Anita Hassanandani and Eijaz Khan shake a leg for a hot item song in a forthcoming film

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Anita Hassanandani is on a high. She has just returned from Mauritius and is performing a hot item number in PNC's (Pritish Nandy Communications) upcoming film.

And guess what? Giving her company is her 'good friend' Eijaz Khan. "Eijaz has done an item number in Zameer, (Dilli ki sard…' with Amrita Arora) and in Kuch Na Kaho ('Tumhe aaj maine…' with Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan). He is a damn good dancer and I'm not bad either. I can assure you that this is one song that will make people sit up and take notice of us," says Anita

Surely the two have been in the news for more reasons than just item numbers before. Khan had confessed that his feelings for Anita go beyond friendship. Point that out to her and she says, "Eijaz is a friend and I value our friendship. You can ask him about it. How can I answer that?"

Speaking of her recent weight loss she says, "I have a tendency to put on weight. The mere aroma of food makes me fat! But being part of this industry I have realised that physical appearance matters a lot. Even while starting a conversation, people comment about your weight as if it were the most important factor in your life!" The item number she suggests provided a boost to lose weight.

Ask her of her Mauritius trip and she gushes, "Ekta had asked the writers to write my scenes for the entire week's episodes of Kavyanjali. I had to shoot for a little extra time but I managed. That's how I could chill out in Mauritius for so many days. It was the best holiday I've had in years. I got to spend time with Shabbir (Ahluwalia) and Eijaz (Khan)," she says.

On the work front Hassanandani is better known for the character (Anjali in Kavyanjali) she plays. "The idea of playing Anjali daily may be monotonous but the chance to work with a great team and a great production house gives me a high. The serial has given me so much that I can never get bored of it," Anita says.

But what about Ekta Kapoor's new talk show which they were supposed to start? "I'm clueless about it. The best person to answer that question is Ekta. It's her show and she'll launch it whenever she feels the time is right. No one can question Ekta's vision," she says.

No No to dress code!!

Anita Hasnandani

I am not really aware of the dress codes in colleges though, but I think it shouldn't be that rigid. Students come to colleges to study as well as enjoy, and this makes their life very difficult. Also, I agree, there are some girls who take undue advantage of the freedom and wear revealing attire, so there should be a system with restrictions but not so rigid!

Ejaz returns in a new avatar

Interview of the week: By Lipika Varma

After a dramatic exit from Kkavyanjali, the dancer-turned-actor, Ejaz Khan is back in the show following an equally interesting twist. In this brief interview, he talks about the comeback, being Ekta Kapoor's blue-eyed boy, the bad ratings of Nimmo and of course co-star Anita.

Let's talk about the big one, Kkavyanjali and your comeback in it?
My comeback after my death in the show is quite interesting. I am totally a changed man now. My walk, my talk and my behaviour is that of a different man. I have travelled all over the world and I return to India where I meet Anjali (Anita, formerly Natasha). The experience is very emotional and sensitive also. I am enjoying my role very much.

What was it that made Ekta call you back?
She has faith in my talent. After Kkusum, she has repeated me in many of her shows. Moreover, my character was very popular which couldn't be done without. I guess that's what she felt.

It was reported that your character from Kkavyanjali was ousted because you couldn't handle two shows at a time! If this is true, now that you are back, won't Ekta face the same problem and grumble because of it?
Why will she? In fact both the serials that I am doing are from the Balaji camp. So they readily adjusted all my timings and the reports that Kavya's character was ousted because of the date problem is just a rumour.

Let's talk about the X-factor in you which has compelled Ekta to take you in her other serials also?
I do not know what she likes and dislikes about me. But I know for fact that sincerity and hardwork is recognised by everyone. I have worked in quite a few Balaji serials and it includes biggies like Kkusum, Kesar, Kkoi dil...

How does it feel when a much-hyped show like Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka doesn't do well? Is it one of the reasons you were eager to come back to Kkavayanjali?
I don't know about your ratings. But I am very proud of a good show like Nimmo. Kkavyanjali might be a hit, but Nimmo according to me isn't a flop either.

But no one watches it!
I don't think so. Me and my circle of friends like it and there are many others who watch it regularly too.

