Chapter 14:
During the entire flight she just sat and fumed while Dev was busy working on his laptop ignoring her completely. He did not even bother to look at her thus making her more and more irritated.
Sona...you just have to stop thinking about this guy now. Iss workaholic ki to koi life hai nahi...aa gaya meri trip bhi barbad karne' she muttered to herself.
In order to focus on something else she busied herself in the magazines. But alas..her bad luck was extremely loyal to her today as well. The air hostesses were busy paying extra attention to Mr. Dixit that day and Sonakshi could not help but notice it. Finally she spoke up.
"Tumhe kya har koi se smile karke baat karne ki aadat hai?"
"Kya matlab?" Dev glanced at her.
"Three airhostess has come to ask if you are comfortable and it has not even been an hour yet"She fumed.
Dev laughed.
"Wo kya hai naa mera charm hi kuch aisa hai"
"Accha...mujhe to kabhi nahi dikha tumhara ye charm"Sona was not the one to back off this easily.
"Obviously...you are my colleague afterall...tumse to bas professional relation hai"Dev explained emphasizing a little too much on the word professional'.
"Oh...I see...to ye airhostess ke sath personal relations hain aapke?"There was hint of sarcasm in her tone.
"You never know" Dev shrugged.
She felt like wringing his neck!
Maybe her thoughts were evident on her face because Dev could not help but comment.
"Arey...ab kya ho gaya?Maine to tumhe kuch kaha bhi nahi hai fir bhi gussa kar rahi ho"
"Don't try to act smart Dev..mujhe tumhare saare plans samajh aa rahe hain "Sona answered quietly.
Dev closed his laptop finally and giving innocent looks muttered:
"I have no idea what you are saying..infact main try bhi nahi karunga samajhne ki.."
"Accha..so this was not your plan to accompany me to Seattle without even letting me know until last minute?"She asked it finally.
"Everybody knew that I will be accompanying you Sonakshi...koi secret nahi thi ye baat..and it's my company ..I am expected to be there."Dev was prepared ..as usual.
He was right, she realized. Now she felt even more stupid.
"And why will I plan all this? I really want to hear what you think now" He probed.
"I don't know. You get sadistic pleasure out of troubling me"She murmured.
"I have no such intentions...I am busy enough to indulge in such childish acts"Dev answered patiently.
"Your presence alone is sufficient to make me miserable"Sonakshi replied.
"Oh...so I do have some effect on you?"He asked quizzically.
That made her speechless. She hid behind the magazine.
Dev stared at that upside down magazine for few seconds. He was having a time of his life ! Afterall not everyday one gets an opportunity to make Sonakshi this flustered.
"Two days in Seattle...I will give you the list" He added.
"List of?"Sona was confused.
"Magazines...tumhe chahiye honge naa parhne ke liye?" Dev smiled.
She had no reply to it so she choosed to ignore him for the rest of the journey.
Sona was so much in hurry to leave New York that she overlooked an important fact: Seattle is notorious for its frequent rainfall. And so when they arrived at that city they were greeted by the torrential downpour which only dampened her previously spoilt mood.
Once they reached the hotel Sonakshi thought of grabbing her room keys and shutting herself inside the room for the entire day. Everyone in the hotel were giving her a strange look. Dev was busy with his phone calls so he asked her to go ahead and make herself comfortable.
"Take some rest..and maybe after an hour meet me for lunch?" He asked and she nodded.
The whole day went by quickly. It rained and rained and rained. This trip was nothing like whatever she had imagined and the only person she knew was busy with his phone.
"Dev...how much do you have to talk?Tommorow we have that conference..atleast take a break today"She asked once he joined her.
"Sorry dear...was talking to some stakeholders..today will be a bit hectic for me"
Did he just call me dear?' She wondered. Well you guys have already kissed...ye dear to bahut choti baat hai' Her mind replied.
Damn!! Is he wondering that something more can happen in this trip? God..i will kill him if he tries anything'
Yeah right!!!The way you killed him by responding to his kiss..both the time!!?'
"Sona...are you talking to yourself?" Dev was back.
"I am not your Sona or dear or anything" She replied angriliy.."I am going to my room...don't you dare disturb me now"
"Yeah...run away from me whenever possible" He muttered.
"Excuse me?"
"Nothing" Dev dismissed.
If looks could kill our poor Mr. Dixit would have been dead by Sona's angry glances right then.
Sona tried not to think much about him. Rest of the day went by quickly. She was busy watching some English movie when her mobile phone rang. It was Ishwari Aunty's call.
"Beta...Dev hai kya wahan? Wo phone nahi receive kar raha" She asked worriedly.
"Nahi Auntyji...main apne room main hoon...I will just check on him if you want"
She rushed to his room and knocked. Nobody answered the door. The bell boy told her that Mr. Dixit left few hours back. This worried her but she was helpless. Finally she decided to wait for him.
After some time she checked her watch...it was 12:30 AM...and there was no sign of Dev. He was not even receiving her calls.
Damn you Dixit!' She thought. Somehow out of nowhere she remembered the time when Dev was going outside Delhi to write his exams all those years back.
"Dev you are extremely careless when it comes to yourself"
"And what is that supposed to mean?"
"Tum apna bilkul bhi khayal nahi rakhte...you don't even reply to the messages on time if you go out"
"Sona...when I am not responding that means I am busy ..you know that very well...jab bhi tumhare missed calls or msgs dekhunga will reply you"
"And tab tak humari halat ho jaati hai uska kya?"
"Tum and Maa ..dono ekdum ek jaise behave karte ho at times"
"I don't care. Promise me you will keep informing us about your whereabouts "
"Fine!!! I promise...happy now? But iske badle mujhe kya milega?"
"Waah...you act like mujh par ehsaan kar diya promise kar ke"Sona laughed.
Suddenly the door opened. The object of her concern was standing there ..busy talking on phone.
He just waved at her and started to go towards his room.
Sonakshi knew she had no right ...yet her temper snapped.
"Mr. Dev Dixit!!!!! You and I need to talk"She called from behind.
"What?" Dev was confused.
"Your room or mine?" her next question
"What?"repeated Dev.
