Currently unavailable Sushant Singh Rajput has isolated himself in order to get into the character of a popular Bengali fictional detective

Over the last two months, he was busy shooting for Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy in Kolkata. And now Sushant Singh Rajput " in a bid to focus on his character " has cut himself off from the outside world.

"While shooting, Sushant was practically unreachable even to his family and Ankita (Lokhande; girlfriend). He would call them only when it was urgent after the day's shoot would get over. He had also stopped reading newspapers, surfing the web and switched his phones off. He has done this because it's similar to his character, Byomkesh, who operates silently and on his own," says an insider.

During the schedule, Sushant also avoided media events and stopped socialising. "When the production team noticed that he was trying to stay aloof, they put him in a separate hotel (in Kolkata) where no one else from the crew was staying," adds the insider.

While his mobile remains switched off, Sushant tells us over email: "I try to isolate myself as much as I can so that I can work on the roles I choose. If you have a director like Dibakar, you try to give the best you can and try not to let him down."

Sushant idolises Hollywood actor Daniel DayLewis who also uses this method. "He does it because he is so talented and committed, whereas I do it because of the limitations I have as far as experience is concerned. This is the only way I can try, focus, work hard and convince myself that I have the authority to be the character I'm working on," says the actor.

Apparently, Sushant took a week-long break when the schedule got over around 10 days ago. "But since he is back on the sets now, Sushant has gone into a cocoon again," adds the insider. " Sushant Singh Rajput,

Young Yearners 2013: Sushant Singh Rajput

Young Yearners 2013: Sushant Singh Rajput
Suhani Singh February 28, 2014 | UPDATED 10:35 IST

Sushant Singh Rajput, 28
Actor
Mumbai

Sushant Singh Rajput
Sushant Singh Rajput dropped out of Delhi College of Engineering (now Delhi Technological University) and put in four years in theatre before he first caught attention as Manav in Balaji's popular TV soap Pavitra Rishta. While making his way to the Balaji office in the busy suburb of Andheri, says Rajput, he would dream of working across the road-with YRF (Yash Raj Films) Studios. That dream came true as he was signed on by YRF for Shuddh Desi Romance after a scorching debut in Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che (2013). "I rejected films even when I didn't have any in hand. When you dream big, are patient and have faith in yourself, good things happen," he says. Only two films old, Rajput, with his boy-next-door image and easy charm, is already working alongside directors such as Rajkumar Hirani (P.K.), Dibakar Banerjee (Detective Byomkesh Bakshi) and Shekhar Kapur (Paani).

Role call: It's a combination of the script and director that gets him to sign on the dotted line.

When i grow up, i want to be Irrfan Khan.

Figure this: He spends two hours every day solving mathematical problems to de-stress.

MS Dhoni Sushant Singh Rajput

"Dhoni has already given his go ahead to the film. Even as Sushant is shooting for Dibakar's (Banerjee) film, he is studying Dhoni's mannerisms as much as possible through his interviews and match clippings. In fact, he has also visited Ranchi (Dhoni's hometown) and interacted with the locals as part of his preparation," says an insider close to the production.

Sushant and Dhoni are also believed to have met at a Bandra fivestar hotel. "We don't know the reason, but we had seen the two of

them together right before Dhoni left for the New Zealand series," says a member of the hotel's staff.

While the biopic is expected to cover Dhoni's journey " from a small-town boy to a global phenomenon " a part of it will also focus on his wife Sakshi. "They are considering Deepika Padukone or Shraddha Kapoor to play Sakshi," adds the insider.

The yet-untitled film is likely to kick off in early 2015. "He has to transform his body before filming. Since he also has to wrap up Dibakar's and Shekhar Kapur's films, which require different physiques, it'll take some time for the biopic to get started," adds the insider. Apparently, it will be made on a budget of around 95 crore and shot in Jharkhand, Durban in South Africa, and London, among other locations.

Despite repeated attempts, neither Sushant nor Neeraj could be reached for comment.

Bollywood stars who are experimenting with their looks

There used to be a time when our dear Bollywood stars just hated changing their look for a film. Of course we did have the occasional exceptions made for big films, but largely, most of our gorgeous hunks and babes were afraid of trying anything different with their star looks. While some were afraid of looking anything but picture perfect, many others did not want to spoil their on-screen image. But times have changed. And with more and more newcomers willing to take the plunge, a lot of veterans are willing to go the extra mile for that extra dozen crores.

Another example is Sushant Singh Rajput. While you would expect an actor of his age to be insecure about his looks, Sushant has no problems donning a dhoti in just his third film. Detective Byomkesh Bakshi will see Sushant play the role of the legendary Bengali detective in full costume of a dhoti-kurta and jacket. And we have no doubt that Sushant will make it look as cool as Sherlock's deer-stalker hat.

The new breed of actors combines experiment with entertainment to create awhole new cutting edge

THE report card of Bollywood's first trimester is out and it clearly suggests that the young stars have taken the centre stage. Young actors barely a few films old are making a mark through their talent. They are daring enough to do off- beat roles and by taking measured steps, they have managed to rule the box office also.

One- film old Varun Dhawan who made a debut with Karan Johar's Student of the Year attacked the box office with his latest release Main Tera Hero . Directed by dad David Dhawan, the comedy film emerged as a surprise winner and earned ' 26.3 crores in the opening week. Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, who were anointed as promising debutants, leaped forward by playing characters which were diametrically opposite to their image set in debut film Student of The Year . Imtiaz Ali's Highway wasn't a big commercial success, but, the film helped Alia Bhatt to display her talented genetic makeup.

In the long list of star- kids, Siddharth Malhotra and Sushant Singh Rajput are the only outsiders, who have been able to make a mark without possessing a big filmy surname.

