Dev abruptly turned away from his wardrobe to the door and then heaved a sigh of relief when he saw it was Sonakshi who had entered his room. She then locked the room's door in case anyone decided to walk in on them.
"Ms. Sonakshi Bose you seem to have developed a bit off bad habit to walk in on me shirtless. You do this on purpose, don't you?" Dev teased as he removed a few more of his shirts and placed them on his bed.
"What do you think?" Sona asked as she noticed the mess he had created.
"Well I think you quite enjoy watching me without my shirt." He teased further as he encircled his arms around her petite waist and pulled her to him.
"You're absolutely right." She told him cheekily and he gave her his dazzling smile in return.
"Need help?" She asked him eyeing all the clothes on his bed.
"Yes please." He said as he sighed defeatedly and let her take over.
"Hmmm. This one looks good." She muttered to herself as she picked up a shirt with a lighter shade of pink. She held it against him and scrutinized him for a minute before nodding her head.
"Pink?" He asked unsure with her choice.
"This is the lightest shade of pink Dev. And I think you should really not argue with me on this matter when you were the one who wore an orange shirt just because I told you its my favourite." Sonakshi reasoned as she handed him the shirt.
"Hey!!" He said offended.
"I thought you said I looked good in Orange."
"You do look good. You seriously look... like yummy. Now wear this will you." She ordered him in a school teacher like voice which he had to obey. He quietly wore the shirt Sona had chosen after which she helped with the blazer.
"I can't believe I'm actually doing this. Before I never thought twice about what I wore or how I looked. But now it's like I can't even choose a tie without your nod of approval." Dev told her as if it was unbelievable. Sonakshi smiled as she righted his lapels.
"That's what love is Mr. Aubodhro." Sona quipped.
"Yeah. Well talking of love do you think Amit's right for Riya?" Dev muttered a little uncomfortable approaching the topic. This was the new buzz in the Dixit house, after Riya had confessed she was dating someone from work. Amit, the guy Riya loved worked in finance and management of ishwari communications. According to Dev the guy did well for himself and was from a nice family. Yet Dev was being a hesitant, over protective brother.
"They both love each other and he can keep her happy. And you told me that he earns well and has a good background. And since he's your employ he's not a stranger to you and that assures you're giving your sister in safe hands. Rest time will tell." Sonakshi explained as she did his tie.
"Ya. But he was only my employ then. But now he'll be family. That's fairly a big deal isn't it? And what if he's only pretending to act good to impress me so that later he could show his true colours or something." Dev told sounding almost horrified with the prospect.
"Stop being so overprotective. It's Riya's choice we are talking about. And if she thinks he's good for her then maybe he's actually good. It's not like they are getting married tomorrow. You still have a lot of time to know him. There's no hurry." Sonakshi said as she ran her hands through his jet black hair and mentally thought how tall he was. It was impossible to not think about it. She patted the light creases on his blazer, stepping away only to be pulled back by Dev.
"But what if..." he started only to be cut off when she placed her lips on his. Dev's eyes widened with shock when slowly the realization crept him that Sona was actually kissing him. Before he could come out of his stupor and kiss her back she parted away.
"Not a word. Now be a good boy and come down for breakfast. I'll see you there." Sonakshi quipped before walking out of the room.
Dev gaped at the audacity of the woman. Look at her. She had been the one to kiss him and then before he could kiss her she was running away from him. Could he ever understand women?
Riya turned the pages of the file, completely distracted and her attention varying. Sona looked up from her notepad and heard Riya sigh for the fifth time in the past 10 minutes. She'd been sitting on the dining chair, going over the same file, lost in her thoughts.
Something was up with the girl for sure.
But Sonakshi thought better of it and didn't bother asking her and let her be by herself. She knew Riya was quite mature and practical enough to handle her problems. But if Riya ever needed her then she would always be there.
Dev came to the dining room in the hope of getting a glance of his lady love. He picked the jug from the table and began filling his glass with water. With the corner of his eyes he glanced at Sona. There she was with her bright smile, busy instructing kicchu bhaiyya and noting down something in her notepad. When she looked up their eyes met. She gave him an indulgent smile and he returned it back with a shy smile embarrassed to have been caught staring at his girlfriend unabashedly. Sona looked at her left and then right making sure no one would notice and back at Dev before she blew a kiss at him. She silently laughed as she saw him blush and then shake his head at her.
In his embarrassment he managed to spill the water over Riya who was still oblivious to it.
"Oh. I'm sorry Riya. My mistake. I wasn't looking" he said as he hurriedly looked for a tissue.
"Huhh??" Riya asked still dishelved with her thoughts. Dev looked suspiciously at her but shrugged and then handed her a tissue to wipe off the water from her hands. He walked inside the kitchen to find a few wipes when Sonakshi tugged at his hand and pulled him down to her height.
"Check on Riya will you?" Sona muttered in a low voice causing Dev to glance at Riya and then her.
"Why? What's wrong?" He asked confused of why she was telling him so.
"That is what you need to find. Now talk to her Mr. Oblivious Dixit." She snickered and he narrowed his eyes at her for calling him oblivious. Sonakshi just rolled her eyes and stuffed the cloth in his hand before pushing him out of the kitchen. Dev amusedly walked out shaking his head. He was being kicked out of his own kitchen by none other than Dr. Bose.
Once he had cleaned the table, he took a seat beside Riya and turned his chair to face her.
"What's up?" He asked softly after an awkward clear of throat.
'Ceiling Mr. Aubodhro. Ceiling.' Sona muttered to herself trying hard to not listen to their conversation. Kicchu asked her if she needed something and Sonakshi mentally chided herself before telling him to give Ishwari her morning juice to which kicchu agreed and left the kitchen.
