Hello! A short OS that i thought of!
Fernweh refers to a longing or to miss being in a place or home you've never been to before.
Here goes:
He tossed and turned, trying to find a better position to sleep in. He settled on sleeping on his side, one hand under the pillow. He closed his eyes and tried to clear his mind but to no avail. He got up frustrated and started to pace in his room. Today had been a very long, tiring day. His mind didn't feel at peace even though he had succeeded today. Something bothered him in the back of his mind and he didn't know what.
He walks to his bedside table and pulls out the drawer, only to see it is empty. He threw out the pills after ms. Bose advised him not to take them.
She also advised that he share his problems with someone. But with whom? There was no way he was going to tell ma about his issues or his sisters. He was their support, their secret keeper. He can't show his problems and show them that he needs someone too, otherwise they'll stop sharing their problems with him. Dev sat on his bed and pulled out his phone. Should he call her? After all, they had shared some things before, surely she will be fine with this. She was the only other person he could trust to not freak out over his problems. He hesitated to dial her number. But his mind was in such shambles that he was on the verge of losing it and she for some reason felt like the only one who could help him.
Sona woke up groggily as her phone rang. Who was calling her at this time of the night when she had finally found some sleep? She picked up to see Dev's name flash across the screen and immediately got up. Was something wrong?
"Hello? Dev? Is everything okay? Auntyji theek hai na? Nikki theek hai na? Aap ko kuch hua hai kya?" she hurriedly mumbled into the phone.
Dev who didnt have the chance to speak till now smiled a bit. She really worried about his family. " Ms. Bose, sab theek hai."
Sona, confused: phir aapne itni raat ko call kyin kiya?
Dev, instantly feeling guilty: woh mai...i'm sorry. Mujhe neend nahi aarahi thi. Pata nahi kyun ajab se bechaini hai mere andar. Mujhe kuch samjah nahi aaraha. Aisa lagta hai jaise mai koi bomb hoon jo phatjaunga. Aap ne kaha tha kisi se share karne ke liye is hi liye call kiya tha...but i'm sorry mai ne aapko disturb kardiya...
Sona, shocked but also moved that he decided to share with her: nahi nahi, its okay mr. Dixit, aap mujhse share karsakte hain. Mai aapki saari baatein sunungi.
Dev, silent.
Sona: hello? Dev?
Dev liked it when she called him that. But his restlessness grew he couldn't do this over the phone. How does one talk like this? Aise kaise log apni baatein phone par karlete hain?
Sona: dev? Hello?
Dev: haan, hello, ms.bose im sorry mujhse nahi hoga. Mai janta hi nahi ki kaise batau aur kya batau!
Sona: mil kar baat karein?
Dev, thinks about it and says: theek hain. Mai aaraha hoon. Please ghar par kisi se mat kehna.
Sona, smiling: nahi bataungi.
They hang up and Dev sneaks out of the house.
She slowly tip toes across the halls and goes out of the house. She waits for a few minutes in the cold until he arrives. She looks at him get out of his car, he has a pained expression on his face, his hair is also a mess and his clothes crumpled but fitted against his form. Sona liked it when he wore casuals, he looked more of his age and cuter. He didn't even look aubodhro like this.
He walks over to her and says "hi"
Sona looks at him with a small smile and says
"hi"
They stand in awkward silence before sona leads them to a tree with a sit out around it.
Sona: aap theek hain?
Dev, flusterred: pata nahi. Mujhe neend nahi aarahi aur ek ajab se restlessness hai.
Sona: mai janti hoon aapke liye thods difficult hoga, par try toh kijiye.
Dev looks at her as they sit
Sona: aap ka din kaisa tha? Kya kya kiya aapne aaj?
Dev rambled on about one meeting after another as sona looked at him hopelessly. She knew what she could do but the waters were testy. Reluctantly, she placed her hand on his and weaved their fingers, much to both of them's surprise. Dev looked at their entwined hands and looked at her confused.
Sona: share karne mei aasani hogi...
Dev understands and leans against the tree.
He starts talking about his small problems first. His mind wasn't at rest, he was sleepless, and then slowly, he indulged more. He talked and she listened, and while they talked, dev's fingers had curled around her palm in his, holding it in place against his palm. Sona looked at him as he talked, or tried to talk. His sentences were scattered as he rambled. She just looked at the man next to him, listening to every word he said, falling in love with him even more. He was so innocent and lost. His eyes were troubled and his eyebrows furrowed. He was just Dev. Not Mr. Dev dixit, the businessman. He was the boy who lost his childhood too early, the boy who cared too much about his family and not at all about himself. Sona could feel his loneliness in the way he clutched at her hand as he talked.