How was the experience of working with Anita? Did she throw any tantrums while shooting, given the fact that she is very close to Ekta?
(Laughs) In fact, I am the one who throws more tantrums. I am stressed as I am doing two serials at a time. So I expect others to co-operate with me.

By the way, are you seeing Anita?

How would you spend your romantic moments?
I have nobody in my life to spend lovey-dovey moments with. My love is my profession right now.

Sources reveal that you were a dancer by profession before getting into serials?
I have performed in a number of stage shows with Ganesh Hegde, Ashley and Lobo and many other choreographers. I am not a trained dancer but dancing is my passion.

Ekta rocks them and how!

TV queen Ekta Kapoor's much awaited bash at Krishna bungalow was a blast. Apparently, a belated birthday celebration it had all the hotties from TV in

Ekta Kapoor with Hiten Tejwani at a party in Bohemia
attendance. Ekta true to herself made an entrance at about 1:30 am. And the place just sizzled after that, as she went around with her cocktail test tubes and forced them down her cast's and friends' throats.

Until she arrived brother Tusshar made up for her absence, looking smart and clean, standing close to the bar, giving the likes of Ken Ghosh, Manish Malhotra, Urmila Matondkar, Issha Kopikar, Neelam Kothari, and Goldie Behl company.

Hiten Tejwani came flexing his hairy biceps and with wife Gauri looking slim as a reed and headed straight for the drinks counter. Shabbir Ahluwalia looked sharp with his hair tucked into a peak cap (which later Ekta pulled off and tried for a moment before flopping it back on to his head). All the other Ekta regulars were in attendance: Yash and Gauri Tonk, Chaitanya Choudhory, Eijaz Khan, Anita Hassanandani, Reva Babbar (she needs to lose a few pounds), Narayani Shastri, (making a fashion statement by wearing a dress which displayed her broad hips), Ali Hassan (why has he disappeared from the screen), Manasi Verma (the graceful dancer is gradually gaining weight), Bobby Darling (she went into a clinch with Shabbir as soon as she entered Krishna), Roshni Chopra, Sanjeeda, Rakshanda Khan (she hung around with Anita, Ken, Salil Chaturvedi and a young kid who is being touted as the next biggest thing to hit film after Jaaved Akhtar), Ali Asgar (he is awaiting the release of his films), Gaurav Gera (he spent time with the affable Sony programming head Anupama Mandloi).
Kiran Karmakar and his wife Rinku, Chetan Hansraj and his wife Lavina, Pawan Shankar and his gorgeous wife Yukti, Rajeev and Raakesh Paul, the prodigal Prabhat Bhattacharyya, sweet Nikhil Aryya, the chocolate pin up Naman Shah, Urvashi Dholakia, Jennifer Winget, Preeta Puri, Mushtaq, Anupam Verma, Suneeta Menon, Amit Tandon, Vikas Sethi, Sanjit Bedi, Kushal Punjabi, Aamir Ali, Hiten Paintal and Kishwar, Anoop Soni and his wife, creative director Nivedita Basu, The channels too were represented: Aparna Pandey from Zoom, Sony's Gursheel Walia, and as mentioned earlier the likeable Anupama Mondloi. Shockingly, no one senior from Star or Zee was visible to the Tellychakkar team.

The senior crowd was represented Deepak Parasher, Kailash and Aarti Surendranath, Madhuri Bhatia, Dolly Thakore, Bharati Acherakar, Sushmita Mukherji, Mita Vashist, Vikram Kapadia, and singer Sapna Mukherji.

The highlight of the evening was when one of the older totally sloshed TV actresses and pulled yesteryear film heroine friend's hair and asked her who she was. The film actress turned around and told her she was sick and frustrated. The altercation went on for a while close to the elevator before the older actress was sent packing home. Ekta too joined in the fun later with the film heroine and she indulged in some boisterous girlie banter.

The party continued till the wee hours of the morning and when the Tellychkkar.com team left it looked like it had a lot of life in it. Ekta, you rock! Keep going!

Dudes of tellydom….served hot!

