Eijaz reveals birthday plans

------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------

wild rider: Eijaz Khan

Plans to bring home his Kawasaki Ninja from Dubai

Tushar Joshi
tushar.joshi@mid-day.com

Apart from good-looking women, if there's anything that drives Eijaz Khan wild, it's his fixation for bikes. The actor has been obsessed with bikes right from his college days. "I love bikes. There's something about these machines that drives me crazy," says Khan.
Recalling his early days where he rode a Bullet, he says, "Along with my brother and friends we had started this club where we would go riding on our bikes. It was a lot of fun."
But does the actor have time for his biking passion now? "Work doesn't permit me to indulge in bikes anymore, but whenever I get a chance I pick up someone's bike on the set and go for a ride. I think it has something to do with being a free spirit and enjoying your freedom."
Need for speed
Eijaz remembers how he modified one of his bikes by attaching it with a side buggy from a scooter. "It looked really nice, and it's quite sturdy as well. I have fun doing all these wild things with bikes." Other than bikes, the actor also has a soft corner for SUVs. "I like driving them, but bikes will always be my first love."
In fact, this year on August 28 (which happens to be his birthday), Eijaz plans to make one of his long-cherished dreams come true. "Last year, I went to Dubai and picked up a Kawasaki Ninja 900. However, I have still been unable to get it back home. This year, I want to be able to ride it and enjoy the speed. If it happens on my birthday, then nothing like it," says Eijaz.
Flight of fancy
Even though he doesn't have any plans made for the big day, Eijaz hopes he can take a week off. "I would love to just get a week off, pick up a few clothes and head to the nearest airport. I don't mind getting on any flight as long as it's going out of Mumbai."
On the work front, Eijaz has no idea about his last working day on Kavyanjali. "I would not be in any capacity to speculate on such a date. This information lies with the creative heads and the production house. However, the last day — whenever it comes — will be quite
emotional for me, since Kavyanjali has been an important part of my life

Anita's not so 'little' dreams

Farhana Farook

Wednesday, August 09, 2006 19:08 IST

The mole on her face is arresting. And so has been her rise to fame as Anjali in 'Kkavyanjali' (Star Plus).

And now that the show draws to an end towards the month's end, actor Anita Hassandani wants to take a break and relax.

She says, "I have been doing 'Kkavyanjali' for a year and a half and I am slightly tired. I have been shooting non-stop."

Interestingly, Anita who began her career with films 'Yeh Dil' and 'Kucch Toh Hai' wants to try her luck with films once again.

"One of my films 'Gundgali Kumar Rama' has been released down South and has won rave reviews. My role was performance-oriented. So I want to try my hand at films. I don't want to have regrets later. While I take a break from TV, I want to meet people and see how things work."

She adds philosophically, "We live only once. So why not look forward to new things?"
Incidentally, close friend Ektaa Kapoor is planning a show based on the book 'Little Women' and is keen to cast good friend Anita in it. The show will take a while though.
"I love doing TV. Whatever I am today is because of it. I hope to get back to work with a fresh approach," says Anita.

Quiz her on how she felt when Ektaa named her among the most promising faces of 2007 and Anita states humbly, "Ektaa is amazing. She's given new faces to TV. So it feels nice to be named by her. She's great with the creative aspects. You can wake her up at 4 am and ask her about any episode and she will be perfectly tuned in! Balaji has been very kind to me."

While Ektaa had once singled out patience as Anita's strength, Anita reveals, "I cherish my friendship with Ektaa. I admire her focus. Shobha (Kapoor) aunty has always been there for me like a mother. If Ektaa and I have fought and if I am right, she stands by me."

The usually reticent Anita confesses that she's media-shy. "I am slightly reserved. People often mistake this for arrogance. Even during interviews my answers are short," she explains. The true-blue professional however adds, "If you dream of something and work towards it, you can achieve it. I work hard. I never tire even if it gets repetitive. I believe in doing it with a smile."

That's the exit door!

Replacement and abstraction of characters make a show newsy but for some serials it has somewhat become a routine affair.

