Chapter 4
10 long years... He's finally back in his country after 10 long years. It felt like nothing has changed at all. Same crowd, same traffic, same pollution...and the rain! Taking a deep breath, he smelt the raw earth and his ears perked at the sound of never ending water droplets that poured onto the black paved road...His mind went back to refreshing the countless memories he had in the rain with...her!
Jumping in her short pink frock that covered only till her knees, she skipped her way towards the main door of the mansion.
"AB! Hurry up. The rain is gonna stop!" , she screamed looking upstairs, towards Dev's room wondering what is taking him forever to come out.
"Hold on, you impatient girl! I'm just looking for the umbrellas. Pretty sure you forgot to take them with you" came his quick reply, to which Sonakshi sighed and touched her forehead with her tiny palm of her chubby hand, shaking her head, wondering when some sense will hit his so called genius brain which only happens to work with school tasks and not in such "extracurricular activities".
As he came running down the stairs, taking in bountiful air gasping, he handed one of the two umbrellas to her. "Let's go!"
As they both ran across the road with their umbrellas over their head, Sonakshi looked at Dev with an ear to ear grin that said nothing but I'm going to do something crazy and you'll have to bear it, darling' look.
Widening his eyes, he started backing away. "Sonakshi... NO!.. no... no way..n.."
And his umbrella flew away with the merciless wind that kept blowing. Dev stood there, all drenched from head to toe within a few seconds due the the heavy raining.
Laughing her heart out, she clapped her hands and squealed in excitement, "this is how you enjoy rain! I mean.. who brings umbrella with them when it rains so beautifully?!"
"Well for your kind information, people with brain do! And if you didn't know, umbrellas were made so people can refrain from getting wet." Came his reply.
Rolling her eyes, she replied, "wonder which fool invented it. Such a waste of money and energy, honestly!"
Sighing, he gave up at the obvious fact that there's no point in arguing with her.
"so what's the plan, now that we are all drenched?", he asked.
"KULFI!", holding his fingers with her chubby hand that could only fit 1 of his fingers, she dragged her towards the kulfi-wala.
"uncle, 6 mango and 1 pistachio kulfi please!", Sonakshi ordered with a huge grin on her face.
Widening his eyes, he stopped her. "no no. I will have only one. No need to order so many."
"yeah so you will have one. The rest of it is mine!"
"whaaa? You.. you're gonna eat all the five kulfis?"
"too less, isn't it?" turning towards the kulfi wala, she changed her ordered, "Okay uncle, make it 7." Turning back to dev who just stared at her with his mouth agape, she asked, "what? "
Coming out of his thoughts, he frowned, concerned "you're gonna have 6 kulfis sonakshi? Are you crazy? You'll catch cold. Please... we.. we will have it some other da. At least when it's not raining and we're not all wet. It's easier to catch cold this way bose! Maa will be very angry if she gets to know about it."
"God AB you think too far. Here, have it"
Saying she had her mango kulfi one by one, while dev stared at her concerned.
Suddenly, he closed his eyes shut as he felt a cold splash on his face. As he heard her laugh, he slowly opened his eyes to see his face smeared with vanilla ice-cream that she threw at him.
Taking dangerously slow step, he walked towards her. "very well...you dug your own grave. Now suffer the consequence!" and with that he started running after her, chasing her as she screamed and ran for her life, like a prey running away from its predator.
Pressing the pad of his thumb on his forehead to alleviate the pounding headache, he walked out of the Airport, with one hand of his pulling the hand luggage, while the other was placed firmly on his mother, Ishwari's shoulder. While Ria and Nikki jumped their way towards the exit, neha followed them quickly, keeping a keen eye that they're safe.
Pocketing out his cell phone, he dialed a number.
With a cold voice, he started, "All ready? Yeah just got here... that's none of your business,! I asked Tina to email all the required information to you. Very well . I want absolutely no mistake and Adi, I want it completed as soon as possible."
With that he cut the call. turning towards her mother who stared at him concerned for the reasons unknown to him, he asked, "Whaat?"
"Why are you like this Dev? You talk to us normally. And you talk to your employees as if you will eat them up any moment! They must be so uncomfortable, beta.", Ishwari said.
"stop it maa. It's nothing like that. Let's go. We're getting late. I need to head to office soon as well"
Sighing, she gave up, knowing there's no point in arguing with her son.
As they stopped at a nearby shop for Ishwari who wanted to buy something, despite of the countless number of times of dev saying that he can ask the driver to get it for her, she denied, wanting to buy the precious gift for her sister in law on her own. Dev waited in a the car as she headed towards the shop with Neha.
As he was about to check his phone, He realized something amiss, a flash of white ensemble fleeting through his memory. Instantly, he snapped in the direction and noted a lady in white shinning kurti, almost on the verge of fainting, struggling to cross the street. As his feet forwarded towards her swiftly but cautiously, noting the running vehicle that's all but breaking the signals as if on a race to win a race, he was about to ask her if she was okay when her knees gave up and was about to collapse. One of His strong arms instantly grabbed her waist, while the other went at the small of her back, preventing her from hitting the ground.
His eyes looked down at her pale face while her eyes that were still half open gave him chills down his spine. Too familiar to ignore!
He noticed her lips moving but her voice was barely audible.
"Ma'am are you okay?", he asked concerned as he patted her cheeks softly.
Her eyes closed slowly, giving up.
"Excuse me! hello! Can someone call the ambulance please!"
Flaring his nostrils as he saw people walking by with the I don't give a damn!' attitude and totally ignoring the incident as if nothing happened, Dev quickly scooped her in his arms as he carried her towards his car. Placing her in the back seat, he dialed the doctor's .
"In the dixit mansion .. NOW!" , was his stern order.
As he asked the driver to drive them to the mansion, Ishwari wondered why dev was taking her home when the hospital was only 10 minutes away- A fact that dev ignored royally.
Truth be spoken, he didn't even realize that he was taking her home. His first and natural instinct when he saw her almost fainting in his arms was to take her home, and see the family doctor. Just her one glance at him was that all but spoke helplessness was enough to strike a special chord of protectiveness in him that he instantly decided to take her home, just like he would have done if any of his family members fell sick.

