CHAPTER 25
Heer stood in Lalit uncle's cabin at Juneja Hotel Headquaters. Gayatri, Prem, Preet, and Heer were all there with Lalit sitting in his chair. The Juneja men were all dressed in sharp suits. Today, Prem will be presenting to the board members as future CEO of Juneja Hotels. He will put forth his ideas and the direction he would want to lead the empire to.
The family decided that they will put forward a united front after the whole adoption scandal. This will show everyone, blood or not, Prem was the heir to Juneja Hotels.
Prem was nervous. Heer was able to tell with his demeanor. He was awfully quiet...and his posture was stiff...tense.
"It's time for the meeting." Lalit said, and stood up. One by one, they exited the cabin to walk to the conference room.
As Lalit, Gayatri, and Preet exited the cabin, Heer reached out for Prem's hand and stopped him. He turned and gave her a curious look. He was wearing a grey suit that fitted him to the T. He looked sharp...every bit the business tycoon. Heer reached out, and straightened out his tie. The tie wasn't crooked, but Heer felt herself wanting this moment with him before the big meeting.
Prem stared at Heer, not saying anything. The simple gesture was so sweet. His heart soared. Every time Heer reached out to him...his heart soared.
"Good luck today..." Heer said, looking up at Prem. "Aur yaad rakna...tum Prem ho...Prem Juneja. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise." She said, giving him encouragement.
Prem smiled as his tense shoulder's loosened. He reached out for Heer's hand, lifted it to his lips, and placed a gentle kiss on her knuckles. "Thank you..." Prem murmured, holding on to Heer's hand for a little while longer. She knew that he was nervous, and those were the exact words he needed to hear to dissolve his tension.
When they entered the conference room together, Prem was still holding on to Heer's hand. Heer gave his hand one final squeeze and let go. As Prem walked to the front of the conference room, Heer stood next to Preet.
As Prem faced the board members, ready to start his presentation, Heer murmured to Preet, "I'm a little nervous..."
"Don't be Bhabi...PB was made for this..." Preet replied, watching his big brother, "He'll slay them."
And slay he did. Prem Juneja blew away the board members with his presentation. He spoke about expanding the business to other parts of the world, how to cater to the crowd keeping the different cultures in mind, how to maintain the luxury. He may not have been born a Juneja, but he sure knew how to run the business as one. Anyone who had doubts about Prem's capabilities as the future CEO was eating their words.
When the presentation ended, Lalit went up to Prem and hugged him, extremely proud of his son. A few board members shook Prem's hand and officially welcomed him into the team. Since Prem was still finishing his studies, he will come to Juneja Hotels on the weekends and learn the ropes. A few more people shook his hands and introduced themselves.
Amongst the craze, Prem looked passed everyone and saw Heer standing towards the back of the room, giving him a wide smile. He grinned back at her. He felt accomplished, like he took his first step into earning this role that was gifted to him by his parents. And the icing on the cake was that Heer was there, looking at him proudly.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That night, Prem closed one of the many files his father handed him and leaned back in his chair. He was currently in his study room. After the meeting, the Juneja family came back home and Prem asked for the files to various Juneja Hotel locations. He went straight to his study and started reviewing the ins and outs of each location.
It's been a couple of hours since he started working. His suit jacket and tie was tossed over one of the seats and he had his shirt sleeves rolled to his elbows. He tirelessly worked, only taking a break to eat, and didn't realize that it was almost midnight.
Just that moment, Heer entered the study and placed a cup of coffee in front of him.
Grateful, Prem thanked her and took a sip of the much needed caffeine. Heer leaned on the side of his study table and looked at the scattered paperwork and files. "Almost done?" Heer asked.
"Hmm...Almost..." Prem replied, "Just a few more files to go."
"How much longer do you think it'll take?" Heer asked casually.
Prem contemplated, "Maybe an hour? Maybe two? Why?" he asked.
He saw Heer give a quick glance at the piano and understood. "You can play if you want...I don't mind." Prem said, smiling when Heer gave him a surprised look.
How did he know? How did he always know what she was thinking? Her fingers were itching to play but she knew he was working in here and didn't want to bother him.
"No...I know you are busy..." Heer began to protest.
"Heer...don't be silly." Prem said, brushing her off, "This room is yours too...and I like hearing you play...I don't mind." He said, smiling.
Heer looked at the piano and then back at Prem, "Are you sure?" she asked again, hesitantly.
Prem gave her a sweet smile, "Yes..." a naughty glint then entered his eyes, "I can tolerate you for an hour." He said smartly, laughing when Heer punched his shoulder.
Not taking any offense, Heer made her way to the piano and sat down. She didn't start playing right away, however. She watched as Prem shuffled some paperwork and tried to find the right words to voice what she was thinking, and figured that simple was best.
"Prem...thank you..." Heer said.
Prem stopped what he was doing and gave Heer a confused look, "For what? For letting you play?" Prem asked.
"No...for letting me help you...for telling me what you were feeling...for...trusting me..." Heer replied, taking Prem off guard. Prem told Heer exactly how he was feeling when the news of his adoption was revealed. He didn't hide anything. He let her comfort him...and he let her help him. She didn't realize how much that meant to her. When Manmeet and she were together...it hurt when he didn't share his problems with her. Manmeet wasn't honest with her about his dilemma, and in the end...that's what ended their relationship.
From then till now, Prem only helped her. And this time around, Heer was able to help Prem too. Prem let Heer help him. And she was grateful for being given this opportunity. She was treated like an equal...and that meant a lot to her.
Prem looked at Heer, his eyes intense. "Mein Manmeet nahin hoon Heer...Tum mere sabse kareeb ho...mein tumse kabhi kuch chupaoonga nahin."