" Film kids come prepared as they know the rules of the games in Bolllywood.

For the outsiders the testing time is harsh as they do not get a second chance.

What really works in Bollywood is the ability of a youngster to pick the right script, experimental role and perfect marketing," says ad guru and image maker Prahlad Kakkar.

TV actor- turned- Bollywood star Sushant managed to make an entry into the league of promising newcomers with films like Kai Po Che and Shuddh Desi Romance . He has a glorious career ahead as he has a few prestigious projects like Rajkumar Hirani's Peekay , Shekhar Kapur's Paani and Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshi. B OLLYWOOD seriously believes in the adage" you are as good as your last hit.

Most of the newcomers have become daring enough to take up experimental films. These films have received a good response from the audience, and offered a perfect foothold to the newcomers," said trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Siddharth's restrained performance in Hasee Toh Phasee , confirmed his ability to maturely pull off a film, on his own. Shraddha Kapoor made a dud entry with Teen Patti , but her intensity as an actor came to fore in last year's super hit romantic drama Aashiqui 2 . With films like Ishaqzaade, Gunday and Aurangzeb , Arjun Kapoor has proved his mettle as an actor.

Boney Kapoor's son who weighed 150 kgs when he started out as an assistant director has charmed the audience with his rustic looks and understated acting.

PARINEETI CHOPRA

LAST HITS: Habib Faisal's Ishaqzaade , Maneesh Sharma's Shuddh Desi Romance and Vinil Mathew's Hasee Toh Phasee UPCOMING FILMS: Habib Faisal's Dawaat- E- Ishq and Shaad Ali's Kill Dill WHAT'S IN STORE: Parineeti has shown promise right from the word go.

She has garnered wide appreciations for her performances in all the films she appeared since her debut in Ladies Vs Ricky Behl. Her ability to pick scripts which offer her to reveal her spontaneity makes her stand apart. She hasn't yet played an ultra- modern glamour- girl, which she should look for in her next film.

SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT

LAST HITS: Abhishek Kapoor's Kai Po Che and Maneesh Sharma's Shuddh Desi Romance

UPCOMING FILMS: Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshi , Rajkumar Hirani's Peekay and Shekhar Kapoor's Paani .

WHAT'S IN STORE: Starting out as a background dancer, Sushant had a fruitful stint as small screen's favourite star with the hit show Pavitra Rishta. His role of a failed cricketer in Kai Po Che was a revelation.

He has some prestigious project in his kitty, which will further establish his position in Bollywood. In the coming times, he should make a serious attempt to appear in an outand- out comedy film.

VARUN DHAWAN

LAST HITS: Karan Johar's Student of The Year and David Dhawan's Main Tera Hero

UPCOMING FILMS: Karan Johar's romcom Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

WHAT'S IN STORE: By making perfect use of his intrinsic naughty streak in Main Tera Hero , Varun got instantly compared with Govinda, who once ruled Bollywood.

Varun is the face of Coca Cola, WeChat, Panasonic and Gatsby. Given his ability to play to the gallery, he should take up a few more tautly- scripted comedy films.

SHRADDHA KAPOOR

LAST HITS: Mohit Suri's Aashiqui 2

UPCOMING FILMS: Ekta Kapoor's production Ek Villain and Vishal Bharadwaj's Haider.

WHAT'S IN STORE: Shraddha's on- screen vulnerability is her biggest USP, which has made her a perfect choice for girl- nextdoor characters. After the stupendous success of Aashiqui 2 , she has emerged as the most wanted person of the advertising world. She needs to sign a film that gives her an opportunity to look more glamourous and spunky on screen.

ARJUN KAPOOR

LAST HITS: Habib Faisal's Ishaqzaade , Ali Abbas Zafar's Gunday

UPCOMING FILMS: Abhishek Verman's 2 States, Homi Adjania's Finding Fanny Fernandes.

WHAT'S IN STORE: Right from his debut, Arjun has displayed an angry- man swagger.

Instead of getting into an image- trap, Arjun has been picking different kinds of roles to show his range as an actor. In the coming times, an out- and- out madcap comedy film would work for him.

SIDDHARTH MALHOTRA

LAST HITS: Karan Johar's Student of The Year and Vinil Mathew's Hasee Toh Phasee

UPCOMING FILMS: Mohit Suri's Ek Villain in which he plays a negative role.

WHAT'S IN STORE: Siddharth has a deadly combination of good looks and intensity that has worked in his favour. In his upcoming film Ek Villain , he plans to surprise the audience by playing a negative shade. In order to prove his range as an actor, he should come out of his comfort zone and pick a film where he gets to play an off- beat, unglamorous role.

ALIA BHATT

LAST HITS: Karan Johar's super hit film Student of The Year . Her performance was appreciated in Imtiaz Ali's Highway .

UPCOMING FILMS: Abhishek Verman's 2 States and Karan Johar's Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania

WHAT'S IN STORE: Alia has already established herself as a new- age style diva with a right mix of talented genetic make- up in her previous films. A hit in the ad- world, Alia has emerged as the fresh new youth icon endorsing brands like Maybelline, Coca Cola, Garnier and more. To further strengthen her presence in Bollywood, she needs get a film made by her dad filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt offering an author back role for her.

Sushant to have two heroines

Yes, Sushant Singh Rajput will be starring opposite not one but two leading ladies in Dibakar Banerjee's Byomkesh Bakshi. While one of the two actresses is Divya Menon, designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee's former fashion assistant, the other lady in the film is Bengali actress, Swastika. Divya is said to be playing Sushant's wife in the YRF film while Swastika is supposedly playing the other woman. The film just got more exciting... What say you?