"Just a heat stroke. Nothing to be concerned about. Just make sure she's always hydrated and is having proper food. Her blood pressure is actually quite low which is not a good sign."
Nodding, he got the prescription, and went outside to see the doctor off.

As she slowly opened her eyes to see, the only person she would ever want to see him the rest of her life, she was sure she was this is another dream of hers that she gets quite often. He was staring down, too engrossed in his phone. his freshly trimmed hair touching his forehead, His big eyelashes almost touching the part under his eyes, his day old stubble and his sharp pointy nose...
So handsome
Her eyes had an unknown glim as she kept staring at him without a single blink of her eye.
Dev..
As he moved his legs to put it across his other one, She gasped and almost jumped out of the bed as realization dawned upon her. Clasping her hand on her mouth, she sat there shell shocked as the recent incident played at the back of her head.
How he caught her...
How he held her by her waist...
How he patted her on the cheek...
Seeing her almost jerk off the bed, he swiftly moved and sat beside her.
Concerned, he asked, "Are you okay?"
She just stared at her, completely speechless. Does he know? Did... did he recognize her?
"Are you feeling alright?" dev asked again.
Snapping out her thoguhts, she stammered, "I...I was.. wo...actually..."
Her voice... so soft... so... serene...why does it give him this unique feeling?
As she acknowledged her surroundings, realizing she's in dev's room, she asked the obvious, "how.. how did I get here? Why.. why ddid you bring me here?"
"You fainted in the middle of the road. My car stopped nearby and I noticed you struggling to cross the road. I instantly went towards you and you fainted. So I brought you home. Our family doctor just did the check up. Nothing too concerning. You just got a heat stroke. But your blood pressure was very low. You have to take care."
Everything just went by her ears. All she did was stare at him, hearing his voice, after 10 long years. She couldn't believe it was actually him, sitting infront of her and talking to her. is it really him? Her Mr. AB? Her.. Dev? Or is she hallucinating... yet once again?, she wondered.
Her web of thoughts was however broken by a very high pitched voice, that she's used to hearing 24/7.
"What the hell are you doing here? That too on Dev's bed? Do I have to give you a reminder of the position you hold in this house?!"
Her feet sprinted towards the bed and grasped her arms tightly as she almost dragged her out of bed when she felt a hand stopping her. turning he saw dev frowining at her, as if quite shocked at such behavior from a person he expected quite full of virtues.
"Dev beta, why are you stopping me? you don't know anything. She works here... in our mansion. She's the servant of this mansion. This is not her place to take rest, beta!", came the explanation from Radha.
"Doesn't matter mami! She fainted and is extremely weak to do any kind of movement. Doctor asked for complete bed rest and proper dieting.", came Dev's stern reply.
"But beta..."
"Mami... Please. End of conversation. She's too weak to do anything. Let her rest."
Leaving no scope to argue further, Radha threw a fiery glance at Sonakshi and left the room.

My apologies for not being able to update yesterday. I wasn't even sure about tonight and was struggling to finish the chapter but literally pushed myself to complete it... so here i am...awake till 5:15 in the morning, updating chapter 4 of Hidden😆. Yeah I thought I should make it up to you guys somehow. Yeah, you're welcome😳
It took awhile for me to complete this chapter, because it needed a lot of attention for Dev's character, since it's the first time his character (the 25 years old dev, not the 12-15 years old😆) came into light in my SS, I had to make sure, I give you guys a fair idea of his traits. Plus, I had to go back and forth between past and present and I was trying to not mess up with the characters, keep it straight and clean and not confuse you guys lol.
Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed that I was successful at doing my job. Really hope you liked the chapter. IF you did, even a bit, please hit the like button and it's my humble request that you guys drop a comment to give me any kind of feedback. if you have time, Please, do tell me what part you liked the best, or disliked, or any particular scene you would wish to see in this SS. If it doesn't change the main concept of the story and is within my capability to fit in, I promise I will be including it in the SS.
