Hi guys, so I am back with another two shot. This can be taken as a continuation of my previous OS: Just that easy, or you can consider it a story of its own, whichever you like J

For those of you who haven't read the OS, Dev and Sonakshi have been broken up for a while now, with Dev still refusing to speak to his mom, and Sonakshi is growing tired of it. So, she decides to move on.. But what lies in store for her on a rainy afternoon?

Sonakshi Bose could hear the soft sounds of the rain gently tapping on the roof as she lay in bed, trying to erase the memory of him from her mind. Sighing softly she glanced toward her alarm clock, its large red digits reading 5.05 pm. A mere 5 minutes had passed since she last checked but to her it seemed like an eternity. It had been days since she had last spoken with Dev, days since she had shared glances with him in the hallways of her hospital that he so often frequented these days, every time making up some or the other lame excuse, and even longer since she had felt his warm embrace and the heat that emanated from his lips when they pressed against hers. She had been patient initially, when he broke up. She held on to the hope that he just needed some time to convince his mother. He would come up to the hospital often, and for those few moments when they made small talk, she would forget about the huge hole in her heart. But it would resurface every time she asked him to talk to his mother, and his point blank refusal would shatter her heart once again. They were stuck in this rut for a while, when she decided she had had enough. Although she had tried moving on, tried throwing herself into her work that threatened to altogether consume her, and tried convincing herself that she was not in love with Dev, the more she realized how futile her attempts at trying really were. She felt herself hopelessly lost and hopelessly in love with a man that she knew at one time was hopelessly in love with her.

Trying hard to concentrate on the pitter-patter of the raindrops to lull herself to sleep, Sonakshi was gently startled by the sound of a soft knock on the door.

"Sona? Can I come in?"

Sonakshi half-smiled. She and Elena had chosen to visit Kolkata for a few days for some much needed rest and relaxation. Sonakshi knew that if she had any hope of ever moving on from Dev, she had to get out of that city, where every corner reminded her of him. So she let herself get convinced by Elena to spend some time at her cousin's house. Elena's parents had gone for a trip abroad and the two girls were alone at Elena's place. Elena had been a friend and a loyal companion throughout Sonakshi's entire relationship ordeal, planning interesting journeys for them to embark on each day during the week in an attempt to get Sonakshi's mind focused back on the good things in life. But with only 4 days of vacation remaining, Sonakshi started to worry that going back to work would be tougher than she was willing to admit.

"Yep. I am just lying here, trying not to think about it and trying to nap." Her voice was flat and monotone, with just a hint of sarcasm.

Elena rushed inside to find Sonakshi in the same clothes she was wearing the previous day. She forced a smile at her, hoping in some way to cheer her up. "Hey, I just made a batch of my fantastic special recipe chocolate cupcakes for you. You've gotta come downstairs and try a couple. I promise that they will make you feel better."

This time it was Sonakshi's turn to force a smile, "Thanks Elena. That was really sweet of you, but I'm just not hungry at all." She gave her a sad smile before turning away.

"Sona!" she warned. "You cant just lie around all day feeling sorry for yourself, refusing to eat, and refusing to take charge of your life. You need to let Dev Dixit know that you're not going to crawl into a hole and stop living just because he chose his mother, the woman who gave birth to him, who is his everything, over you. Its not fair, but its the truth. Gosh Sona, you are just too good for that, you know? It's so hard for me to see you like this."

Sonakshi could feel Elena's eyes burning into her back. After a few moments, Sonakshi rolled her eyes upward in pure exasperation, sat up and quipped, "Okay, where are those calorie laden cupcakes?"

Jumping up and down with excitement, Elena extended her hand toward Sonakshi, pulling her off the bed and toward the door.

Sonakshi smiled. There was something so innocent and pure about Elena's excitement, about her friendship. For a moment, Dev Dixit was the furthest thing from her mind.

Three cupcakes and an hour long Elena counselling session later, Sonakshi trudged back into her room, resolving to finally take a shower and change her clothes. Letting down a sigh of defeat, she strolled barefoot to her closet, opening the door and fumbling around for the string that controlled the overhead light. Giving it a good yank, light spilled out revealing the closet's contents. Sonakshi never really realized, until now, just how many clothes she owned. As she bent over to rummage through the contents of a bag that had yet to be unpacked from her cross-country move, she heard a soft voice call out.

" I think I might have what you're searching for."

Startled, Sonakshi whirled around so quickly that she practically fell right into Dev Dixit's arms. Wearing a khaki sweater over a button down oxford and his perfect-fitting jeans, he almost took Sonakshi's breath away. She noticed he still had some raindrops in his dark, wavy hair.

"Woah, easy killer." Dev said gently with his soft laugh and wistful smile on his face as he tucked a stray strand of Sonakshi's brown hair behind her ear.

