Hey guys, this is the second part. Sorry for the delay, I'm loaded with school work. Enjoy!
___________
The Dixit house was looking more opulent than ever- flowers and elegant crystals adorned every corner. A lot of effort had been put into making the house suitable for the night's party. Natasha and Mr. Gujral walked into the house, smiling as they admired the decorations.
"The house is looking beautiful. Mr. Dixit is too good." Mr. Gujral said.
"Of course, Papa. Dev never fails to satisfy. " Natasha grinned as she replied, clinging on to her father's arm.
Riya obliviously walked right past them, heading to her room.
"Suno Riya!" Natasha shouted from behind her. Riya turned around to see that it was none other than Mr. Gujral's daughter.
Ugh, why did she have to come? She rolled her eyes and sighed as she made her way towards Natasha. "Yes Natasha?" "Woh... I couldn't seem to find Dev. Where is he? Can you call him?" Natasha spoke with a hint of desperation. "Natasha... he's still getting ready. He'll be out in no time." "Acha.. can you tell him I am here?" Riya snickered to herself. "Ok. I'm sure that he already knows though." and she walked off in a haste.
Dev put on his tie as he adjusted the lapels of his shiny, black blazer. Staring at his reflection in the mirror, he felt an unsual emptiness in his stomach.
Dev, today's your day. You should be happy, the deal is done. And you're getting married soon too. Marriage. To Dev, the word had such a bitter taste to it.
Shouldn't marriage be a happy thing? Why am I not happy? Riya's entrance broke Dev from his trance. "Arey wah, You look so handsome bhai." Riya smiled as she walked towards him. Dev blushed. "Natasha was calling you." "The Gujrals are here already?" "Yeah, I was confused as well. Natasha was going crazy looking for you." Riya giggled as she mocked her, eliciting an angry glare from Dev. "Chalo, good luck with your crazy girlfriend." Riya chuckled as she left the room, leaving Dev confused.
Girlfriend? First Sonakshi, now her? Why does everyone think she is my girlfriend? She was just an acquaintance to Dev, nothing less nor more. Dev sighed as he walked out of his room.
Descending the stairs, Dev walked to the Gujrals first.
"Namaste sir." Dev shook his hand.
"Mr. Dixit, you really have surprised me today. The decorations are excellent."
"Thank you sir. I am glad you like it."
"You are looking really nice today, Dev." Natasha chirped.
"Thank you." He replied coldly.
"Excuse me please." Dev said as he went to go greet other guests.
Meanwhile, Sonakshi got ready in her room. She draped on a light and sheer white sari. It was simple, but along with her jhumkas and deep red lipstick, Sonakshi was looking ethereal. She pulled out her phone only to realize she was running late. Grabbing her purse, Sonakshi ran out of her room.
---------
Dev gazed around the now larger crowd of guests. Still no sign of Sonakshi. He groaned as he looked at his watch. Natasha noticed his uneasiness and approached him.
"Dev, what happened?" "Nothing." He solemnly replied. "Are you looking for somebody?" Before he could reply, Dev's eyes wandered to the front door. There stood Sonakshi, the one he was so desperately seeking. Dev felt his anxiety vanish. The air felt lighter. Everything felt like it was in place. He couldn't help but lovingly stare at how beautiful she looked. Her white sari hung a bit loose on her thin frame. Her shining caramel skin peeked through from under the sheer fabric. The way she innocently smiled and ran her fingers through her hair made his heartbeat speed up.
"Dev?" Natasha's voice cut him off from his reverie.
"Excuse me, Natasha." Dev walked away from her.
"But Dev-"
Ugh, what's wrong with this guy? Why is he avoiding me? Natasha groaned.
Dev walked up to Sonakshi, who was talking to Ishwari. "Ms. Bose, why are you so late?" Sonakshi turned her gaze to his concerned voice. She couldn't help but notice how handsome he was looking in his tux. "Woh... sorry Mr. Dixit." "It's okay. You look quite nice today, Ms. Bose." He replied awkwardly. Sonakshi blushed and smiled, "Thank you. You look good too." "Dev beta, have you greeted those guests yet?" Ishwari asked Dev. "Nahi, not yet. I will go greet them."
Did Mr. Obhodro just compliment me? She shyly smiled to herself as she sipped her juice.
Sonakshi's thoughts were interrupted by a young man who approached her. He looked quite affluent, decked out in a business suit. "Hello." He smiled at her. "Hi. I don't think I know you?" He laughed. "No, but allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Tiwari. I couldn't help but notice how beautiful you are. Would you like to dance?" Sonakshi stared at him confusingly, and then reluctantly placed her hand in his. He led her to the dance floor, with Sonakshi quietly following. They held a comfortable distance, but his hand in hers made her feel weird. It didn't feel right. Ignoring her gut, Sona continued to slow dance with Mr. Tiwari.
Dev and Natasha were standing side-by-side in an awkward silence. Natasha looked to Sonakshi and Mr. Tiwari dancing and smiled in delight. "Ms. Bose makes a cute couple with him, hai na?" Dev's eyes shot to the dance floor, where he saw that Sonakshi was dancing with Mr. Tiwari, one of Dev's business rivals.
Who invited him? His blood boiled seeing Mr. Tiwari pull Sonakshi closer to him. Sonakshi looked so helpless and upset in his arms, like a deer caught in headlights. Natasha noticed Dev's growing anger, and placed a hand on his shoulder to try to calm him down. "Dev, would you like to go dance?" she asked cheerfully. Ignoring her, Dev clenched his fist and made his way to the dance floor.
Sonakshi was feeling more and more uncomfortable. She felt the eyes of a lot of people on her. Her thoughts were broken by a familiar voice. "Ms. Bose, would you like to dance?" Sonakshi turned around to realize Dev had appeared on the dance floor. "Mr. Dixit, tum?" Mr. Tiwari asked. "You know each other?" He asked a bewildered Sonakshi. Before she could respond, Dev cut her off. "Yes, she's my mother's nutritionist. A very good nutritionist, too. She cares a lot for my mother." Dev responded in his cold, possessive tone. Mr. Tiwari shrugged and awkwardly laughed. "Would you like to dance with him?" A conflicted Sona felt the eyes of both men pierce her soul. Dev's deep brown eyes stared directly at hers, silently attracting her. She nodded, placing her hand in Dev's, and walked slowly behind him. Dev gently pulled her towards him, placing his hand on the bare of her back and holding her hand with the other. She drew her breath when she felt his cold hand touch her skin.
The two slowly swayed with the soft music. Sonakshi stared at him with teary eyes, and then shifted her gaze to Natasha, who stood watching, clearly upset. "Mr. Dixit, why did you ask me to dance?" Dev glared at her and stayed silent. "Mr. Dixit, I asked you something." "I saw that you were uncomfortable. That's it." "Why do you care if I am uncomfortable? After all, I am just your mother's nutritionist." Dev twirled her around and turned her, her back now against his chest. Sonakshi felt her heart beat quicken as his hands traveled down her arms and wrapped around her bare stomach. "Why, would you like to be more than that?" Dev asked in his raspy voice as he breathed against her neck. With that, he twirled a breathless Sona around, making her face him. Dev furrowed his brows at her, and let go of her hand, walking away from her. Sonakshi stood in the middle of the dance floor alone, a tear running down her cheek. She wiped it away, and watched Dev go up the stairs in obvious anger.
