First of all Hi, I'm Piyali and I'm new to the forum but a pretty old fan of the show. Let's get one thing straight before I start the actual post, despite being a huge DevAkshian, I'm going to go against Dev here. If you want to casually defend him, it's fine with me. I'm always up for a light-hearted debate but if you feel this post will hurt your sentiments because it's against Dev, advice: just don't read it.
Ritwick has had no relationship with Sona prior to this. As some have pointed out, he hardly knows her. He doesn't have a strong connection with her nor does he love her. She is simply a friend and obviously his soon to be fiance. Yet today when his father questioned her, he was on her side. He fought for her against his father, mind you it was very softly done and perhaps halfheartedly but he did it. And this where I cannot help but compare him to Dev. Forget other days, let's just look yesterday. Indirectly but very obviously, Ishwarii questioned Sona's character. Her speech of Sonakshi crossing a boundary was out of line. It was purely insulting and hypocritical and Dev said nothing. The sad thing is that almost everyone was expecting that he'd remain silent. In my mind this raises the question that if Ritwick, a boy who barely knows Sona, can defend her against his father, then why can't Dev, the boy who supposedly loves, support her against his mother. He does not even support her in front of his Maami (and she says much worse)!! It is easy to blame Ishwarii in all of this and half of it is her fault as she has brought him up to treat her like god and has emotionally blackmailed him into a false mindset in which he feels the need to repay his "debts'" to her. But it cannot be denied that Dev is at fault here. His love is weak. You can blame Ritwick all you want and say he is no one to question Dev, but Ritwick succeeded where Dev failed.
I ship DevAkshi no doubt but Sona going back to Dev and his family would be a compromise of her self-respect. Ishwari's acceptance means zilch to me after everything. Radha Ranii I don't believe is capable of being civil. His sisters are there but they will be married off. Despite Mamji attempts he cannot shut Radha Rani up and Dev, I doubt will stand up for her. In reality, Ritwick would be a better choice, or at least mine if it was me. His father has accused her with proof, Ishwari just says whatever she wants. Ritwick is not perfect, he will have his own flaws but for now Sona and him are more compatible.
