Hello people,
Another great episode. As Neets said in her post, I'm glad they toned down the romance a bit today and let other things come in to focus. That balance needs to be maintained because let's face it, this show is more than a love story and that's what sets it apart.
Dev and Sona's silent exchanges infront of Ishwari were amusing on their own but they also got me thinking a bit about the main conflict in this show. I'll get to that in a bit. I found it funny how Dev actually held onto the carrot while heading out. Reminded me of the million times he has left halfway through breakfast and rushed to work. That's a very special little carrot for Dev though. đ
Nikki was so sweet on finding out about Sona's break-up'. Even Sona felt a combination of amusement and affection for the way Nikki was concerned for her. It lasted two seconds though... Sharp girl that she is, she immediately asks why is she so happy these days when she has just broken up. Normally those kinds of things leave you devastated you know? đ
Sona grumbling about Dev saying one thing and doing the opposite - đ Can't blame her either.
It's so sweet how these two alternate between depth and intensity and all things romantic to acting like two lost kids who don't have the slightest clue about love or relationships. This bit of their conversation in the car was so so adorable,
"Ab main kya ghussa bhi nai karsakti? Mujhe kya pata tha ke pyar aisa hota hai?"
"Aap mujhse kya pooch rai hai, mujhe kya pata? Mujhe tou pyar ke baare mein jitna bhi pata hai woh aapse hi pata hai."
Their expressions here... You gotta appreciate how Shaheer and Erica bring forth such varying shades in Dev-Sona's relationship with equal conviction. Dev's statement also brings your attention towards the fact that as intense and romantic our lover is, Sona is ultimately his guiding light. Whatever knowledge or understanding he has come to have about love is through Sona and in that sense they have a long road ahead of them. It's great though. I'd really like to see these two grow and explore their relationship together, discover more about each other and themselves along the way and ultimately fall more and more in love. Can that possibly happen on Indian TV? Does it? đ
Dev stalking Sona on the web didn't surprise me in the least. He has always been like this and I was immediately reminded of all the times he has called Tina up to research on some xyz person and send him all their details. The only difference here perhaps is that this time he endeavored to carry out the task himself. I suppose even Tina would have a thing or two to say if she were asked to go through Dr. Bose's social media profiles. đ I love that little detail they showcased today about Dev being too busy in going through Sona's old status updates/tweet etc. to ignore her text messages to him. Dev has always been methodical about everything he does; he is such a businessman that way. He knows how to deal with people in his line of work, we have seen how he does just enough research to know how to impress them or how to get rid of them. Even when he was first introduced to Sonakshi, he ran a background check there and then. Now as well, you see how he employs some of the same methods and in his eagerness to to find out every little detail of her life, he fails to understand the importance of the present moment. Naturally Sona steps in to guide his hand, both literally and figuratively, and helps him understand that to know a person all you have to do is spend time with them, talk to them and just be with them. Relationships don't operate under the same rules as business. Business requires a certain detachment. Relationships need companionship and conversation. You have to really give yourself on an emotional level. Sona loves the fact that Dev wants to know so much about her and so do I. What Dev needs to understand however is that he won't know her heart through a Facebook profile. He'll know it by simply spending every day with her. Even them sitting down and talking late into night as she makes her way through all those questions he had would be enough :)
I loved the little skip in Sona's step as she came down the stairs to sit with her family. They really don't miss a detail. Poor Elena and Dada. They were there for Sona everyday, worrying constantly for her and yet she deprived them of this bit of happy news! Bohat nainsafi hai baba đ Their scenes are so naturally sweet and full of warmth BTW. Love the natural camaraderie between them.
Coming to the scene between Dev and his family. I love how everything Sona tells Dev stays permanently with him. The ease with which he gave Nikki permission over the trip was such a great throwback to the time Nikki wanted to go for a sleepover with her friends. Everything he said to Ishwari about letting Nikki grow up and experience new things echoed so strongly of the advice he had gotten from Sona on the subject.
Ishwari feeling so happy and at peace over Dev's happiness was very touching. I felt bad for her today. You might label her as an overly-possessive mother but she does love her son with all her heart and really does seem to want what's best for him. The way they keep emphasizing on Ishwari's continued assertions that Dev needs to live for himself a bit really makes you wonder why she will react negatively to Dev and Sona's relationship. My current theory is that we aren't just dealing with her fear of losing Dev once he gets married. I think how Dev is keeping her in the dark about all of this will also be a contributing factor to her disapproval. I understand Dev ofcourse... when you experience happiness and love like this for the first time then some part of you gets selfish with it. You just want to revel in the feeling on your own for a while and that's probably why Dev is being so secretive. He loves the idea that no one else is privy to what he has with Sona. It's exciting and romantic and new and he wants it stay that way for now. He's just so happy with how things are you know? Besides his family isn't exactly like Sona's. They would most definitely not approve, especially since he chose to break up with Natasha to be with Sona - especially a particular gharib ki beti. You can't blame Dev for wanting to escape the inevitable drama for as long as he can.
But but but... It is still going to hurt Ishwari very badly. Especially if she finds out about their relationship accidentally without them telling her first. It's a betrayal of sorts. Ishwari and Dev are one unit in a way. Today as well, if you noticed, she fully expected Dev to agree with her about Nikki's trip because that is how it has always been. For Dev to keep something so huge from her is going to shake Ishwari up and she is naturally going to question if Sona is taking her son away from her. Dev isn't even aware how his Mother feels about him getting married one day, he is oblivious to her insecurities to some extent so he doesn't realize the damage he is going to cause by keeping all this from his Mother. Remember that Dev and Ishwari's bond isn't a normal one. Sometimes he is the parent and she is the child, sometimes vice versa. Then he also sees her as his God and to top it all there is a deep friendship and understanding between them. Dev is assuming that Ishwari would just be happy when he finally tells her but it's not as simple as that. I felt a little sad for Dev too.. The conviction he has that Ishwari will always support his decisions is so absolute. It's going to shake Dev up when the opposite happens. It's necessary ofcourse.. He needs to see that his Mother is really just a normal human being with her own set of flaws and insecurities. All in all, it's such a complex yet fascinating web of relationships in this show. Before Sona, the Dixits had found a kind of routine in their dysfunctional lives. I hope to see Ishwari understand that sometimes change is good. It's healthy and it helps you heal. Everything won't be perfect immediately but Sona entering their lives is ultimately for the better and while her son falling in love does change everything, it will not break what she has with Dev, only strengthen it.