We are talking about Balaji's Kahiin To Hoga, which has a track record of oustering out many actors. It first started with Rajeev Khandelwal aka Sujal's decision to opt out of the show, which saw a major nose-dive in it's TRPs. Later actor Eijaz Khan bowed out due to his Kaavyanjali commitment and was replaced by Manish Sighania. Urvashi Dholakia, who played Archie, was sidelined as her track wasn't required, Surveen Chawla (Charu) was bumped off as it was speculated that her popularity was bothering Aamna Shariff (Kashish). Poonam Joshi who played Mahek chickened out as she bagged a lead in Zee' Tumhari Disha. And the latest loss was the recent murder of Tinnu Anand (Mr. Alhuwalia). Phew! That was quiet a list.

Ab kiska number aayega?

Eijaz Khan escapes to Sharjah!

SUBHASH K JHA

TV stars seem to be suffering from chronic fatigue. All major players are desperately wanting a break. Eijaz Khan is no exception. "Though my serial Kavyanjali came to an end on my birthday this week, the work load didn't really decrease. I was still shooting until late into the night. The only time we wrapped up early recently was on the eve of my birthday. We were done with Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka (the show on Star One) by 11 pm on August 29 so I could bring in my birthday with my friends. But barely. There was hardly any time to sit and chat and catch up with them. They complain that we hardly get together any more."
Like many of his colleagues Eijaz has lost contact with his friends. But now Eijaz is on a holiday. "It's my birthday gift. I had taken time off on my last birthday too. I left for Sharjah on September 1 to be with my cousin and his family. He has a three-year-old child who doesn't recognise Eijaz Uncle!"
Not that the busy TV actor is complaining. "I've waited long for this time when I could work round the clock. After an accident I was bed-ridden for almost a year. That's when I realised the value of work," he says.
At the same time Eijaz admits he has no personal life, no friends, no time for a relationship. "I need to sort out that aspect of my life. But a relationship at this point of my life is a no-no. The last thing I need is a distraction from my work." Incidentally, Eijaz got along like a house on fire with his Kavyanjali co-star Anita Hasanandani. But the same cannot be said about his Nimmo... co-star Sanjeeda. Hence no chance of mixing business with pleasure. "There never is," says Eijaz. "On the TV medium the hours of work and the stress to complete schedules is much more intense. There's no time for distractions. After working till three in the morning, all you want is to be in bed… alone."

Know your co on the show?
Whether you're working in a call centre or the stock exchange, you're likely to know more than just the name of your co-workers after a while. We wondered if the same logic applied to on-screen TV couples, considering they spend nearly every waking hour with each other. Tushar Joshi discovers how well they know each other...

Ejaz Khan gets too big for his boots !

Since he entered the Balaji camp, Ejaz Khan has always been in the news for the right or the wrong reasons. Whether it's his link up with Karishma Tanna, his enmity with Nandini Singh and Sanjeeda Sheikh or his love-hate relationship with Natasha aka Anita, the dancer turned actor has always managed to create news.

A littler birdie from Balaji now tells us that Ejaz has suddenly started acting very pricey. "When Rajiv Khandelwal was around as Ekta's favourite; Ejaz would just get to mouth a few lines here and there in front of the camera. But now he behaves as if he is the best here," says the source sarcastically.

Looks like success and being Ekta Kapoor's blue eyed boy has gone to his head. Seems Ejaz has forgotten the fact that in the world of showbiz tables turn very quickly. God forbid but if something goes wrong, Ejaz will be left with nothing at all, not even friends. Anyways, for now the fact remains that Ejaz loves to make news, even if it's for the wrong reasons!

Urmila Matondkar Koena Mitra Neha Dhupia

Sharad Kapoor Tulip Joshi Sunil Shetty

Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora Chetan Hansraj with wife Lavinia Viveik Oberoi

The hosts were four — Ekta Kapoor, Sanjay Gupta, Apoorva Lakhia and Dharam Oberoi. The invite was simple and sent through SMSes: "10 pm. Be there at Ekta's new home in Juhu Scheme to celebrate the completion of the first schedule of White Feather Films' Shootout At Lokhandwala. Bring in director Apoorva Lakhia's birthday and Neha Oberoi winning the Best Supporting Actress for a film down South."