Those words shot straight to Heer's heart. She looked at Prem, his words taking her breath away. She felt her heart swell at those words. He said it so simply...without hesitation...and she believed him. Not trusting herself to say anything back to Prem, Heer simply placed her fingers on the piano keys and started to play.
The sweet tune filled the air and Prem went back to reading. The music surrounded both of them...and it truly was a beautiful moment as Heer played effortlessly and Prem continued to work.
Jugni danced in circles. Her heart was soaring and she expressed her happiness the only way she knew how...by dancing with her whole heart.
"Arre Jugni tu pagal ho gayi hai kya!?" A lady wearing rajasthani attire yelled at the woman in question. Jugni ignored her and continued to spin, her black gaghra twirling around her, the working on the skirt glinting under the pale moonlight.
"Arre Jugni!" Another lady yelled.
Jugni stopped and laughed, feeling the rush of blood in her veins. These women will never understand...they will never understand this feeling.
"Aaj mein dil khol keh nachoongi!" Jugni yelled, "Aaj pehli baar...Prem deewani neh apne saiyyan ke liye mohabat ka pehla ehsaas mehsoos kiya. Aaj pehli baar...woh apne dil ki dadhkan samaj rahi hai. Woh samaj rahi hai...ke mohabat sirf ek doosre ka saath nahi hai...mohabat izzat hai...ek doosre ke liye izzat...ishq ek mannat hai...apne saiyyan ko humesha kush dekhne ki mannat. Aur pyaar?...Pyaar sachayi hai...joh paani ki taara saaf hai...aur ussme apne saajan ki perchayi humesha dikayi deti hai."
Jugni grabbed her companion by her arms and gave a brilliant smile, "Haan...yeh baat aur hai ke woh ab tak yeh samaj nahin paa rahi hai ke usse ishq hua hai. Woh pagli toh sirf ek rishta nibha rahi hai. Lekin woh yeh nahin jaanti...ke prem ka asli rang kitna gehra hota hai...aur woh rang jab dil pe chade ga naa...toh woh deewani apne aap ko rok nahin paye gi..."
CHAPTER 26
Mann Mansion was in utter chaos. Tonight was Preet and Meher's engagement party and the whole house was in a roar trying to complete all preparations.
Preet walked down the hallway carrying trays filled with sweets. As soon as he entered the ballroom, someone called out his name.
"Preet!" Preet turned to see Heer approaching him. "Preet tu mera ek kaam karega?"
"Haan haan babhi...hukum kijiye" Preet replied, placing the tray of sweets at a nearby table.
Smiling at the new endearment, Heer instructed Preet to check on the floral arrangements at the main staircase.
"Please go check on it Preet. I would do it myself but Meher has to start getting ready soon." Heer said as she exited the ballroom.
As instructed, Preet went to the main staircase to see the flowers still sitting in their baskets. Preet looked around and spotted one of the decorators.
"Oh bhaisaab! Aap kya phool guests aane ke badh lagayenge?" Preet asked.
"Sorry Sir, we'll get to it right away." The decorator said and yelled at a few helpers to start working on the floral arrangements.
In the meantime, Prem helped the DJ set up his equipment. The music selection was all set and ready to go.
"Prem beta!" Prem turned as someone called his name and saw Teji approach him. "Haan Teji maa?" he asked.
"Beta, can you please put this in Heer's room? She wanted to wear this tonight" Teji said, handing Prem a jewelry box. Following orders, Prem made his way to Heer's childhood room. Completely at home, Prem entered Heer's room without knocking...as usual.
Heer jumped in surprise as Prem walked in. "Prem! Why don't you ever knock?" Heer scolded, this argument between them never ending.
Prem placed the jewelry boxes on Heer's bed and gave her an are you kidding me look?'' "Arre...I'm your husband now...ab kya knock karna?" Prem replied and sat on Heer's bed getting comfortable.
Heer opened her mouth to reply back, but didn't have a comeback. Prem did have a point. Shrugging, Heer turned to her closet and looked at the hanging outfits. Confused at which outfit she should wear, Heer pulled out a pretty green colored lehenga and a stunning mauve colored lace sheer sari.
"Prem, tell me which one I should wear tonight." Heer said, holding both outfits up for Prem to see.
Prem looked at the two outfits and then looked at Heer. "Does it really matter? It's not your engagement." Prem reasoned.
"No...but I still have to look presentable. I'm the bride's older sister after all." Heer replied, in a matter of fact tone.
Prem looked into Heer's eyes, his voice turning low, "No matter what you wear..." he began. Heer felt her breath catch, anticipating Prem's next words. "...you will still..." he murmured, his voice turning seductive, "...look fat." Prem finished, and started laughing.
Heer's jaw dropped and she tossed her clothes and lunged at Prem. "Prem! I'm going to kill you!" Heer yelled, jumping on the bed and hitting Prem. He dodged her attacks and continued to laugh. Knowing full well that Prem was not serious, Heer laughed as well as they fought. At one point, Heer started tickling Prem, getting her revenge when she discovered he was extremely ticklish on his stomach.
"Heer!" Prem yelped in between laughs. Heer continued to dig her nails into his stomach, grinning.
Prem was able to grab one of Heer's hands, but Heer laughed and continued to tickle him with her free hand. Prem shifted and was able to grab Heer's free hand and pin her under him. Both were still laughing, the moment so childish. As their laughter died down, their closeness became obvious.
Prem looked down at Heer and suddenly, they both became very aware the position they were in. Heer pinned to the bed with her hands trapped over her head, and Prem's body pressing down on her. The air around them turned hot. Prem didn't think twice...he lowered his head and captured Heer's lips in a heated kiss. Heer kissed back without hesitation. Just as Prem was about to take the kiss a little deeper, a knock on the door interrupted their moment.
