Dori
Heer took out her new saree. It was a dark blue saree that had a black lace boarder. She showered and began to get ready. It was her cousin, Ashlesha's, engagement. Heer applied some black eye liner, and a light shade of pink to her lips. Her hair was still a little damp so she decided to do her hair later.
She slipped on the petticoat and blouse. She couldn't reach the backside of her blouse, so she left the clasp and dori for later. She'd ask her sister for help. She began to wrap the long piece of material around her waist once, then twice. She picked up the pallu of her saree and brought it around her body, flinging it over her right shoulder. Holding the middle part of the saree, she started to create the delicate pleats. She folded forward then backward, forward then backward, over and over again until she was content with the length of her pallu. Heer lifted the saree pleats and tucked them into the front of her skirt. She fiddled around with the pleats for a bit longer, making sure it was just perfect.
Heer was so busy with her saree, she didn't even hear the faint knock on her door. He opened the door thinking no one was actually inside. He was dumbfounded with what he saw. There she stood oblivious to the world around her. His heart skipped a beat every time he laid his eyes on her. She was perfect for him. He still remembered the day he had finally plucked up the courage and confessed his feelings for her, 4 years ago. He was pleasantly surprised and relieved when she revealed that she felt the same way. That was all he needed to hear. They were dating ever since. The family introductions happened and thankfully everyone had gotten along very well. He sent a small thank you up to god every time he was Heer. He thank them for bringing Heer into his life.
He saw Heer gathering her hair pushing it to the right side of her face. That's when he notice Heer hadn't even finished tying her blouse. He looked away, knowing that it wasn't right to look at her like that. Not in this situation. But then he heard her.
"Uff! Stupid blouse!" Heer cursed trying to reach the clasp.
Prem didn't realize how he had reached her, it was if his feet had a mind of their own.
Heer was back to fixing her pleats, since she sorta messed them trying to reach the clasp of her blouse. She still hadn't noticed his presence.
Heer jumped at the slight touch of fingers on her back. She looked into the mirror only to see Prem staring at her. She remembered her blouse wasn't even on properly and she backed herself into Prem. Wrong move. They looked at each other through the mirror, daring one another to make the first move. Prem felt Heer shiver as he grazed his index finger from the tips of her fingers to the top of her shoulder. Heer's breath got caught as his other hand slid slowly across her bare stomach.
"Prem?" she managed to whisper.
"Hmm?" he replied back, rubbing his nose along her cheek.
The soft circles his fingers were making on Heer's abdomen was not helping Heer focus at all. She couldn't form a single coherent thought! "What are you doing? Koi aagaya toh?" (What if someone comes in?)
"So? I love you, I'm just romancing my girlfriend. Is that so wrong?" Prem asked huskily.
His hands found a new job on Heer's back. The touch making Heer quiver and, thus leaving her unable to answer Prem's silly question. She felt his hands just barely touching her skin, making her feel anxious.
"My blouse, It's not-" Heer started.
"I know."
Their eyes lock though the mirror again, she didn't think she'd ever get used to Prem's touch. It wasn't as if they hadn't made out before, they had. Yet they never crossed the unspoken line. Prem respected Heer and her decisions. He didn't want to make her feel compelled to do some she wasn't ready for. He would wait for her, till the end of time and, even after.
This time around she saw the raw passion in Prem's eyes, the passion that he had managed to conceal from her every time. She felt herself wanting to lose herself in Prem.
Prem couldn't get enough of her. He kept wanting to feel, to memorize as much of her as he possibly could. Keeping his gaze locked upon Heer's, he finally began to do what he had intended on doing in the first place.
His fingers picked up the dori on either side of her blouse. He brought it to the middle and tied it into a knot. He closed the clasp on the bottom of the blouse and rested his hands on either side of Heer's waist. Not once did his gaze falter.
Heer turned pink under his intense stare. She tried to look away but wasn't able to.
He brought his lips close to Heer's ear and whispered, "Hogaya." (Done.)
Still in her own land, "What?" she asked confused.
"Tumhari blouse ki dori, maine bandh diya." he said winking. (I tied your blouse strings together.)
"Thanks Prem."
"Don't I deserve a gift for helping you out?" Prem asked naughtily.
Heer smiled to herself. She loved when they would have these tease games, "Gift? What kind of gift, Prem?"
"You know, something only you could give me." he suggested
Heer giggled, while quickly pulling her hair up in a bun. " Okay, I'll gift you anything you want."
He arched his eyebrows, "Anything I want?" He moved closer to her as she finished putting her earrings on.
"Hmm, with a few exceptions of course."
"How about a thank you kiss? Just for now." He asked putting his arms around Heer's waist.
Heer turned to face him. She loved Prem for who he is, but she couldn't help gush a little. Prem was very handsome. His soulful eyes, his long nose, perfectly sculpted jaw lines and that smirk that played on his lips. He was all hers.
She put her arms around his neck, stood up on her tippy-toes a little and leaned in to the side of his face. "Thank you for tying my dori Prem"
Prem's eyes were closed as he waited for his gift. Heer quickly peck him on his cheek and ran toward the door.
His eyes flew open, "Heer that was not the kind of kiss I asked for." he exclaimed wickedly.
Heer giggled from the door, "well you didn't exactly specify what kind' of kiss you wanted."
"Well I'll specify it now!"
"Too late Mr.Prem Juneja. Maybe next time." Heer teased as she ran down stairs. Prem tried to reach for her, but all in vain. She was just too fast.
Downstairs, Heer was talking with his mom. He felt an overwhelming appreciation for his mother as she had just perfect timing. She got up to see what was taking Heer's mom so long. That left Prem and Heer together on the couch. He leaned in and whispered nothing but a simple line, that left Heer blushing.
"Jee hum tum chori se, bandhe ek dori se, jayeo kahan ae huzoor."
