Darshan Jariwala's new theatrical production 'Your Place or Mine' brought to the city by HSBC and to be staged at Tagore Theatre on Friday evening promises to shake up a few well established notions on the man-woman relationship, albeit with a few laughs and a tidy pinch of salt thrown in for good measure.

Boasting of an able cast comprising the feisty theatre, film and television actor Kitu Gidwani, Tarun Khanna and Kavita Rathod, it is Darshan's way of creating "believable characters that can be taken home" instead of, "the string of one-liners" that comedy has degenerated into. "Even the most serious and intense themes can become substance for comedies and though my play does not have a traditional happy ending but the thoughts and aspirations of the four characters deal with the man-woman relationship in a light way," he avers.

He waxes eloquent about being on stage. "As a medium it affords maximum play of characterisation and despite the tremendous distractions all around us still has the power to pull people out of their homes, make them sit for hours and soak in the story unfolding live before their eyes," smiles Darshan.

For Kitu theatre has provided her with her biggest highs but a growing disenchantment with what was happening on theatre made her take a hiatus from this as well as television where she was reigning supreme. Her last play was a production in London by Bapsi Sidhwa (author of Ice Candy Man) in 2003 but now she claims she is back.

Plays, films — a typical Hindi film 'Dil De Diya' — where she plays the wife of an ex-don essayed by none other than Mithun Chakrabarty, another 'Saas-Bahu' serial in the offing after her stint in 'Kesar', she is all set for another ride in the world of entertainment.

What makes her take on a role? "The sense of truthfulness in a character comes across while reading the script, I think that works for me," she explains.

Finally for both of them, it finally comes down to "giving a choice to the audience to see something different despite the occasional knocks that come of experimentation."

The workshops will feature a team of prominent celebrities, who will not only actively encourage the youth to not use tobacco, but will also set a positive example about how living a healthy lifestyle contributes to is good looks, success and making lots of money!

The aim is to get the message out that "Smoking and Gutkha is not cool (or Kool)." In the workshops, there will also be presentations graphically highlighting the adverse health effects of tobacco use.

Maahi Ve is a daily saga of two generations of two Jagirdar families seeped in emotions as diverse as love and enmity. It is also a unique tale of two girls – Preeto & Seebo, who come from a modest middle class background and live in Mumbai.

However a journey to Punjab on 5th December 2005 at 9.00 pm changes her life forever.
The story is largely posited in Ludhiana, the heart of Punjab and another track of the story is placed in Mumbai. In Ludhiana, Thakur Vir Singh and Thakur Bikram Singh were once childhood friends. But, eventually, certain turn of events transpire their friendship into hostility. Preeto, the daughter of Inderjit and Shibani is the main protagonist of the story. It is the journey of Preeto who feels the need to discover the joy of relationships but an unplanned journey to Punjab leads to a new beginning for her.

It's wrap up time for Maahi Ve




Sab's Maahi Ve will go off air on 11 May. The show starring Karishma Randhawa and Vikram Acharya will be replaced by Rose Audio Visuals' widely awaited, Twinkle Beauty Parlour which will be on air from 15 May.
" I was informed about the wrap us so that I could sign other shows."- Karishma Randhawa

Karishma Randhawa the lead of the show says, "We will certainly be wrapping up soon. It's going to be a happy ending for me and Vikram, as we get married to each other."

Randhawa was informed a month back that the show was going to wind up. She adds, "I am definitely very sad about it and have stopped shooting five days back. My producer had told me that I can take on another project as Maahi Ve will be going off air soon."

Binaifer Kohli, co producer of the show was away in Paris and was unable to comment on the issue.

Priya Mishra, programming head SAB, confirms, "Well, it was planned that way, it's not abrupt ending."

But Tarun Khanna, who plays Kuljeet has a different story to offer. "Well, I will certainly miss everyone, as we shared an amazing rapport. It did start off well, but later turned out to be a total mis-match.

There was scope for it to do well, but the show at one point become something that I had never expected it to be! I don't know where did it lack, where the execution of the story, or what," sighs Tarun. This is not all the actor also says, "There were certain people on the set who didn't take work seriously, and wanted to do things for the heck of it."

Interestingly, not so long ago, Maahi Ve had plans of shifting from Sab to Sony. Sources say that the shift didn't happen due to financial issues.

Maahi Ve will be replaced by Twinkle beauty Parlour which will be followed by, DJs' Left Right Left.