Prem rolled off Heer and cursed under his breath. Heer jumped off the bed, straightened her clothes and opened the door. Prem sat up in bed, irritated at the interruption. Ashlesha stood on the other side.
"Heer what's taking you so long!? Meher has to start getting ready." Ash grabbed Heer's hand and started pulling her out the door. Heer glance back at Prem, who was now sitting up on her bed, scowling. Heer gave him an apologetic look and let Ashlesha drag her towards Meher's bedroom. But as Heer walked down the hallway, she bit the inside of her cheek to keep from smiling. Prem's scowling face at being interrupted was too freaking adorable. Heer couldn't help it and a giggle escaped.
"What's so funny?" Ashlesha asked.
"Nothing." Heer simply replied as the girls entered Meher's room.
********************************************************
Heer placed the mang tikka on Meher's head and completed her look.
"Wow Meher, you look stunning!" Ashlesha gushed as she fixed Meher's dupatta. "Preet is going to be floored." Heer added, causing her baby sister to giggle in response.
Heer grinned back. Meher looked at her older sister, her smile wide and her eyes sparkling."You look good too didi...happier..." Meher said, observing Heer's face. She didn't have the dark circles under her eyes anymore...from the restless nights. She smiled more...and those smiles reached her sparkling eyes. It was true...Heer no longer looked like she harbored a broken heart.
Heer smiled down at her younger sister. "I feel better...being married to Prem...it's not as terrible as I thought it would be." Heer replied honestly, the smile staying on her lips as she got a faraway look on her face. It was clear that she was thinking about the man in question.
Meher and Ashlesha shared a look. "Are you in love with him?" Ashlesha asked frankly.
"Oh gosh no!" Heer responded, eyes widening, shocked at the question.
"I don't think I can fall in love again...not like last time anyway..." Heer continued, missing the look that Ash and Meher shared again. "It's...too painful..." Heer replied honestly. "What I have with Prem now is good...there is friendship, support...understanding...and attraction too. But I don't think I can fall in love again." She concluded.
Meher placed a comforting hand on Heer's arm, "Didi...what you have with Prem Bhaiya...can maybe become better than what you had with Manmeet. Don't let fear stop you...and just trust your heart." Meher advised.
"I agree with Meher." Ashlesha added. Seeing that the heavy atmosphere needed some cheering up, Ashlesha gave a naughty smile, "Sooo...attraction huh? Did you guys sleep together yet?" Ashlesha asked bluntly.
"WHAT NO!" Heer gasped at the intrusive question and Meher laughed. "What!?" Ashlesha replied, "I mean...we are your best friends...who else are you going to share the scandalous details with?" She pushed; grinning at Heer's flushed face.
"I did NOT sleep with Prem!" Heer replied, her face burning up in embarrassment. Ash and Meher simply stared at Heer and Heer glared back, which didn't affect the former two girls at all.
Heer sighed and muttered, "We just kissed..."
Meher and Ash squealed and showered Heer with questions. What? Where? How? Is he good? Does he have moves? Was it soft? Was it hot?''
"STOP!" Heer yelled, trying to stop the bombardment of questions. "We don't have time for this! Guests will be arriving soon and I still need to get ready." With that said, Heer made her way out the room, ignoring Ashlesha and Meher's protests.
Ashlesha and Meher watched the door close behind Heer. "100 bucks says that Heer falls in love with Prem by the end of three months." Ashlesha said with a straight face.
"Hmmm..." Meher considered the bet, "Prem bhaiya is no ordinary guy...I say 2 months." Meher replied, and the girls shook on it.
*****************************************************
Heer entered her bedroom and the first thing she noticed was the mauve lace and sheer sari she took out earlier. It was neatly folded on her bed with a note on it. The green lehenga from earlier was nowhere in sight. Heer picked up the note and read.
"Jo bhi pehno gi...khoobsurat lago gi. Lekin sari mein tum qaatil lagti ho."
There was no signature on the note, but Heer didn't need a signature to know that Prem left this note for her.
*Flashback*
Prem crossed his arms over his chest and looked Heer up and down. "You wore a sari for the first time...that sari...and you kept a fast for me..." Prem tilted his head in a flirty manner, "qtil karne ka irada hai kya?"
"Prem...tum pagal ho." Heer breathed out, trying to brush him off. She walked around Prem and made her way to the bathroom to change when Prem's voice called out to her again.
"Heer." Prem simply said.
Heer stopped, she didn't turn, but she was listening. She then felt Prem walk up to her and lean over so he could whisper in her ear. "Agar qtil karna ho...toh zara dheere se...dekhna...uff bhi nahin karunga..." Prem whispered into her ear. His voice soft...his words silky smooth...his breath hot on her skin.
*Flashback End*
CHAPTER 27
Mann mansion was bustling with guests. If you were a somebody, you were invited to this engagement party. And why wouldn't this be such a grand affair? The youngest kids of India's top two business tycoons were getting engaged. Guests were mingling and having the time of their lives. It was no secret that any party the Manns or the Junejas held were always the talk of the town.
Preet was dressed in a beige sherwani and looked as handsome as ever. In contrast, Prem looked equally handsome in a baby blue colored sherwani.
"PB...where is Meher?" Preet asked. They were standing side by side earlier, greeting guests until Meher had excused herself for a few moments. She didn't specify where she was going.
In that moment, Heer approached the Juneja men. "Arre dever ji, Meher ke saath toh puri zindagi pari hai...thoda sabr rakiye." Heer teased. Prem looked at Heer from head to toe, his eyes taking in her form inch by inch. She wore the sari, and as expected, Heer looked stunning. Like...stopping the heart stunning...Qatil...