"Nothing Bhai." Riya said smiling or at least trying to.
"All okay at work?" He prodded her further.
"Yes everything is fine." Riya assured him.
"Then why do you look so sad and lost. Does it have anything to do with Amit?" Dev asked now a little worried.
'I'm not sad. It's just..." Riya trailed off a little hesitant. Dev placed his hand on hers making her look at him.
"You know you can tell me. If you won't find a solution you'll at least feel better." Dev assured her with a smile trying to ease the situation.
"Amit and I...we... we fought." Riya confessed after a few attempts. Dev motioned for her to continue.
"It's nothing serious. But it just got me thinking. He...he wants to get married soon and I told him we should wait until I have a stable, self sustaining career. Now he thinks I'm only into my job and career. It's not like I don't want to marry him. I just want to wait. It's probably a silly fight. But it's just got to me. You know I always thought I can keep my personal and professional life separate and can manage both just fine. But now it seems one interferes the other. And its simply not possible to keep one happy without disappointing the other. And that's really disturbing me" Riya filled him in with a sigh. Dev decided not to butt in and let her speak.
"And I know Amit's not wrong either. He doesn't have any issue with me working after marriage. But I think I want to wait. And he's angry with me about it. I'm... I'm utterly clueless of what I want." Riya finished and looked at her brother expectantly.
Dev remembered a young Riya who confided him with all her problems because she thought he had a magic wand and could miraculously shoo all her problems away. Dev gave her his first genuine and warm smile before he took her hand in his.
"I'm actually not supposed to speak in between of you. But I'm advising you as an elder brother and a person who has seen more life. You both are right in your own places. Amit's not wrong because he loves you and wants to get married to you and even doesn't have any problem with you working after marriage. And neither are you for wanting to wait and focus on your career first and then think of marriage" Dev began and Riya nodded attentively.
"But Riya no one's stopping you from concentrating on your career even if you get married. That won't change what you are. You will be still independent and have your own money."
"Now about Amit. If he really loves you then he should wait. If he can't then you know he was not worth it. You are not becoming selfish by giving prominence to your career" Dev continued.
"If you guys truly love each other and want to spend the rest of your lives together then what's a little wait." Dev nudged her and Riya smiled shyly.
"And you're right. There are times when your job and personal time surfaces over the other. For that all you need to do is give time. You both need to give time to each other. There's no use hurrying. It's a matter of whole life Riya. You can't hurry and then repent. So think and think well. I know you. You're very mature and practical. I trust your decisions." Dev advised her about all he knew and had learnt on the course of his and Sona's relationship.
"Now I think you should call him and you both need to talk. Spend some time and rethink about your decision. Life's a long and unpredictable journey. But it always makes it easier when you have someone else to share it with." Dev gave her an assuring hug and Riya hugged him back feeling a lot better.
"Thank you bhai. Thank you so much. I feel much lighter now and things seem less complicated." Riya told him gratefully after retreating from the hug.
"No need to thank me. Just remember I'm always there for you chashmish." He told her as he affectionately puckered her nose.
Sonakshi silently walked in with the breakfast bowls and placed it on the table. She was still reeling with how great of a brother Dev was and wondered altogether if she'd simply fallen for him again. Dev Dixit was a charmer.
Dev looked at her with a furtive glance of his eyes and she smiled at him, affection and pride shining in her eyes. It eventually rubbed off on Dev who couldn't help but smile back at her, his heart swelling with the look of pride in her eyes. It always managed to make him happy with how much proud she was of him. It always mattered to him to know what she thought of him.
Dev and Riya continued their breakfast as Sonakshi left for the kitchen. Ishwari had told she was a little unwell and had decided to have her breakfast in bed. Nikki was still sleeping thanks to her late night studying and Neha had left for her English classes. Maami was off to temple along mamaji and Vicky was MIA as usual. That left the brother sister duo all to themselves.
"By the way bhai how come you know so much about love. Did you ever fall in love with someone? I mean apart from your work?" Riya asked and then smacked herself at her question.
"Ofcourse no. What am I even asking? But let's just say hypothetically you're in love and in a relationship. Don't you think you're gonna face such problems? Like about your workaholic behaviour?" Riya asked him her eyes twinkling with excitement.
Dev was suddenly taken aback at her question, his heartbeat running a mile every second. But then he thought better of it and decided to answer her calmly. After all there was no harm in answering Riya.
"No I don't think so." Dev quipped so confident of the fact earning a quizzical look from Riya. Ya he actually quipped. He was quipping. Goodness Sona was rubbing off on him.
"And why is that?" Riya asked buttering her toast as much less as possible not wanting a lecture on diet control from Dr. Bose. Firstly she hadn't expected him to answer her question. If she knew her brother right he'd eventually give her his 'Are you serious look' and then it would slip into 'You all girls are the same' after which he'd give her a piece of his mind. She was already mentally preparing for this charade.
Dev wiped the napkin over his mouth and quietly got up from his chair. He gave a quick glance at Sonakshi, whose eyes were as wide as possible by a human and then back at an expectant Riya. Sonakshi waited with bated breath for his answer.
"Simple. It's because I fell in love with my bestfriend." Dev said with an happy smile and ruffled her hair before walking out to the door leaving a gaping Riya and Sonakshi behind.
Dev Dixit had done it. He'd managed to leave everyone speechless, yet again.
Riya decided she didn't know her brother at all.
Done done. Thank you for the overwhelming response you gave me on the previous os. So this is for all Devakshians who are waiting for Dev to realize his feelings for Sona. Kudos.
P.S: I'm not really fond of the title. So how about you guys suggest me one. And I'll select the suitable one and whoever suggests the best, I'll dedicate my next os to that member. So cheers.😉