They sat under the cool shade of the tree in the breezy night as he shared anecdotes from his childhood. He seemed a lot more calmer now. He also gave out some smiles as he remembered. But soon, it vanished. His face became stern as he told sona about his mother's struggles, she listened quietly. Dev turns to look at her face. They were sitting close to each other, their arms touching as her shoulder leaned on his, hands still entwined. Her keart skipped a beat as he faced her, so close. Dev instantly felt concious and realized their proximity. He didn't mind though, he actually kind of liked it...what is he thinking? This is ms. Bose, she probably doesn't like any guy being so close to her, but why isn't she back away? Her eyes are so beautiful, and her beautiful skin glows. He was surprised at how much he had told her. But his mind was still reeling. He stood up, pulling her with him. He let go of her hand and she came to her senses.
Sona: mai ne kaha tha na, itna difficult nahi hai.
Dev: haan, but i'm sorry mai pata nahi kitni der se kya kya kehraha tha. Aapki neend kharab hogayi.
Sona, smiling at his apology: koi baat nahi, ab shayad neend sukoon se aajaye. You're not the only one struggling with sleep these days.
Dev, confused and worried: kyun, kya hua? Aap ko kuch problems satarahi hai?
Sona: nahi mr. Dixit, shayad mujhe bhi kisi ke saath ki zarurat thi.
She blurts it out and then blushes on her confession.
Dev, blushing: aap aise fluctuate kyun hoti rehti hain? Kabhi dev, kabhi mr. Dixit? Dev kahiye na, achha lagta hai.
He didnt know why he couldn't stop talking.
Sona, smiling: ohkay, dev...
Dev just nods and looks down.
They stand in comfortable silence and dev says:
Ab mujhe jana chahiye, kuch hi der mei subah hojayegi...thankyou ms. Bose, and i'm sorry mai ne aapki raat kharab kardi--
Sona, interrupting: sshhh! She looks at him reluctantly.
She feels elated and a bit gutsy, so she just walks closer to him and slowly wounds her arms around his neck firmly, pulling him down and closer to her. He is in a state of shock at first and feels every single hair on his arms and neck stand up, but then, can't help but encase her waist in his arms, lightly. It begins to feel warm and comforting tqo he tightens his grip around her and rests his forehead on her shoulder, pulling her so him. He felt something inside him break and let go, like a dam as he hangs on to her firmly, taking in the warmth she gave. Sona queitly ran her fingers on his neck and hair as a sign of support, as she felt him lean into her and comfort himself. Dev was overwhelmed in this new feeling. It was comfort but like never before, relief like never before and longing like never before. He felt like he had belonged there emotionally, letting go of all his worries and just holding onto something that felt so homely and reciprocative. "sab theek hojaega...dont worry..." sona whispers against the side of his head. Her consolation eases him further as he nuzzles his head against her shoulder.
They stand like that for what seems like several sunlit days, her consoling him, and him firmly holding her against him in longing. Dev was at peace, his mind was at rest and his heart was beginning to bounce in his chest. Something came over him as he wanted to move his head to her face and kiss her cheeks, but suprise he feels at the thought snaps him out of his reverie. Sona, who was well aware of dev's hold on her was trying not to let it affect her. She just wanted to support him emotionally. Dev, now abashed at how strongly he was holding her and suddenly aware of her warmth breath down his neck slowly loosened his hold. Sona too let go and steadied herself on her feet. They looked at each other as they stood face to face, her hands on his chest and his on her elbows. Both of them looked down and stepped apart. "Better?" Sona asked him, quietly. He looked up to her and nodded.
The truth was, he had never felt better. There was a calm inside him that was unfamiliar to him. What had she done to him? Why did he hug her back so tightly? Why did he react the way he did? It had completely broken down his heart and let his emotions pour out. Why did she hug him?
Dev: aap...kyun?...
He struggles to frame his question.
Sona knows it worked, she could it.
Sona: good night Dev...
And she walks back towards the house, hugging herself, trying to compete against the cool wind and keeping the warmth dev left onto her safe. There was an emptiness now where his strong arms had held her.
Dev looks at her walking away. There was a sudden empty coolness where her form had rested against his. Cool wind hit his neck sending tingles down his neck where her warm face had been. "ms. Bose!...thankyou" he calls out to her and she stops in her tracks. She turns around and says "Sona!" and smiles widely. She turns back and continues walking, leaving a smiling Dev behind. He too started to walk back towards his car but stopped and looked back towards her house once. A curtain shifted in the top windows and he could make out her face in the dark. He smiled at it and continued walking to his car.
Back in his room, Dev lay on his bed, he did feel a bit sleepy but wasn't exhausted. A certain elation filled him. He felt light and his restlessness was gone. For the moment atleast. And he knew it was because of her. She had rid of him of it. He smiled as he thought of her and somewhere between his thoughts, sleep overcame him, putting him in a deep, undisturbed slumber.