"Babhi aisa nahin chalega!" Preet whined, "...shaadi ke badh apko mera side lena padega. Prem bhai humesha Meher ka side lete hai." he said, huffing like a little kid.
Heer giggled and turned to say something to Prem, but the look he was giving her stopped her words. There was nothing innocent in the way Prem was looking at Heer. In fact, Prem was wondering what Heer would do if he grazed his teeth over her milky white collar bone.
Preet felt the sexual tension spark between Prem and Heer. He looked from his big brother to his sister-in-law and tried to cover his grin. It seemed like Prem and Heer forgot that he was standing there with them.
Preet cleared his throat and Prem and Heer jolted back to reality. "Mein yahaan kya kar raha hoon? Mein jaata hoon." Preet said in a teasing tone and turned to leave.
"No!" Heer yelped and grabbed on to Preet. "I know where Meher is...come with me." Heer then turned to Prem and said to him shyly, "You too...", and with that Heer lead the Juneja brothers to where the elders were standing.
"Arre Heer, why did you bring us all here?" Teji asked, a little confused as to why Heer started guided all of them to the ballroom.
The guests started gathering in the ballroom as well, whispering amongst each other wondering what was going on.
"App sab ke liye surprise hai." Heer said cryptically, "Preet...khaas kar ke tumhare liye." She said, and on cue, the lights to the ballroom went out and a spotlight was put on the grand staircase.
Meethi Meethi...Baatan Karke
Chand Mulaakataan Karke
A lady wearing a white sari had her back to the audience. When she turned, it was Meher, looking stunning...as a bride-to-be should. She sang as she came down the staircase.
Meethi Meethi Baatan Karke
Chand Mulaakataan Karke
Dilasa De Gaya
Dil Maahiya Lay Gaya
Ashlesha and Heer joined Meher and all three ladies started dancing to the tune as Meher sang. She pointed at Preet and then to her heart and did a graceful spin. Ashlesha and Heer danced just as gracefully and supported Meher.
O Rabba Mera Dil Maahiya Lay Gaya
Dil Maahiya Lay Gaya...O Raaba mera
Dil Maahiya lay gaya...
Preet gave a sweet smile as he watched his lady love dance. Prem bumped his shoulder with Preet, teasing his younger brother. The elders looked on at their kids, big smiles adorning all of their faces. It was so sweet to see their children so in love.
O Sili Sili Raaten Katti Nahi Hai
Yeh Duuriyan Kyon Mit Ti Nahi Hai
Nazdeekiyon Mein Bhi Faasalen Hai
Betaabiyon Kyon Katt Ti Nahi Hai
Meher reached Preet and danced around him. Preet had a huge smile on his face the whole time. He reached for Meher and she went into his arms, letting him hug her. The crowd applauded for the sweet couple.
O Rab Teri Meher Jo Ho Jaaye
Meri Zindadi Bhi Sanvar Jaaye
Yeh Mera Ishq Nikhar Jaaye...O mahiya...hai...
Meher then pulled away and went to the middle of the room. She was joined by Heer and Ashlesha again and the ladies danced to the words of the song and the tune. They moved their hips to the beat, their movements soft...beautiful smiles adorning their pretty faces.
Meethi Meethi Baatan Karke
Chand Mulaakataan Karke
Dilasa De Gaya
Dil Maahiya Lay Gaya
O Rabba Mera Dil Maahiya Lay Gaya
Ashlesha and Heer pulled Meher and sat her down next to Preet. Prem brought the rings and placed them in front of the couple.
Akhh Da Ishaara Chal Kar Lay Tu
Chori Chori Dil Ki Gal Kar Lay Tu
Preet and Meher exchanged the rings. Preet lifted Meher's hand and kissed it, giving her a loving look. Flower petals cascaded from above and showered the new couple.
Akhh Da Ishaara Chal Kar Lay Tu
Chori Chori Dil Ki Gal Kar Lay Tu
Heer looked up as the flower petals fell around them. It was all so beautiful. Seeing her little sister and now her brother-in-law so happy, with the flower petals falling around them...it was all so beautiful. Suddenly, Heer felt butterflies in her stomach. She looked to the side to see Prem gazing at her, his eyes deep...filled with hidden emotions.
Akhh Da Ishaara Chal Kar Lay Tu
Chori Chori Dil Ki Gal Kar Lay Tu
There was that look again. Not the look where you know lustful thoughts were involved. That Heer was able to read. But this look of Prem's, was the one she couldn't quite figure out yet. There was something deeper in his eyes as he stared at her. What was he trying to say?
O Haale Jiya Mein Kaise Bataaun
Ab Toh Bichhauda Seh Nahi Paaun
Heer didn't have a chance to ponder long. Preet led Meher to the dance floor and they danced. On cue, other folks joined the happy couple on the dance floor as well. Meher pulled away and started dancing to the next part of the song.
Tum Hi Tum Ho Meri Dhadkan Mein
Meri Saanson Mein Meri Tadpan Mein
At this moment, a couple of dancers came and spun around the couple. Balraj dragged Lalit to the dance floor as the dhols started playing. The party was now in full swing as the dance floor filled up.
Ho Main Na Jaanu Ki Gal Hain
Haan Pal Pal Mann Mein Hulchul Hain
Heer watched from the side and laughed at her father and father-in-law's antics. Ashlesha grabbed onto Prem and dragged him to the dance floor and they both partied to the banghra beat. Heer's eyes fell on Prem.
He had a huge smile on his face as he danced with Ashlesha. Ashlesha said something and Prem laughed out loud. Heer's breath hitched. Could he look any more handsome?'' Heer thought. It felt to refreshing to see Prem laugh like that, especially after the whole adoption scandal and the added on pressure of becoming CEO.
