I'm sari,' she said

Pia of Kasamh Se wants to go traditional and detests her forced western look in the show

Sapana Patil Poojary

Roshni Chopra, who plays the petite Pia of Zee TV's Kasamh Se is so taken in by her make-over (for an episode in the show) that she has decided to dump her on-screen western image for a more traditional Indian look.

The actress was given a sari to wear for a wedding sequence. And ever since, she has been insisting to shoot only in saris. However, the producers refused her demand as the sari-clad look would be a stark contrast to her character—that of a middle-class, fashion-conscious girl who aspires for an extravagant lifestyle. Invariably, Roshni had to agree to stick to the original look, but has added her own touch to it.

"It's true that I don't want to wear western outfits anymore. When I saw myself in a sari, I just loved it. Saris make me feel feminine and sensuous. But my character in Kasamh Se is that of a modern girl, so saris are no-no," she says. "However, I feel that one can be equally modern in a sari too. You can wear saris with halter-necked blouses for a contemporary look. But Sandiip Sikcand, the creative head of the show believed that saris didn't suit the role. He is the boss and I believe in him."

So Roshni is back to wearing skirts again, but a tad differently. "Usually, maasi (Ekta Kapoor's aunt Nim Sood who designs costumes for Balaji actors) designs my clothes. But this time, I thought, I'll do it myself. I have picked up stuff from Delhi, Goa and Mumbai. These are long skirts, simple yet stylish. Though the skirts are trendy, I miss wearing saris. I can only wear them during a party sequence.

I am a cool guy'
Basking in the glory of his success on the small screen, Hiten Tejwani talks to Pallavi Kharade about his work and married life
Times News Network

HE indeed has an enviable career graph, being one of the most popular guys on television today. Girls go ga-ga over his good looks, his smile and his boyish charm sends girls drooling. He might be Vishal, Mit, Pratham or Karan, any character that he has portrayed has a huge fan following. It is a dream come true for this talented actor, who basks in the glory of his unprecedented fame and popularity. Making big bucks and of course, having as his life partner one of the most talented women on television, Gauri Pradhan, his life stands unparalleled sending many invidious. After working in a number of serials like Kutumb, Naam Gum Jayega, Kya Haadsa Kya Haqueeqat, Kahin Kissee Roz, Kkusum and Kkaavyanjali, actor Hiten Tejwani has carved out a niche of his own on the small screen. He loves working on the small screen instead of just running around trees in Bollywood.
My favourite character
Karan is my favourite character, it has different shades attached to it, and it gives me the satisfaction of playing multiple roles. I get to do so much, while playing just one character. Also, I believe that there is no point in portraying any character if you do not derive satisfaction out of it. Karan's character has given me immense gratification.
Bollywood?
Although, I have worked in two Bollywood movies like Krishna Cottage and Joggers Park, now I would accept a movie only, if there is a substantial role, big banner and scope to perform. I like to do movies, where I would have scope to showcase my acting talent. Even if the character is not the main lead, but is performance-oriented, I would love to do the role. I want to work with talented directors like Ram Gopal Varma and also with the new directors who are ready to experiment and explore new horizons. I am not comfortable running around trees. Presently, I am not doing any movies because I haven't got the kind of offers I would prefer. But, I don't have any regrets about it, in fact I am quite happy doing TV.
I am a cool guy
Although, I have replaced actor Eijaz Ahmed in Kkusum and Kkaavyanjali, we are on good terms and we have nothing against each other. In fact, I am comfortable with everyone in the industry and you will never get to hear anything against me. I believe, as we all have to work within the same industry, it is pointless to have arguments or petty fights. I am cool about everything.
Work is worship
In the last five years, I have done almost all kinds of role, still I am not bored with my work. I think if one loves one's work, it will never be boring.
Reinvigorating self
Whenever, I feel the need to refresh myself, I work out or play a game of squash. I also like to go to parties with Gauri. I think partying is also good for unwinding.
Gauri and I
The best part of our relationship is that Gauri and I understand each other very well. We also understand each others work load and work demands. Although, both of us have our fan followings, we never get jealous. Interestingly, I have lots of female fans and Gauri has a number of male fans, but it never created any rift in our relationship. We know that it's part and parcel of the industry! We love each other and we know that we will never cross the line. As far as our onscreen chemistry is concerned, people have seen that we share a great onscreen chemistry.
Courting food
Although, I am a major foodie, I eat each and every vegetables unlike Gauri who has certain food habits. When I was small, my parents made me eat everything, which is the reason I am not fussy about food. In fact, initially Gauri used to be very surprised that I ate vegetables like Baigan and Bhindi, but now she herself has started eating them, because of me. I love fish so much that you can say I am a fishetarian.

Ekta's Bengali fixation
By: Upala KBR
June 22, 2006

Ekta Kapoor
On August 7, Ekta Kapoor will launch her new serial, Kasturi on Star Plus. The new daily soap drama will be based on the life of a simple girl, Kasturi Chatterjee, who gets married to a boy from a rich Marwari family.

Kahaani Kasturi ki

Says Ekta says, "Kasturi is about a small town girl living on the outskirts of Kolkata. It's an interesting, warm love story spanning generations with a traditional yet modern approach."

Ekta promises that this poor girl-rich boy love saga will be different from Balaji's other shows, "There is freshness as far as the characterisation goes. Kasturi is a simple girl next door who has very small demands from life and comes from a very poor family. She gets married into a rich family.

