@ARCH and @bookworm - So I was thinking about this last night, today I woke up and read some comments on another post, which helped give a better perspective, re watched the episode and thought some more. And I have reached this conclusion-
The CVs have not really butchered Dev's character. In fact, they are staying true to his character. He has always been oblivious. He did not notice Sonakshi was in love with him when she roamed around looking like a love struck teenager, kept falling into his arms randomly, kept staring at him at all times. He also did not notice his own feelings until she appeared in his dreams. He once again did not notice that his mom was upset coz he wasn't revealing his relationship to her, even when she dropped some very obvious hints. And now, he is not going to notice Ishwari's discomfort until it's too late. It's gonna get dirty. He has always been a problem-solution kinda guy. When his mom needed the best nutritionist in town, he made sure she had no other option than accepting his job offer, problem? Mummy needs Dr Bose solution? Make sure Dr Bose is almost coerced into accepting your job offer. This is a pattern he follows throughout the show. He did the same thing with all of neha's problems as well. Be it the lehenga or flat or whatever else. After solving a problem, he tends to forget the problem even existed. A fact that Sonakshi has warned him about, time and again. So now that he thinks his mother has approved, according to him, problem is solved. He will not give a second thought to Ishwari's subtle hints or reactions. It will be Sonakshi who notices these things, once again. Am I making sense? This is the Dev Dixit they've always showed, it's just that we're getting annoyed with his naivety.

Coming to nikki and riya, I absolutely 100% agree that their reaction was absolutely disappointing. I hope they elaborate on this in the coming episodes.
The problem I have with the makers is the pace of the show. I don't know why they seem to rush the important things but spend unnecessary time on trivial things like the bedsheets. Everyone is aware that the main plot has started. Stop underlining it again and again!!
I need more reaction from the sisters, need a proper disclosure with the Bose family and their reactions, Dev meeting the Bose family and I NEED the leads to start behaving like two mature adults in a relationship who want each other and are attracted to each other and not like two teenagers who are mildly infactuated with each other. Plss work on this CVs.
Sorry for my long rant.

Unres.

Let us for a moment forget about episodes post 76 since makers typically struggle with the characters of the leads in the post confession phase..

Why did we like Dev? What did Sona and we see in him that we too fell in love with him. Speaking for myself, I saw the following -

Yes, he bulldozed Sona into joining the job because he cannot see beyond his mom. However in the same episode they show him approaching her with an apology and requesting her to reconsider

He damaged her mom's cake, yes Sona had to yell at him for it so we could see some chemistry on display but he compensated for it and how! He baby sat kids and joined their family party. He even turned up in the night in case she needed help (H!). He even told him mom - koi meri wajah se problem mein tha lekin ab sab theek hai...

He stood up for her with mami on the Titanic episode day, sent flowers to her but at the same time managed mami. He handled her the right way by distracting her with shopping talk...

He even tactfully managed his mom, mami and Sona when she threw the tray plus when Ish thought Sona made him wait for 5 hrs. He knew it would upset ish...

He broke her phone but was so sensitive to her hurt, remember his earnest plea to her to accept the phone?. He arranged for a pick up and drop after her accident even if he never realized he was in love. He was always so sensitive to her needs during Natasha track (introducing her as best nutritionist, calling her when she left restaurant etc.,)

It is not that he does not know what his sisters feel. He knew how Neha felt and did not want to marry before that, he was there for Riya and Nikki. Yes, as Sona said he wsa not always in tough with their hobbies but that did not make him insensitive.

And so on and so forth... The creatives continuously painted the picture of a hard working guy who had to grow up very early and in the climb up became abrasive at times. He however was a deeply sensitive guy who genuinely cared for other people's feelings..Sona in fact fell in love with this guy who could apologize to Ranveer because mami insulted him...Family first was his motto..

He knew he hurt Natasha and did not want to hurt her further by filing a case against her dad...

Coming back to the present...since Dev is a fictional character his behaviour is obviously not consistent, especially of late...However, it is important to look to the past to understand what the CV's vision for his character was and what we saw in him through Sona's eyes...

Despite all this, they can chose to shape his character the way they like citing the effects of love! The question I would ask is - which Dev does the audience find more attractive? The exuberant college lover or the complex business tycoon who underneath his reserved facade hides many layers..to show happiness they need not change reserved to exuberant. Quietly deeply happy will do the trick and perhaps be sexier!! More importantly it would be in line with the vision of the show presented to us in the promos and outstandingly delivered by the CVs in the first 100 episodes...

😃 selective access I guess or all only hugs are reserved for Dev-Sona...

hahaha, if nothing else, this show does keep us thinking...

The CVs have not really butchered Dev's character. In fact, they are staying true to his character. He has always been oblivious. He did not notice Sonakshi was in love with him when she roamed around looking like a love struck teenager, kept falling into his arms randomly, kept staring at him at all times. It will be Sonakshi who notices these things, once again. Am I making sense? This is the Dev Dixit they've always showed, it's just that we're getting annoyed with his naivety.

You are right on him being oblivious and nave many times. But there's one thought that bothers me -
Dev was oblivious regarding all things concerning him. Love was far from his thoughts. He never thought about his feelings/emotions/needs so to be aware of them even when they are literally happening around him would be improbable. He did notice that something is weird with Sonakshi after the accident but he wouldn't have ever thought that it could be love and that to for him!