Mere Iss Dard Ka Tu Hull Hain
Heer felt joy in that moment...pure joy. The sheer power of it surprised her. Seeing Prem so happy, laughing...so carefree. Heer felt that pressure in her chest again...but it was the good kind...and there was no pain in sight. It was just joy.
O Maahiya...Hai...
The realization of it dawned on Heer. Her broken heart was mended...and it was all because of Prem Juneja. He was the reason she wasn't hurting anymore. He somehow...became the solution to her heartache.
Meethi Meethi Baatan Karke
Chand Mulaakataan Karke
Dilasa De Gaya
Dil Maahiya Lay Gaya
Prem turned and his eyes locked with Heer's. He stopped dancing and frowned a little. Heer's eyes were filled with emotion...and a serious look on her face. Concerned, Prem nodded his head up, asking Heer what was wrong.
Heer's eyes softened and a smile bloomed on her pretty face. She shook her head, indicating that nothing was wrong. Prem looked skeptical, but couldn't inquire further because in that moment, Meher grabbed Heer's hand and pulled her to the dance floor.
O Rabba Mera
Dil Maahiya Lay Gaya...
*********************************************
Prem saw Heer talking to a few people across the ballroom. He maneuvered around the crowd and made his way towards her. Something happened with Heer when he was dancing earlier. There was something in the way Heer looked at him in that moment. Heer may have easily brushed it off but he knew her well enough that whatever Heer was thinking, was not nothing. Prem felt giddy in his stomach as he approached Heer. Was she started to fall in love with him too? Was she realizing that their relationship ran deeper than friendship and just sexual tension?
"Prem beta!" Balraj cut Prem's path. "Beta can you please check on the bar, make sure we aren't running low on anything?" Balraj asked.
Prem looked passed Balraj's shoulder at Heer. She was busy talking to a fellow college mate and did not notice Prem trying to reach her. Balraj, completely oblivious to Prem's dilemma, waited for Prem to respond.
Not being able to decline Balraj, Prem nodded and made his way to the bar.
**********************************************
Once he took care of the bar situation, Prem he went in search for Heer again. Once he spotted her, he saw Heer walk in the direction of the ballroom doors. "Heer!" Prem called out to get her attention, but the music was too loud and Heer kept walking.
Prem fastened his pace to catch up, only to get pulled to the side. "Arre Prem beta! Congrats on becoming CEO! Aur bata...kya haal hai?" An elderly uncle slapped Prem's back affectionately.
Prem gave him a polite smile and stretched his neck to see Heer walk out the ballroom doors. Sighing at another missed opportunity, Prem turned to the elderly man and answered his questions politely.
*************************************************
Heer walked out with a tray of sweets and started arranging them on the dessert table. "Heer!" She turned at her name being called and saw Prem approach her.
"Finally! Yaar mein kab se try kar raha hoon tumse baat karne ke liye." Prem huffed out and stood next to Heer.
Heer continued to arrange the sweets in swift, efficient, movements. "Prem bohut kaam hai. Can we talk later?" Heer said, not looking up as she concentrated at the task at hand.
Acting like a stubborn kid, Prem grabbed the sweet tray from Heer's hand, "No. This can't wait."
"Prem! Common!" Heer responded and made a grab for the sweet tray, only to have Prem move it further from her reach. Heer let out a frustrated breath and glared at Prem.
Prem glared back, being just as stubborn. They glared at each other until finally Heer sighed in defeat. "Fine...tell me what's wrong." Heer said.
Prem placed the sweet tray on the table and opened his mouth to speak...when Ashlesha's voice interrupted them.
"Heer! Hurry, Meher needs help with her sari." Ashlesha approached the couple and without waiting, Ash started pulling Heer towards the staircase that led to Meher's bedroom. "Arre..." Prem began to say something, but was cut off.
"Sorry Prem! But it's a bride-to-be emergency!" Ashlesha yelled back as she dragged Heer away from Prem. Prem smacked his hand on his forehead, frustrated. He has the worst luck.
*************************************************
After dealing with Meher's sari situation, Heer exited Meher's room, and felt a hand grab her own.
Turning, Heer came face to face with Prem. Irritation clearly evident on his face; Prem dragged Heer down the hallway so they would no longer be interrupted.
"Prem!" Heer gasped, trying to keep up with Prem's fast pace. Prem stopped in a random hallway, let go of Heer's hand, and turned to face her.
"Prem! What's the matter with you!?" Heer asked, a little annoyed at being dragged like that without a warning.
Frustrated at the constant interruptions, Prem combed a hand through his hair and gave Heer an irritated look. "I'm trying to ask you something...and we keep getting interrupted every five minutes! Arre...aur koi nahin hai kya kaam karne ke liye? Sab log sirf tumhe dhoond rahe hai?" Prem said, aggravated.
Heer's eyebrows drew together as she frowned. Seeing passed the irritation, Heer was able to tell that Prem did want to speak to her about something important. Forgetting her own annoyance, Heer took a step closer to Prem and placed a hand on his arm. "Prem...what did you want to ask me?" Heer asked, patiently this time.
Prem let out a breath and took Heer's hand, the one on his shoulder, into his own large ones. "Heer...when we were downstairs dancing...what were you thinking? And don't pretend that it was nothing." Prem said quickly when he saw Heer getting ready to brush it off again.
Prem held on to Heer's hand tighter, preventing her from pulling away. "Heer...I know you...tum mujhse kabhi jhoot nahin bol sakti." Prem encouraged. When Heer looked into Prem's eyes, his heartbeat increased with anticipation.
