghar drop kr deta hoon" I knew she was going to protest so I quickly added "please mujhe mana mat kro, pati hone ka farz toh mai nibha nahi paya but atleast ek dost ka farz toh nibhane do" she looked at me silently nodded a yes!!