Dev will do anything for family especially his mother no matter how reckless the process might me. Getting Sona fired was his character and feeling awkward and guilty when the same nutritionist brought his mother to the hospital (when Ishwari fainted in the street) was his sensitivity.
Wanting Sonakshi to be his mother's exclusive nutritionist was his focus on family but feeling guilty after overhearing her conversation with a patient (as she was about to pack her stuff) was sensitivity.

What I gathered about the Dev they were showing is that he is oblivious to anything that directly concerns him but is sensitive to the needs/concerns of people around him.

In the very first episode when Dev & Ishwari are in the car driving towards this new house. He knows she is emotional and she tries to hide it. The silently passing of the handkerchief while both are looking the other way is sensitivity & knowing your mother well.

What doesn't seem to be sitting well ATM is although we become blind when in love, Dev has suddenly become so openly focused on himself at the exclusion of any discomfort felt by anyone else. Even Sona was awkward but he was very sure of this shopping trip together. Precap: Noone knows what he plans to do and he is eager to pull Sona in.

A person can't simply go from being totally self-oblivious to self focused.

Teenagers behave this way - self-focused & oblivious to decorum not Dev
or maybe he is just in his happy bubble and as his mom held Sona's hand, he feels everything is hunky dory.

Coming to nikki and riya, I absolutely 100% agree that their reaction was absolutely disappointing. I hope they elaborate on this in the coming episodes.

@Bold: The one thing I had admired about the show is the subtle manner they could convey things and time & again proving that they acknowledge that the audience is intelligent. Now we have the chulla, bedsheet, halwa, photo and not sure what else to simply convey - Ishwari is insecure. Dev is reckless. Sona is trying to fit in.
Maybe it now needs as many attempts to make us understand 😃

and I second all that you outline as NEED ! 😃

WOW. You have explained everything so aptly, I was speechless for a moment. After reading your reply, and I had to read it twice for it to really sink in, I have understood one thing. Dev Dixit is the most complicated character I have ever come across. Correction, His mother is right up there with him. The mother and son duo have so many shades to them that I sometimes lose track and myself get confused when I try to analyse them.
I loved your point "A person can't go from being totally oblivious to self-focused." Its true, when Dev went to Ishwari to tell her about sonakshi, he was so nervous because he was asking something for himself for the very first time. I think he got carried away when his wish was granted.
His obsession to suddenly include Sonakshi in everything that happens in the Dixit house feels weird to me, as a viewer. The most disturbing line of the episode for me was "mein apni maa ko jaanta hun" I almost yelled, "Yeah, right!" So yes, I am again back to being confused about where Dev as a character is going, which happens a lot with me when it comes to him.
The makers are being lethargic in their approach towards showing Dev and Sonakshi's scenes. They know the viewers need atleast one Devakshi scene per episode, so they just insert any cute scene instead of coming up with some fresh scenarios. Yesterday's scene was good, no doubt, but the cuteness is getting old. The 3-4 episodes following the confession were tooo good. Every glance had the raw emotion that gave me chills. Whether it was Dev looking longingly at Sonakshi, or the song 'Tu mujhme mujhse zyada hai.' I don't know where the fire disappeared along the way😕
I can only hope they are reading this and that they listen to us.

Less use of other cast members, locations other than main set, freshness and look of leads. Mainly I find the male leads tiring of the romantic scenes because in real life they hardly identify with them. That need not have happened on this show if they continued to write scenes for them with fresh ideas. Once again I will cite KYY as an example...for 200 episodes, they tried to make every glance between the couple meaningful and exciting..the audience never felt.."oh that standard romantic expression is coming on"...

Sorry, for the overly long reply!

Someone mentioned that this being a limited episode show, they might not have much time now as they already used up more than 100 episodes and the main plot is just starting. But again, this seems doubtful as they have plenty time for chulla, bedsheet, photo, halwa - guess they are simply aiming for drama!

So sorry for adding to the confusion 😃
I attribute this to only one thing - Execution.
The makers have somewhere lost the link between what they started with and what they want to head into... If it's the same team, it's just a small memory loss but I really hope they just binge watch their own episodes. That should help 😃

Such beautiful scenes - All I totally love and today I miss these so much - looking at Dev standing there all alone amidst family!

Today I feel like allowing him his few moments of childishness & goofiness as they are absolutely short-lived in a family that's mourning his love!

Oh well !!

@ ARCH

You are so right. Even though we should accept by now that it is just the CVs playing their mind and round robin games to butcher one character to garner sympathy for the others, this was just too much for us to stomach...

Nothing can justify this lackluster reaction...Dev himself said it to Sona..how can she not accept my happiest decision? Little did he know that it was not just his mother but even his sisters...mamaji too infact felt it was absolutely ok to encourage Ish to immediately inform Dev of her dislike of Sona. Looks like the worthless Vicky can have his way but not Dev who made the cardinal sin of being over enthusiastic the first time he fell in love

I am sorry but I just totally can't relate and going by the forum responses, I can't find anyone who can either. Who are they making this show for?
The writers have definitely changed or if it's the same team, they are chasing their tail.

Natasha received an overwhelming reception with talks of love everywhere while the household's dear Sona di doesn't even get a smile. Oh wait! When there's no reaction for brother's happiness, what's to say about Sona!

I wanted to make a post but my heart is not in it. Guess just looking at Dev's face while his Mom made that stinging comment (precap) has simply made me speechless... !! There are no words to describe this episode and all that seems to be in store this week!

Ok! Bose Father - Daughter scene was well done - that's all the goodness I can muster today 😃