Heer didn't know how to put what she was feeling into words. How can she express to Prem that he was the reason behind her happiness? How do you explain to someone that they were the solution to all your sorrows...all your heartbreak? How do you tell someone...that you may never fall in love again...but they were the closest person to your heart now?
Prem caressed the inside of Heer's wrist with his thumb and patiently waited. Heer's eyes were sparking with unsaid emotions. Prem could tell that Heer was trying to put her thoughts into words. What was she trying to say? What was it that her eyes were expressing to him?
Just as Heer opened her mouth to speak, Teji's voice interrupted the couple.
"Heer! Prem! You guys are here and I am searching the whole house for you!" Teji scolded. Prem and Heer stepped away from each other, like they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
"Jaldi neeche chalo...it's time to serve dinner to the guests." Teji said, completely obliviously to what she interrupted. The moment Teji turned to leave; Prem put this thumb and index finger on the center of his forehead, annoyed at being interrupted...again.
When he looked at Heer, she stared back apologetically. Not saying anything, she turned to leave. But before she got too far, Prem grabbed her hand and stopped her.
"Heer...tonight." That was all Prem said, his tone low...his voice deep. Heer felt goose bumps scatter across her body. Those words were so simple, but they held an immense amount of promise.
CHAPTER 28
The guests slowly started trickling down. Around 1:00am in the morning, the Manns and the Junejas bid farewell to the last few guests and as the employees got busy with the cleanup, the two families congregated in the living room to relax. As expected, Preet and Meher's engagement was one of the best celebrations and will be the talk of Mumbai's elite for weeks. And throwing this kind of party was a tiring task.
Prem poured the scotch over ice in two glasses and handed one to his father and the other to Balraj. The four elders where seated on the large couch. Preet and Meher were seated next to each on the loveseat adjacent to the elders, while Ashlesha and Heer where opposite the elders, seated on the settee. Prem decided to sit next to Gayatri's feet on the floor, mainly because this seat was right across from Heer and he didn't have to work hard to steal glances at her.
Heer knew exactly what Prem was doing. She looked at Prem shyly and when their eyes met, she looked away blushing. Prem hid his smile and turned his attention to Preet and Meher's conversation.
"That is such a male chauvinist request. I will not do that!" Meher argued with Preet.
Preet grinned, being the naughty person he is. "Yes you will. I am your future husband and you have to do as I please." Preet teased, pulling Meher's leg.
"What's the request?" Prem asked, confused as to what Preet and Meher were arguing about.
"Prem bhaiya, Preet wants me to make him tea every morning and bring it to him in bed." Meher said, giving Preet a you must be joking look''.
Prem raised his eyebrows at Preet and then replied to Meher, "Don't worry Meher, Preet ko line mein rakhna mujhe aata hai."
Preet gasped dramatically and Meher gave him a victorious look. Everyone else in the room chuckled at the interaction.
"PB you always side with Meher!" Preet complained like a baby and turned to Heer, "Bhabi didn't I tell you? Prem bhai never takes my side!"
"Don't worry Preet...Meher ko line mein rakna mujhe bhi aati hai." Heer replied smoothly, causing Meher's jaw to drop. Preet pumped his fist in the air in victory as laughter broke out amongst the group.
"Acha Mrs. Juneja?" Prem retaliated, "Mein bhi toh dekhun, mere hote hue tum mere saali ko haath kaise lagati ho." Prem challenged playfully, causing Ashlesha to whistle at the challenge. The elders simply laid back and watched the show, laughing.
"That's right didi!" Meher egged on. She then stood up and sat next to Prem, entwining her arm around Prem's arm, "As long as I have my Prem JIJU with me, you can't boss me around." Meher replied playfully. She didn't notice that Prem's playful expression warmed at the endearment. Jiju...it felt nice to hear that.
"Oh ho Jiju ki bachi." Heer said grinning and threw a pillow at Meher, causing another round of laughter to break out.
In that moment, a servant entered the room informing them that the clean up was complete and the event planners were ready leave. Balraj was about to stand up when Heer beat him to it. "You rest papa, I'll go settle the last payment." With that said, Heer exited the room.
"Heer looks happy..." Teji said when she knew Heer was out of ear shot.
Teji then placed a loving hand on Prem's head, causing him to turn in surprise, "Thank you beta...for giving us our daughter back." She said; her eyes emotional. Prem took Teji's hand and gave it a loving peck.
"You can stop worrying about her...I promise to always keep her happy." Prem said confidently.
Balraj gave Prem a proud look. "You know...even when you and Heer always fought...I knew in my heart that no one would be a better life partner for her than you. We are indebted to you Prem." Balraj said, his voice breaking a little with emotion.
"Nahin uncle..." Prem argued, he stood up from his position on the floor and knelt in front of Balraj, "You don't owe me anything. No one is a better life partner than Heer. I'm the one that's lucky...ke mere zindagi mein Heer hai...mujhe aur kuch nahin chahiye." Prem said, his words only making Balraj and Teji more emotional, and Lalit and Gayatri look at their eldest son with immense pride.
"He's in love with her." Preet murmured, so only Meher could hear.
Meher gave Preet a concerned look, "Lekin kya Heer didi jiju ka pyaar pehchaan paye gi?" She asked, remembering that Heer claimed she can never love again just earlier that day.
Preet looked at Meher and completely understood her concern. He didn't want his big brother's heart to be broken either. It was plain to see that Prem was madly in love with Heer...but it was also visible that Heer was scared to fall in love again.
Preet took Meher's hand in his and gave it a comforting squeeze. "I think...everyone here knew in their heart that Prem bhai and Heer babhi were made for each other. Even when Heer fell in love with Manmeet...we all saw that Prem and Heer shared a special connection behind all the bickering. If...for any reason...they can't find their way to each other..." Preet then got a determined look in his eyes, "...you and I will be there to help them; just like they have always been there to help us."