The line of the serial goes — 'Everyone should have a dream as dreams come true, but be careful about what you dream as dreams come true...' The peg of the show after the 18th episode does a 360-degree turn."

Romancing Kolkata

The show will be shot in Kolkata, Ekta reveals, "We will shoot in one of the havelis out there and at Kalighat and Howrah Bridge. I had last shot for Kahani Teri Meri and Kasautii Zindagii Kay in Kolkata. The Bengali connection has happened once again."

The cast of Kasturi hasn't been finalised yet, but auditions are on right now, "Though Kasturi Chatterji will be a fresh face, you can look forward to an assortment of fresh faces and some very powerful well-known actors."

Strong screenplay

Kapoor hopes that Kasturi will click with the masses, as she feels they are the prime targets for a show like this, "Because the serial has a very strongly rooted screenplay which will hit home with the aam janta. In spite of having grand sets, we will keep the show as real as possible. Kasturi will be realistic and simple like Kkusum."

What's with the Bengali obsession? First the Basus in Kasautii and now the Chatterjees in Kasturi. Ekta laughs, "Yes. What to do? The Roys — Ronit Roy and Moni Roy (Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) and Bengalis have become a permanent fixture in my life. They are in my kundalis

"I am fed up with the 'Just Friends' relationship"

I can't understand when two stars go out together everywhere, in every occasion, in every party, in every award function, and when are questioned about their relationship they say they are 'just friends'. Lets take up this with handsome Eijaz Khan, the male lead who earlier played Kavya, and now plays Soham in the Star Plus hit drama serial KavyAnjali, when asked about his relationship with co-star Anita Hassanandani (earlier known as Natassha), he just says we are 'good friends' and the same with Anita. Lets elaborate more on the 'Just Friends' term. 'Just Friends' are seen in every party together getting cozy, 'Just Friends' are present in every award function, 'Just Friends' remains close in KavyAnjali sets, Anita was always there for Eijaz at Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka sets, she was also there when Eijaz was hospitalized. And yet they say they are 'Just Friends'!. I am sure that there's more in their relationship which they dont want to share with us, but, we'll find it out soon. If this was 'Just Friends' with Eijaz and Anita, what will be 'love' to them?

This is ektas new interview in the gm magazine.it is a short one column interview.

by parineeta chaterjee

Your serial kyunkii post leap has got immense heavy trps.any forthcoming serial in the pipeline?

there are four new serials coming up.3 on star plus and 1 on star one.while karbon kopy on star one is still in the development processes, kasturi, garima and kis rishtey se are almost ready, except for the final casting that needs to be done.

what are the main themes of these shows.do u think they will be able to meet up the viewers expectations?

definetily, all these shows are very different from existing balaji shows.kasturi is a fresh love story set in a small town, while kis rishtey se highlights the relationship and rivalry of two sisters who get married in the same house.garima has a very different theme as it deals with the struggle of a young women against the evils of society.

many of your serials have been complete disasters and are being axed?

well they are the result of weak time slots and constant competition by the rival channels.kesar will go off air in july followed by k street in august.even kaisa yeh pyaar hai and Kandy floss will follow.nimmo will enjoy a decent run till october after which it will go off only to be back next june with a brand new concept.

nimmo was a very expensive show with a gem of a star cast.what went wrong?

actually in the beginning it was getting a decent trps of 2 but due to constant competition with the other channels the trps have constantly dropped.this month it has got a shocking trp of 0.95 .even kunal and nimmos sweet love story has not worked.but still im happy.my four prime time shows are working really well.kyunki, kahaani, kasautii and kahiin to hoga are still ruling the charts.

In Ash's footsteps

It looks like actress Anita Hassanandani (who plays the role of Anjali in Kavyanjali) is following Aishwarya Rai's footsteps. Aishwarya's penchant for saris is well-known. And now, Anita is also on her way to being obsessed over the garment. In fact, Anita is acknowleged for her fine selection of saris with intricate designs and embellishments.

"My most expensive purchase to date is a red chiffon sari which I picked up in Delhi. I actually spent Rs 80,000 for it!" she says. All the same, Anita believes that taste doesn't come with a price tag. Her personal choice has helped her have a colourful wardrobe. At the same time, she says, "It's my designer at a suburban store who deserves the credit."

A survey on the best couple

We've got the hottest gossip with us on this weekend. We wen't to Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad to find what's up with their lifestyle. We have found that people over there are having posters of their favourite stars in their living rooms!. Star Plus is ruling over there, we have found. We have also found that a girl died cause she didn't got to watch KavyAnjali. We've seen a woman getting latest Ba's(Tulsi's) style, even when she's 29. We also had a survey over there about the happening pair on, ruling Star Plus. From the survey we have found:

KavyAnjali : 80%

Mihir Tulsi : 10%

SummitKumkum : 6%

Sujal Kashish : 4%

From a wide margin, KavyAnjali leads. We asked the reason why they loved KavyAnjali? And what we heard? 'I love Kavya!' 'KA kya jodi hai' 'Eijaz is cool' 'Anjali bahut pyari hai'.

What about the Kashish Sujal jodi? 'New Sujal didn't clicked' is the answer we heard.

I hope you people like this tellygossip. Maybe Ekta Kapoor should take notice on the other shows now.
