Transcript of LIVE CHAT with TV actress, Sushmita Mukherjee at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 in Mumbai

Sushmita Mukherjee
TV actress

"Let me clarify that the late Keshto Mukherjee was not my father. The misconception started way back when people started thinking that his son (actor) Babloo and I bear a resemblance together with a common surname."

Rahul_delhise > Tell me, do you remember those famous dialogues from the serial Karamchand (20 years ago) - "Sir, you are genius and "Shut up Kitty?"
Sushmita Mukherjee > Yes of course. I will never be allowed to forget it and thank god for that!

Rahul_delhise > Have Laluji and Rabri Devi seen your serial Ramkhilavan CM and Family ? Have you received any compliments from them?
Sushmita Mukherjee > The compliment if any was a nonbailable arrest warrant thrown in on us to express Lalu and Rabri's deep anger at our portrayals.

Keki > Hi, how have you managed to survive in TV industry for over two decades? And how are you combating competitions from the much younger generation today?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Good question. I think a deep desire to give my 100 percent, focussed towards achieving it and a commitment to a craft that I love whole-heartedly. To keep abreast with the new, one has to hone one's body, mind and spirit to the changing scenario.

Rahul_delhise > Why have you always preferred comic roles although you did well in a serial Kab Tak Pukarun ?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Thank you. I personally think Kab Tak Pukaron, a serial that I also produced, had one of my most favourite characters. It was actually not my preference to stick to any one genre but actors sometimes don't have that choice. Personally, I am very happy doing emotional roles.

Ehaabnz > When will the serial Kkavyanjali come to end?
Sushmita Mukherjee > It has only just begun. Why are you in a hurry for it to end?

Lili > What differences do you see in television industry as opposed to when you made your debut on TV?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Lots of differences. The first difference is at that point the emphasis was on WHAT WAS BEING SAID. Today it is more on HOW IS IT BEING SAID. Then, there was emphasis storyline characterisation, the scripts were given well in advance and the director had a worldview. Today, industry is market driven. It is ruled haphazardly by glamour and glitter with less emphasis and little passion about what is being said and with multiple directors.

Magic > Please tell us something about your dad – the great actor Keshto Mukherjee. Do you miss his presence?
Sushmita Mukherjee > May I clear it finally and forever that the late Mr. Keshto Mukherjee was not my father. I have been raised in Delhi and my father was a government servant. The misconception started way back when people started thinking that actor Babloo Mukherjee, who is Keshto Mukherjee's son and I bear a resemblance together with a common surname.

Clod > Hi Sushmita. Do you think that you would have done much better if you had joined TV now than 21 years ago?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Good question. No, I would have not survived today's scenario, had it not been for my earlier training.

Rahul_delhise > How did you get your first break in Karamchand ?
Sushmita Mukherjee > I was rehearsing for a play with Pankaj Kapoor who had already been cast as Karamchand when Pankuj Parashar, the director saw me and instantly casted me.

Prashanthatvwebsol > In what kind of movies would you prefer to act?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Movies that reflect the present scenario, which reflect man's eternal spirit. And a movie through which one can go back home with a special feeling.

Sush > Did you always want to be an actress?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Yes, as far as I can remember. When I was three, I used to be a solo entertainment package for my grandmother.

Ahmedmf > When is your birthday?
Sushmita Mukherjee > 20 th of August.

Rahul_delhise > Why don't you play roles like "Tulsi" and "Parvati" in saas-bahu sagas? How much do you think these serials are close to reality?
Sushmita Mukherjee > First of all, I should be invited to play those roles. Secondly, art stems from reality and hence it's popularity and identifiability.

Mekia > Sushmita, you are a brilliant actress - an absolute genius and soooo versatile! Personally, what role would you like to play and why? Is it comedy that you like the most?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Thank you so much. Actually, I just love acting and so the genre is not important as long as I can communicate the character from the depth of my heart, be it comedy, tragedy or emotional role. But, at the end of the day, after doing a comic role, one does feel light and happy.

Heena > Why don't we see you on Page 3 of publications Sushmita? Do you like to keep a low profile?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Because I think my priorities have shifted from all the principles of page to Page 1, which is home and family. And of course, work.

Aarti_4u > Hi Sushmitaji. How are you? Thanks for coming for chat. Which is your favourite perfume? And favourite place outside of India?
Sushmita Mukherjee > I am fine, thank you. How are you? Eternity by Calvin Klien is my favourite perfume. I am yet to visit that (place) which is Greece.

Ahmedmf > What's your email address?
Sushmita Mukherjee > sushmukherjee2004@yahoo.co.in

Rahul_delhise > Did you receive any indecent proposal during your struggling period?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Only once and it took me a long time to realise that it was an indecent proposal. But once I understood, I was rock steady and firm.

Kiran > Is this (CHAT) all prerecorded messages?
Sushmita Mukherjee > No, it's a LIVE CHAT!

Rahul_delhise > Don't you think that your style of acting resembles that of Sridevi?
Sushmita Mukherjee > I take that as a compliment. I am a huge fan of hers. But, as far as I am aware, I don't copy any body's style.

Mehak > You have achieved so much. What more do you want to achieve? Where do you go from here? Would you start making movies like your husband?
Sushmita Mukherjee > Good question again. I am happy that you think I have achieved a lot. Frankly, I feel I have just begun and have miles to go before I sleep. I am publishing my first book soon. It's a collection of short stories and is yet untitled. So, please wish me luck. I think I would start making movies once my children are a little grown up.

Sign Off Message > My heartfelt Shubhechaa (good wishes) and love to all for logging in. Love, Sushmita Mukherjee.