Sunil Shetty whizzed in early and before anybody could pin him down, Anna whizzed out. He tells us, "I had been up till 5 am and was very tired. I stayed back in my office in the suburbs till 11 pm just so I could wish Apoo (Lakhia) as I am very fond of him. I was there for exactly seven minutes."

Apoorva Lakhia
Manisha Koirala came in with her new arm candy, 25-year-old Akshay whom she refused to introduce to anybody.

Koena Mitra (who has lost even more weight working out at home) was another early bird but she didn't run out at Cinderella's hour. She made it abundantly clearthat she doesn't drink every time someone asked her, "where's your glass?"

At 1 am, three cakes were wheeled in and the celebrations began Viveik Oberoi seemed to be enjoying himself and was seen in a deep conversation with designer Nandita Mahtani. They got along like a house on fire. Dino wasn't in sight.

Tusshar Kapoor walked in late after having gone for the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada. That didn't stop him boogeying to the title track of his film, Golmaal when it was played. When Ekta finally breezed into her party, she looked hot in a strapless black dress. She seemed to be relaxed and in good spirits setting the dance floor afire with Kahiin Toh Hoga's latest entrant.

Arbaaz and Malaika Khan, Chunky Pandey (with shorter hair, thank God!) sans wife Bhavna, Gulshan Grover, Raj Zutshi, Bunty Walia with his unusually subdued wife, Suman (she's normally full of beans at a party), Aarti Chabria, Masumi, Neha Dhupia, Sikander Kher (sans parents Anupam and Kirron) represented the filmi brigade while Eijaz Khan and Anita made an entry together after a long time, Shabbir Ahluwalia (wonder what Eijaz and he were conversing about for such a long time?), a cheerful Hiten and Gauri (coming from rehearsals of Nach Baliye), Ekta's new babies, Naman Shaw and Pulkit Samrat, Prachi Desai with sister, Akashdeep sporting his black tikka from Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Rohit Roy with wife Manasi, but without big bro Ronit and Urvashi with best friend Shanelle. This was one party where the TV stars outshone the filmi crowd with most of the Bollywoodwallahs making an early exit by 2 am.

The party rocked till 3.30 am but we missed Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal (who is said to be close to Lakhia) and Anil Kapoor — who lives right next to Ekta's new home!

On a fashionable break
By: Tushar Joshi
September 26, 2006
Anita Hassanandani poses for designer Shilpa Kakwani's Fall/ Winter 2006 collection, called Tiara

She was last seen playing the lead role in Kavyanjali. These days, Anita Hassanandani is chilling out on a 'much deserved break'. In her spare time, the actress has returned to doing things she once enjoyed, namely modelling and doing photo shoots.

Recently, she shot for Shilpa Kakwani's Fall/Winter 2006 collection titled Tiara. We quizzed the actress on her fashion fundas.

How did you come to do this shoot?
Since I'm on a break, I decided to do some interesting photo shoots. The one I did with Shilpa was fun because we experimented with a lot of different looks.

Are you brand conscious?
I am not much into big names and brands. But my favourite stores are Si Branche and Mango. They are close to my house so I frequent them often.

How do you dress up before stepping out?
What I wear has to be comfortable, otherwise I don't step out. For me, it's all about what catches my attention and at the same time gives me maximum comfort. I make last minute decisions about what to wear. It depends on what my mood is. Accordingly, I mix and
match my ensemble for the evening.

Between acting and modelling, what do you enjoy more?
I think both are equally enjoyable and challenging. Modelling is all about posture and presentation. You have to work towards getting it right, acting on the other hand can be improved and worked upon.

Are you into accessories?
I usually try not to wear too much bling. It will either be some smart earrings, a bracelet or a chunky chain. But I don't wear all of them together! One thing I never step out of my house without is my ruby ring. I wear it according to my star sign and it helps me control my temper and resonate positivity.

Do you look up to anyone in terms of style and fashion?
I really like the way Shveta Salve dresses. Her clothes compliment her personality. Apart from her, I also love Malaika Arora's fashion style. Also, Jackie Shroff can carry off anything and everything with style and panache!