Gone are the days when 'only' the stars of the big screen, the Khans and the Kapoors, were tagged as the hottest men in town. The recent boom in the television industry has made such a remarkable impact on it's viewers that it wouldn't be a surprise to find a poster of aapna tv star in one's bedroom. Amongst them too, are a select few who have a winning streak in them and have carved a niche for themselves.

We at Tellychakkar.com present to you these hot n happening telly stars….

PS: It's sheer co-incidence that all these actors got their share of name and fame via K factor, Balaji Telefilms.

Ronit Roy: No one looks so dashing in peppery hair as Mr. Bajaj aka Mihir aka Ronit does. He must be a forty something and is yet is considered a hot and stable star of Balaji camp. He couldn't make it big in Bollywood but it was on television that Ronit found his true calling. Be it Kasauti Zindagi Ki, Kyunki…or a small stint in Sarkaar, he has successfully managed to leave the audience spell bound with his melodramatic performance. Off-screen too, he has equally maintained his reputation and has survived controversies with patience. He has been through thick and thin in life and that maturity reflects in his performance. We are sure with the long run of these K series, Ronit will keep ruling the hearts of his fans.

Rajeev Khandelwal: No other character has been missed so badly as Sujal of Kahin To Hoga. Rajeev shot to instant fame by playing this lover boy role with great intensity. He has a mesmerizing effect on the fairer sex and he would win hands down if contested for the most loved actor in tellydom. His exit from Kahin To… affected both the parties; the show witnessed a fall in TRPs. Following next, Rajeev couldn't help the fate of Time Bomb (Zee) and Deal Ya No Deal (Sony). But the viewers are still anxiously waiting for his upcoming series, Left Right Left (SAB). With the promising promos of this show, we are optimistic that Khandelwal will be back with a bang and will prove to be a lambi race ka ghoda.

Iqbal Khan: What would you call a concoction of stunning looks, towering height, thundering voice and oodles of talent? Iqbal Khan! Girls have been drooling over his taut physique and chiseled looks since the time he has appeared in Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai. The fact that he is already engaged in real life hasn't hampered his romantic image. His presence as Shaurya in Kavyanjali has added to his existing popularity. We think he is one rocking star in the making.

Anuj Saxena: 'Jack of all trades and master of …... no, not none but all, is what describes Anuj Saxena. A doctor, an actor, a producer and a successful entrepreneur…whew! He adorns many caps with quite ease it seems. Though the Kkusums kept changing, Anuj, as Abhay in the show, created consistent impact on telly viewers. He is thirty-seven but still retains the charm of a youngster. An interesting note is that he is hot with the aunties of the forty plus bracket. Coming to his current show, Rishton Ki Dorr, though it has not boosted his career, he still continues to make his presence felt in the industry via his production house, Maverick. His background, go-getter attitude, and ambitions streak makes him the most sophisticated and versatile dude of television.

Eijaz Khan: He lights up the screen with his presence. His charisma never fails to create magic. His saucy looks and cool attitude set him apart. Eijaz Khan, the man in question has created quite a stir with many Balaji shows like, Kavvyanjali, Kahin To Hoga and Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka. And when it comes to stage performances, no one sets it of fire like Eijaz does. He is so refined with his moves that he can put many Bollywood stars to shame. This is one guy, we say, who is the best package to boost even a sagging

Saas, Bahu and Football!

July 7, 2006

So what if India doesn't participate in the Football Fiesta? The country just can't get enough of it!
So what if most matches take place late night, the fanatic fan makes sure he stays up to watch.

And celebrities are no different. Despite erratic and long work schedules, most television stars try to watch the games in Germany.

A couple of days before the France-Italy final, rediff.com spoke to some television stars who are known to work 16 hours days, and asked them which team they are supporting.

Ejaz Khan
Kunal in Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka

I am a big-time football buff. I am very upset to have missed the England-Portugal match due to my shooting schedule. I don't want to miss the final now.

Unfortunately, the television sets in our make-up vans don't have a cable connection, else I could have watched the matches there.

Since I do two daily soaps, I am shooting almost 24 hours a day. I am trying to think of something to tell the producers and escape from shooting on Sunday. I will probably tell them I will die if they don't let me watch the World Cup final!

If France wins, I will be very happy and if Italy loses I will be very sad. In other words, both teams in the final are my favourites.

