Dev is a bully when he gets impulsive and has anger issues. This was mentioned by the characters themselves (his school teacher etc). Do you think he would have survived and protected his family after his dad passed away when he was 9 yrs old. He had to be a bully to live in this world. But we know he is soft as jelly inside once the outer facade is taken down. He doesnt have ego issues yo go and admit his mistake and will do evrythibg to pacify the person he hurt. That is dev dixit right from episode 1. That is his character and he has a back story to justify it.. So let us accept that is his character and respect it(as much as we dont want him to behave like that).. I would say judge a character if it is changed mid way of the show and is behavibg differently now.. But dev has been very consistent and his character has not changed till date.
Though i do not approve how he broke up with sona, icannot thibk of any other way this chracter would have behaved given that that is how cvs definied his chracter.

So he had to be bully because the world didn't treat him fair. Does that mean he will be a bully forever. Has life taught him nothing.

And unless there is Sona to control him he is forever going to be a bully and have anger issues all his life.

So then what's his character arc/growth even after falling in love?

Nothing, Nada, zilch. There is no arc. It's a straight line that was set when he was a kid. No maturity or wisdom.

A pretty grim picture isn't it.

@TM
Between black and white there are thousands of shades of grey.

If painting Dev a Saint and martyr in love is wrong, so is painting him a monster.

There is a difference between not being a very good person and being bad or wicked.

Secondly that makes him a co-dependant as without her he can't even lead a normal life. Why is it that we don't want Sona to be that way but are perfectly fine with Dev being the same??

Isn't that double standards??

I posted a big essay on how sona and devs sotuations are different and why sona is able to cope with the breakup butnot dev... I cant find that post so i will write a brief synopsis here

Before dev and sona fell in love,
Sona - mature, independent, confident and happy in life. She has a very good family and taught the difference between right and wrong

Dev - troubled childhood, only man in the family , weak, impulsive, anger issues, overall is just responsible but not happy in life and no friends to share troubles

When they fell in love

Sona - happy to find her love, still mature, stays with in limits

Dev - over the moon. Childish, extremely happy as he found not only a lover but a friend and philosopher and someone who filled the holes in his heart..

The. Breakup happened. Post breakup

Sona - the victim and insulted, heartbroken

Dev - guilty and angry that he had to choose, heartbroken, lost his best friend and guide

So it is very natural for dev to be extremely sad as he is the guilty one and he lost not just a lover but much much more..
Again i dont believe sona was reigning over him(too strong word). I wiuld say she was definitely explaining the povs and asking him to choose the path that he thinks is right. ShI never told him this is what you should do unlike his mother...

I do t belive dev lashing out tina was really that bad---tina kind of tried to step in to his personal matter . So he shooed her away..

Lashing out at sonas boss again this is dev dixit for you with or with out sona in his life. He cant take a word against ppl he cares about.

See that is what this show is about.. How devs character matures but you nedd to be patient. Falling in love doesnt change the person towards the world. Yes to some what but that is because the personis happy so he will be fair to the world that is human nature. This has nothing to do with sona . It is just about being in love and happy..
On the other hand when thibgs just start collapsing on you, you feel suffocated and feel that world is not being fair and you tend to lash out at people(again that is human nature)

Happy ppl tend to keep people around them happy
Miserable ppl tend to make thibgs unbearable for ppl who try to atep too close or when they fo somethibg that will pull wrong chord...

Trust me sona had nothing to do withhis behavior- it is all happiness and sadness

And so lashing at Tina was bad and he does it. But gets affronted when Sonas boss reprimands Sona. How is that not double standards and not similar to groping a strange girl but treat relatives with respect? It's just a matter of scale/extremity but the attitude is still the same?

If it's me then it's alright, if it's someone else then I won't stand for it.

You are just keeping me too busy now a days 😃
Just responded why this is partially justifiable in the postabove this. Sonas boss doest work for him and tina kinda stepped in to his personal space asking questions

I agree with you , when dev shouts at his employees bcoz he is frustrated, that's ok coz his character/situation is like that but sonakshi's boss shouting on her for not finishing her work on time is unacceptable to him...def looks like double standards here

I think we are confusing maturity with happiness here. Maturity is behaving wisely irrespective of your personal feelings. So if he only nice when happy but a bully when unhappy he is still a immature person.

So if even after falling in love if he hasn't matured a teeny bit when is he expected to, at 60 ?

Notice the subtle changes in Neha since she fell in love. Don't notice anything in Dev since he fell in love.

If you say that not all individuals are the same and mature at a different rates I don't have anything to say. However it leaves me with a may be he will, may be he won't.

One expects more from a male lead than a may be.

Wouldn't it have been so much better if we saw a more matured behavior from Dev, showing a glimpse of positive but permanent influence of Sona on him even when they are apart??

Arey yaar why are you confusing characters with forumwaale..
Did we bash sonas boss as he yelled at her -- no right?? That is his character
So dev goes and yells at sonas boss-- again we didnt say we like it or not like it.. It is again devs character. He has always been like this.. He cant hear anything bad abt ppl he care abt.. If you want to call it double standards towards another mean boss .. So be it.. I am sure everyperson pn earth has double standards - degree may vary.. Unless that person is a saint..That is human nature

So Dev is just another hot guy with money and typical attitude. Nothing special about him.

So much for all that jazz about a matured romance, when the male lead himself is a very immature individual even after falling in that so called matured love.

They will probably bring his char upto the speed on the last or penultimate episode. No journey, just warp from immature to mature in a couple of episodes.

Oh well..