That made Meher smile and she squeezed Preet's hand in return, assuring him that she will be there standing next to him...helping Prem jiju and Heer didi if they ever lost their way.
Late into the night, when everyone started retiring to their rooms to get some much needed sleep; Prem stood on Heer's balcony looking up at the night sky. The stars where sparkling tonight. The moon hid behind a few clouds...the clouds trying their level best to cover her shining light. Prem placed his hands on the railings and admired the night's beauty...and he waited.
*Male Voice*
~Jaane kya woh keh gayi
Aankhon ki basha mein...~
Prem remembered his conversation with Heer. She was trying to tell him something. Her eyes were speaking to him...but what was it? What was she trying to say?
Prem was able to tell that Heer was struggling to find the words to describe what she was feeling. Something changed in the way Heer felt about him. Prem felt it in his heart that something changed...but what was it? What were Heer's eyes telling him...?
*Male Voice*
~Dil mera dole
Asha nirasha mein...~
Prem combed a hand through his hair as he tried to remain patient. Heer needed to do something last minute and that is why Prem was alone in her room at the moment.
His stomach clenched in anticipation. When will she get here? When will he finally get to hold her? Touch her? Love her?
*Male Voice*
~Uss par jaan leva
Yeh thanhayi sajni...~
Prem's hands clenched on the railings. It was hard to pinpoint when he exactly fell in love with Heer. Was it when they were kids? Was it in school when they constantly bickered? Was it when he married her? Was it when he finally made her laugh? He really couldn't say.
But he couldn't imagine being without her now. Prem didn't realize...how lonely he was without Heer. He felt incomplete every time she was away from him.
This feeling...this loneliness...grabbed his heart as he waited.
*Female Voice*
~Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Ohhh
Dheeraj dar teri...aayi re aayi sajni...~
Heer walked down the hallway and switched off the lights. Her heart did a little flip as she got closer to her bedroom...knowing who was waiting for her. She still didn't know what she was going to tell Prem...but she couldn't help but be drawn to him. It's like there was an unknown force that pulled her to him...and she couldn't fight it.
*Female Voice*
~Aaye bina teri
Reh nahi paayi sajni...~
Heer walked until she stood outside her bedroom door. Her heartbeat quickened. How did Prem become so important to her? How did he go from being her annoying childhood nemesis to the person who took all her pain away?
She didn't know what she was feeling for Prem, but she knew that she couldn't help but be drawn to him. Heer took a deep breath and reached for the door knob.
*Male Voice*
~Ho Oh Oh Oh
Aane se tere chaandni si chaayi sajni...~
Prem felt his heart skip a beat. She was here...and right that moment, he heard the bedroom door knob turn. He looked back and in walked Heer...stunningly beautiful.
Their eyes locked...and the clouds moved to let the moon shine in all her glory. The moonlight bounced off the balcony and crept into the dimly lit bedroom.
Prem and Heer walked towards each other until they met in the center of the room. Heer stared at Prem...he was just so handsome...but it was the way he was looking at her that pulled at her heart. It was like he was looking at the most precious thing in the world.
Heer couldn't help herself. She closed the distance between them and kissed Prem. It wasn't crazy and hot...but it was soft and sweet, just like she intended it to be.
When she pulled back, Prem had his arms around her waist and held her close.
"I forgot what I was going to ask you..." Prem said, causing Heer to giggle.
Heer linked her hands around Prem's neck and let him hold her. A few moments passed by in silence with Prem and Heer simply enjoying each other's presence.
This time when Heer pulled back, she knew that she needed to voice what Prem was so patiently waiting for.
~Yeh naram naram nasha hai, badhtajaaye
Koi pyaar se ghungatiya deta utaaye...~
"I...I realized something tonight..." Heer began, trying to formulate the right words. Prem kept silent, giving Heer the time she needed.
Heer took a deep breath and spoke, "I realized tonight that...I'm happy...I'm finally happy." There you go...she said it. "I realized that...I'm not heart broken any more...and that you were the reason behind that. I never imagined us...being together...like this...but it feels right...this feels right." Heer said softly.
~Ab baawra hua mann jag ho gaya hai roshan...~
The air in the room stirred and the stars sparkled outside in joy. Heer placed her hands on his face as he looked at her intensely, "Prem...tum sirf dost nahin...mere dil ke sabse kareeb ho. Mein nahin jaanti ke mein kabhi phirse pyaar kar paogi ya nahin...lekin iss pal mein...tum mere dil ke sabse kareeb ho..." Heer murmured, bearing her soul to him.
~Yeh nayee nayee suhaagan ho gayee hai teri jogan
Koi prem ki pujaarun mandir sajaaye...~
Prem sighed at her words. He took her hands from his face and brought them to his lips, kissing them. She'll fall in love again, with time...she will fall in love just like he has. But for right now...Prem was happy with Heer's words...because she was the closest person to his heart too.
~Saiyyan...~
Prem encircled Heer's waist and she rested her hands on his chest. They simply looked at each other...their silence speaking volumes. Prem then leaned in for another sweet kiss as he gently started undressing her. Heer followed suit and started unbuttoning his kurta.
~Saiyyan...~
Prem placed a soft kiss on her exposed shoulder, and slowly tugged the sari down, his lips following the trail. Heer's head fell back as she felt different sensations burst within her. She then slipped his kurta over his shoulders and daringly pressed her half naked body to his.
Desire shot through both of them as skin met skin. Prem saw her pulse hammering on her neck, and placed a gentle kiss on it. He tugged at her sari blouse and when that gave away, he removed the rest of the clothing. He then moved her back and gently pushed her on the bed before getting on top of her.
