So first of all, I haven't written since the obsession that was IPKKND... And yet here I am watching a show so vastly different yet one that has forced me to pen (can we still say pen when it is actually type, I digress) my thoughts.
This is a different show, personally when someone says different to me I tend not to take it as a compliment, because one really needs to specify if it is good different or bad different...

This show is very good, on TV today everything is so mixed up and melodramatically. Like TV writers are not given the creative power to make the show they want, just when the show starts to explore complex feelings that is when everything hits the fan and the outcome becomes I just stop watching...

So why am I here and why am I writing this post about THIS PARTICULAR SHOW??
I found the whole concept refreshing like a breath of fresh air, yet it isn't, the same rich guy falls for a middle class girl the the problems that follow, so what is different? This show is no IPKKND... There is no burning volcano of passion that burns through the screen, yet it burns just as bright.
It is fascinating that this show decided to highlight the emotions of a mother son relationship, but truly what this show is doing is highlighting the burden that parents put on their children. The real problem behind such complex emotions is that parents do not have lives to lead themselves, their lives are intertwined with those of their children, so children like Dev and Sona (and myself) not only become responsible for our own successes but those of our parents. And 9 times out of 10 our parents wishes albeit very good for us enslave us to convention, instead of being the wind beneath our wings they become the chains on our feet. Ahh is is way too deep for a simple Bollywood show yet it's the heart of the entire argument. Because this is the case, I am not able to hold any ill feelings toward Ishwari, she has been brought up this way, and Dev has never set boundaries, even with Radha Rani, they tolerate her but don't give her an ultimatum so she continues on. There are so many bad practices that we continue in the name of tradition or respect for elders and all the crap, that isn't really helping us in fact it is holding us back.
And now to the real heroin! The person who wrote Sona's character, SLOW CLAP! This character is so beautiful, strong, wise and calm, but most importantly independent. There is a bond of family here that is missing in so many shows, families that keep secrets so that they can maintain peace (FYI that is the receipe for disaster) non of that here, flawed family yes, because it is real but a true family. Every day I think they are going to spoil it they are going to ruin the masterpiece they have so painfully made and everyday I am pleasantly surprised. So here is to a truly mature show.

That was my two cents

Thank you for writing such a nice post.. I have never followed any indian tv show before and i am absolutely addicted to this show.. I cant tell u what all i did for this show - created accounts in IF, twitter and instagram, wrote pages that could make 10 theses.
Sona is my favorite character and i really like the way cvs have maintained the integrity of this character. She made us proud many times and i am sure she will the best written female character indian tv would see in the near future.

All the three actors are just superb .. I wonder if they are really going thru those emotions or acting at times. I cried when they cried and smiled when they smiled. It is very close to my heart and i hope cvs keep doing great job:.
Again thank you for penning or typing it out :). Please keep writing

your 2cents opinion is 200% correct!! i totally agree with you. I started to watch this show KRPKAB from mid of May and i loved it so i went back to youtube and watched all the previous episodes in 1 week...i was literraly taken aback becoz lately or i must may be a decade or so there was no serial in Indian TV history which is very close to reality like our KRPKAB.
i was too doubting every week that it may get to high dramatic non sense kind of saga any time like other serials but surprisingly the makers are very intelligent confident. THey trust their work also trusted the viewers that we would encourage their work.

HATS of the entire TEAM of KRPKAB for trusting the audience and giving them what they want to see. now we can 200% trust on the makers that they won't ruin the script. we must also praise the channel SONY TV for trusting the cv's and the script!
👏👏👏

Well said. I too have been a huge IPKKND fan :)) three cheers to IPKKND fandom.

As you rightfully said KRPKAB story is an eye opener for many such families that exist and face the same burdens and dilemmas. In other words a socially relevant topic. Kudos to the makers and Sony.

On a lighter note, being a mom to a 12 year old boy, the first thing that crossed my mind watching the show was I don't want to become another Ishwari or end up raising a Dev Dixit.
