I AM NINETY PERCENT HAPPY WITH MY CAREER - SADHA
Life is full of surprises and the celluloid world is no exception from this phenomenon. An actor or actress who is a native of Kollywood may roll on the ground or get potential offers but his or her attempts go in vain. Whereas a newcomer to this domain is given a chance and she becomes a celebrity. His or her debut film deeply imprints in audience's mind screen.
For Sadha, it is simply Sadha, since she is back after hiatus, she has been part of so many block busters (Jayam, Anniyan, Unnale Unnale) and yet is happy being in the background. That is the actress Sadha for you. She prefers to let her work do the talking.
"I maintain a low profile. I am not part of gossip columns and take time to open up to people. I do give interviews befor a film release, but that is about it," she says.
Currently shooting for Sangeetha Sivan's Hindi film 'Click' where she is paired with the acclaimed actor Shreayas Gapade, Sadha is all excited bout her role. "I play a model in the film and my role is both challenging and glamourous." Her other Hinid films Sreenivas' 'Love Game' with Sandeep Hooda where she plays the girl-next-door is awaiting release.
And Leelai is a remake of Ram Gopal Varma's ghost flick 'Darling' with Madhavan is due to hit the big screen too. So is the Malayalam 'Novel' with Jayaram.
Can Life get better? "Yeah, I am 90% happy with my career but certain things can be better. Like dance. I am good at classical but I have been wanting to learn western forms such as 'salsa'," says the chirpy actor from Mumbai who is now fluent in both Tamil and Telugu.
She initially found both languages difficult to handle. " My very first film was Teja's 'Jayam' in Telugu. I signed it by sheer chance. I have no film background and landed the role when the coordinator saw me. The film was a huge hit and I became part of the industry, " she recalls.
WHAT DOES SHE THINK ABOUT HER POPULARITY?
"Tell me, am I really popular?" asks Sadha modestly.
You want to remind her that her sprightly number 'Randakka' from 'Anniyan' and possessive 'Jhansi' of 'Unnale Unnale' are still fresh in people's memory. "After Anniyan, I got so many similar roles. I am now looking for roles where my relative potential is tapped. I don't want to be part of such cinema where all one has to do is dance around, "she says.
As for her last hit in Tamil, the late Jeeva's 'Unnale Unnale'. she says working in that film was a wonderful experience. "The role was different and so was the twist. I shared such a long association with Jeeva and was confident about the film. He offered me 'Dhaam Dhoom' but I could not do it. I promised to be part of his next but there is no next time now. I trusted him so much as a technician. His death was so unfortunate."
After all these years, she now looks at the banner and the director before signing a film. "With a known banner you know you can focus on just your role. When everyone except me is new, it means carrying an entire film on my shoulders, " she said.
After 'Click' is it going to be destination Bollywood? "Well, I am not comfortable in Hindi because I grew up in Mumbai. Luckily I have never had to go about looking for work. And both my Hindi films were made by South Indians. Now people from North are approaching me. So why not?" she remarks.
The way she is exuding confidence is a lesson to new actresss, who are now not in the rolls, to have roles!