~Heere moti main na chaahoo
Main toh chaahoo samgam tera...~
Prem removed Heer's earrings and placed a gentle kiss behind her ear. He took his time with her...savoring every taste...every touch...as if they had all the time in the world.
~Mein na jaanu
Tu hi jaane...~
Prem took Heer's wrist and locked them over her head, his next kiss a lot more heated. The pace changed. It became hot...and it became heavy. Prem latched his lips onto Heer's neck and she moaned in response. She wrapped her legs around his waist and switched their positions so she was now on top, placing kisses down his chest. Heer used her tongue on Prem, trailing his rock hard abs, causing him to moan. She teased...and it drove him insane. Not able to wait any longer, Prem grabbed Heer by her waist and flipped their positions again.
~Mein toh teri
Tu hai mera...~
When they connected, the moon hid behind the clouds again. She knew that two souls were meeting tonight...and she withdrew her light from their bedroom to give them some privacy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Heer opened her eyes, the room was mostly dark with the exception of moonlight coming in through the windows and balcony. Heer squinted her eyes so her vision got adjusted to the darkness. When she looked at the clock hanging on her wall, she saw that it was 4:30am. A few more hours and it'll be a new day.
Heer turned to her side and her eyes then fell on Prem's sleeping form. Her lips automatically curved up in a smile. He was sleeping on his stomach with his face turned towards her. There was enough moonlight in the room to make out his silhouette and muscles on his chiseled back. She got a flashback of her digging her nails into those muscles not too long ago and she blushed at the memory.
Wrapping a sheet around her naked form, Heer got off the bed and walked to her balcony. When the fresh air hit her skin, it felt glorious. She felt...alive...like she was breathing after eons. Like she felt the first droplets of rain in a long drought. Heer inhaled the cool air and lifted her face up at the sky.
The sky was bright tonight, with the stars shining with their whole heart. When she was 10 years old, she sat on this balcony and wished on a shooting start that Prem Juneja goes back to Canada and never returns. Who would have thought...that so many years later...she would be standing on this same balcony after she spent the night with Prem Juneja...her husband.
Heer's eyes looked at the night sky. She didn't realize she was waiting for it until it happened...a shooting star dashing across the sky. She felt that familiar rush through her veins and closed her eyes to make her wish.
Mein nahin jaanti ke mere naseeb mein kya likha hai...lekin mein sirf Prem ki kushi chaati hoon. Woh bohut acha hai...aur usse duniya ki sari kushiyan mile.'' She opened her eyes, realizing that this wish left her overwhelmed. The realization dawned on her that this was another thing Prem returned to her...her faith in making simple wishes. There was a time, after Manmeet left that Heer didn't believe in wishes made upon a shooting star anymore. When she saw a shooting star, she turned her back to it knowing that her wish of marrying the man she loved didn't come true. But tonight...she wished without thinking twice...without any pain...without any heartbreak.
Heer turned to stare into the room. She saw that Prem shift in his sleep and was laying on his back now. Feeling emotional at this revelation, Heer stepped back into the room and approached Prem's sleeping form. Heer stood next him and admired his handsome face. Her hand automatically lifted to brush away a few strands of hair falling over his forehead. She did it carefully, trying not to wake him. What else was this man capable of?'' Heer wondered. She was stupid for not seeing what a wonderful person Prem was. Oh he was still the devil...but he was also the most amazing man. Not being able to help herself, Heer bent down and placed a soft kiss on Prem's forehead.
She turned to walk back to her side of the bed...and the next thing she knew strong arms grabbed her and pulled her back. Heer lost her balance and tumbled onto the bed. Prem rolled over until Heer was trapped underneath him.
"Prem!" Heer gasped, losing her breath.
"Hello." Prem simply said, looking down at her.
"How long were you awake? Why didn't you say anything?" Heer asked; feeling a little embarrassed.
Prem brushed away a strand of hair that fell over Heer's collar bone, "Just a few minutes...I wanted to see what you would do" He replied, "Waise...kiss yahaan karte hai." Prem said cheekily and gave Heer a quick peck on her lips. Yep...definitely still a devil.'' Heer thought as she looked up at him.
"Can't sleep?" Prem asked casually, as he trailed a fingertip over Heer's now exposed collar bone. It sent shivers down Heer's spine.
"No..." Heer replied breathlessly.
"Kyon?" Prem asked huskily, placing a soft kiss on that same collar bone, savoring Heer's soft skin.
"Tumhari vaja se...neend churaana koi tumse seekhe..." Heer whispered back, closing her eyes as she felt desire shoot through her body.
"Bas?...sirf neend?" Prem replied, pulling the cloth that covered Heer down, exposing her body to him. "Agar saansein chura loon...toh baat hai..." Prem murmured and kissed Heer's lips again, this kiss a lot deeper then the last. "...Dhadak te dil ka...betaabiyaan chura loon...toh baat hai..." Prem whispered and placed a kiss right over Heer's heart, smiling when he felt her heartbeat against his lips. "...Rooh ki tapish chura loon...toh baat hai..." He said as they connected.

It was Soo sweet update dear. I really love those words from Heer to encourage Prem before the presentation. And the kiss in Heer's bedroom on her bed kaash aisa Sach mein show mein hota!!!☺️ (I know I know...I have become shameless😉)
But there was very less Premeer scenes. And to be honest I wasn't expecting Heer telling the kissing part to her sisters. I mean I was kind of expecting that Prem and Heer would sneak around with their cute romance while no one would know it. It would have been more fun to see how they would have managed the situations😆.But no offence, you did a good job. Waiting for next. And plzzz give a little longer updates. (Don't mind my demands😛)