Natassha, who plays Anjali, started her career in the reverse. She started with films (Yeh Dil, Kuch To Hai) and then moved to television.

"When Balaji narrated the script of Kkavyanjali, I was really excited. It was a grand show and I had a lot of shades to perform. Mine was a purely positive character. Then, I had a double role in it, with negative shades. It's fun to do so much in one character," she says.

Natassha says she does not mind the hectic shooting schedules, as she's a workaholic. "We don't have a bank of episodes so we have to shoot for 16-20 hours a day, and 25-30 days a month. But I enjoy every bit of it," she says.

Like Riva bubber, Natassha started her career as a model. She has featured in ads like Boroplus and Sunsilk.

Her first TV serial was Kabhi Sautan Kabhi Saheli, after which she got film assignments, which includes South Indian films. She had two upcoming films -- Balaji's Koi Aap Sa and Khalid Mohamed's Silsiley.

"I never thought I would get into acting, as my family has no filmi connections. I thought I'd give it a try and gave an audition. When I first entered this industry, I just wanted to make money. Now, I really want to do something in the industry."

Zee gears up to beat Star Plus

By A. L. Chougule
After spending years being number 3, (after being beaten off the number 1 position by Star in 2000) Zee has pulled up its socks, beaten Sony to number two position and since the last six months is challenging Star Plus for the number one slot on television. Though the all day share of Star Plus continues to be twice that of Zee's daily share, Zee however, scored points over the market leader on its 9 to 10 pm time band in the week of May, 37.3 per cent against Star Plus' 37.2 per cent. Though the 0.1 per cent difference is marginal and Star did manage to regain its number one slot, Zee is still celebrating its one-week of glory.

However, Ajay Vidyasagar, Star India's senior vice-president, marketing has a different take on the facts and figures. He explains, "For the week May 28, 06, Star Plus's GRP was 57.25 against Zee's 57.65. However, the right way to look at this is that Star Plus reached 21.3 million people in the Hindi speaking markets in the above-mentioned daytime schedule while Zee reached only 17.9 million people." According to him, Star Plus in reality leads the 9 to 10 pm slot with average ratings of 4.86 against the 3.38 TVR of Zee TV.

But one can't deny the fact that for the last six months, according to TAM data, Zee's day share has gone up from 13.1 to 20 plus. Between 8 and 11 pm, Zee's channel share has almost trebled from 7.2 to around 21. What's more, according to Ashish Kaul, Zee's senior vice-president, corporate brand development, between December 2005 and June 2006, Zee's GRPs (group rating points) have gone up from 136 to 230 whereas Star Plus' GRPs have dwindled from 500-plus to around 480-490.

"A few months ago Zee and Sony were neck-to-neck but we left them behind due to shows like Saath Phere, Kasamh Se and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa." Ajay though denies that Star's GRPs have taken a beating. He says, "If we look at the last eight-week period Star Plus' all-day reach has increased from 38.6 million viewers to 40.3 million.

Ashish doesn't disagree that Star Plus is the leader, but says, "After being the leader to be number 2 is humiliating for us. We have beaten Star Plus once in the 9 to 10 band and we will beat them again." In his opinion Star Plus' prime time strength comes from its 10 to 11 pm band. "It has a formidable presence there, but people are watching Kahani and Kyunki out of sheer habit. We have to create new properties but it can't be done overnight," he admits

Although Star Plus continues to lead the pack of general entertainment channels with overall prime time share, the fact that Zee scored a lead by a whisker for one week has certainly given rise to a lot of speculation regarding the leader's sustaining power

Stubble secret(Hiten-Yug of KA)

Post the leap in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Hiten Tejwani has been sporting a full-grown beard on the show. The actor is also working on Kaisa Ye Pyaar Hai and Kavyanjali. Along with his acting, his beard, too, is getting a fair share of the limelight. When asked how long we will see him sport the beard, he said, "I'm sporting a beard on both my shows. I think I will be keeping it for quite some time."
A little birdie tells us that close friend, Rakshanda Khan talked him into growing a beard. Says Rakshu, "He looks like a bachcha without his beard. I like his current look in Kyunki; I am glad it's getting a positive response."
