Designed to win
Kolangal, which has completed over 800 episodes, continues to enthral
viewers
At a time when quite a few Tamil serials are losing their gloss, V.
Thiruselvam's "Kolangal" (Sun TV, Monday-Friday, 9 p.m.) continues to
keep viewers spellbound. The mega serial, which has been running
successfully for more than three years, will complete 1,000 episodes
soon.
"Kolangal" has emerged as the number one TV serial with a healthy TRP
that fluctuates between 22 and 24. Also, the dubbed versions in
Malayalam and Telugu are garnering impressive TRPs and the Kannada
remake "Siri" is a topper too.
What's the secret behind the success of "Kolangal"? Well, there is
something for everyone in the family. The story and the manner in
which it has been packaged and presented by writer-director-actor
Thiruselvam is perhaps its USP.
The story revolves around Abhi (Devayani) and her business rival and
half brother, Aditya (Ajay Kapoor). What makes the serial popular is
its protagonist Abhi (played brilliantly by Devayani), who is a hard
working, head strong, ambitious woman with a lot of values and
principles.
Gripping tale
Thiruselvam has woven a gripping story of a middle class woman who
fights against all odds to reach the top. Abhi's courage to walk out
of a failed marriage and be a pillar of strength to her large family
make her a winner.
Says Devayani: "The serial and the character have given me an
identity, something I never got even after working in 80-odd films.
What I like about Abhi is her willpower to face problems bravely,
without shedding tears or wallowing in self pity."
Says Thiruselvam: "Judging by the feedback I have received, Abhi has
become a role-model for many women."
Last Friday (February 23) in "Kolangal", Abhi has lost everything,
including her construction company that she built up with great
passion and hard work, to Aditya. The confrontation scenes between
the two were gripping.
From now on, the story takes a new twist as Abhi is virtually on the
streets! How she fights back and emerges winner once again will be
told in the coming months.
....
bottomline: this show goes on for many more months in the future.