"Dev, wha-who- what are you doing here? How did you get in?" Sonakshi felt speechless and caught off guard, taking a few steps back to regain her balance and her composure. In true Dev fashion, he quickly narrowed the gap that threatened to divide them by taking two steps toward her.

" I told Elena I'd eat two of her cupcakes. Do I have frosting on my face?" Smiling, he turned his face to the left and then to the right as if he was truly asking Sonakshi to inspect his face for any leftover evidence that he had indulged in Elena's confections.

Not willing to indulge him in the least, Sonakshi pushed past him until she reached her window. Her back now turned toward him, she didn't see the look of disappointment spread across his soft features when she broke contact with him.

"What are you doing here?" she repeated. This time she could not keep her emotions from creeping into her voice. She hated the fact that she felt weak whenever he was around. She wanted him to think she was strong, that she had her emotions in check, and that she wasn't going to waver just because he decided to show up.

"I - I want, I need to talk to you, Sonakshi" he replied in an almost pleading tone. He took two steps forward, once again trying to eliminate the distance between them.

"What could you possibly need to talk about? You made your choice, Dev. You decided not to fight for us. I put my heart out there, made myself vulnerable, and I'm just about all talked out." She spun around to face him and continued. " I don't want to hear about how important your mother is to you. I know that. I have a mother too. I did not ask you to leave your mother for me. All I needed was you to atleast try to figure out why she isn't happy with our alliance, what is it that I can do, that we can do to make it better for her, to get her to warm up to me. But you don't even want to try to understand either of us. You started becoming too comfortable. With me always being there, and I cant do it anymore Dev. I can't keep giving all the pieces of me away, I won't have anything left." By this time, tears were streaming down her face.

A very concerned and concentrated look was set on Dev's face as she spoke. With every word, he looked more and more heartbroken. It killed him to see her like this, and to know that he was responsible for her being in this state, made him loath himself. He daringly took two more steps towards her, wanting more than ever just to hold her and tell her that things were going to be okay. He was restrained only by the look in her eyes that told him to come no further.

Putting her hands up in an attempt to stop his advances, she replied, "Please. Just tell me what you want from me and leave. You and I both know that you shouldn't even be here right now." Tears continued to stream down her face, but Sonakshi was quickly regaining her composure. "I mean, this is a time for me to heal, and..."

Dev interrupted her rambling. "I spoke to Maa, Sonakshi."

Sonakshi, completely unaware of what he just said, continued. "... And I just want to be alone right now, okay? So if you could please... wait.. what did you just say?"

Moving closer to her, his voice barely above a whisper, Dev said, "I think you heard me the first time. I spoke to Maa, Sona. I sat and asked her what was it that was troubling her. Remember I once told you, I am a difficult man to deal with.."

Sonakshi instantly felt a pang of guilt. He'd given her a fair warning, it wasn't going to be a easy ride with him. She remembered she had promised him, she would never leave him, even when he left her. She had assured him that she could take whatever problems befell them, all she wanted was him. But now, she felt weak. Weak and tired and exhausted.

On seeing Sonakshi's crestfallen expression, Dev hastily continued " I didn't mean it like that. I am a difficult man to be with Sonakshi, but I get that from my mother. She is also a difficult woman to understand. I know she seems cold and distant now, but she is herself confused as to why she feels the way she does. I tried to make her understand that I need you both equally. I cant lie to you sonakshi, she is the most important woman of my life, but you share her spot. I can't imagine living without either of you. I can't promise you that everything is going to be hunky dory right away. But I do promise you this, I will never stop trying. I will fight for us. I won't go against my mother's wishes but I will do everything in my power to convince her. To truly make her understand our love, in a way that she agrees to accept you as her daughter in law, not for my happiness, but for her own."

"I just wanted you to know that" He turned toward the door as if to leave but changed his mind when Sonakshi moved to sit on the edge of her bed, her small body trembling and the tears still streaming. He immediately felt a sharp pang of guilt for all the sadness and misery he had caused her and suddenly, he wanted to be nowhere but here... with her.

End of part 1

Author's note : So what do you think Sonakshi will do now? Sorry if the end seems a bit abrupt. This was initially supposed to be a one shot but it got too long so I decided to turn it into a two shot. Will be posting part 2 soon.

Pls Pls tell me what you think?

You are too good with angsty ones.👏 My heart is still heavy. Loved it. If I can't even read it how will I be able to see if this is how the separation is shown.💔

Why do you have to ask? It is amazing! Like everytime. I've always wanted Sona to be off to Kolkata when they'd break up. Really, were we some twin sisters in past life? You READ my mind! And this was one beautiful part. The unertainity, the helplessness all were written excellently. Waiting for the next part. :)

Good Luck!
