WHY SUSHANT SINGH RAJPUT AND HIS COSTAR VAANI KAPOOR MISSED THEIR DATE WITH TORONTO All the bags were packed and they were ready to go. But alas, owing to a cruel twist of fate, Sushant Singh Rajput and his co- star Vaani Kapoor recently missed going to Toronto. Shuddh Desi Romance was initially set to release on September 13 but its release date was advanced by a week, as the film was to travel to Canada for the ongoing film festival in Toronto. The cast and crew were set to leave for Toronto but it was not to be for Sushant and Vaani. Insiders say finally, only Parineeti Chopra managed to represent the cast at the films gala. However, sources from the production house say Vaani was never scheduled to go, as the newbie had some portions to shoot for the upcoming Telugu version of Band Baaja Baaraat. Unfortunately for Sushant, his father fell ill and the actor had to rush to Patna to be by his side. A source close to Vaani confirmed the buzz. Sushant remained unavailable for comment. Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra starrer "Shuddh Desi Romance", which is based on live-in relationships, has been performing pretty well at the box office, despite new release "Grand Masti".
The romantic comedy has made a business of around 53.78 crore worldwide till its second weekend. The film earned 42.89 crore in the Indian market, and 10.89 crore overseas.
The second week break-up of the film, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, is: Friday 1.23 crore, Saturday 2.01 crore, Sunday 2.30 crore and Monday 77 lakh.
The film, which was initially released in 1,000 screens, did pretty well during the second weekend, but the collections declined on the second Monday. "SDR" would see a drastic downfall in its collection in its third week due to the release of "Phata Poster Nikla Hero".
This week's releases "John Day" and "Horror Story" opened on a dull note, giving way for "SDR" to perform well at the box office. But next week, thecollections as well as the screen count will come down drastically.
In the overseas circuits, the film raked in 10.89 crore from its 10-day run. "#ShuddhDesiRomance Overseas total *after Weekend 2* stands at $ 1.721 million [ 10.89 crores]. Very good," Adarsh tweeted.
"SDR" raked in total 1.03 crore ( 1,02,413) from the UK, 3.55 crores ($ 5,61,079) from the US, 4.03 crore (AED 23,55,000) from UAE-GCC, 21.08 lakh (A$ 86,950) from Australia and 13.24 lakh (NZ$ 25,730) from New Zealand box office.

Celebrating a film's success at the box office is the norm in the industry, and the elusive Aditya Chopra is the latest to have embraced the trend. The producer, who was impressed with the lead star cast and crew of his last release Shuddh Desi Romance, hosted a bash on September 28 for them. He not only invited Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor, but also the film's assistant directors and the entire crew.
Aditya ChopraThe decision to celebrate the success was taken at the last moment. "The party wasn't pre-planned. Aditya made his mind up at the last moment and it was held inside the YRF studios at Andheri. The bash was held on the weekend so that everyone from the team to make it. Sushant, Parineeti, Vaani and the crew had a gala time," says the film's spokesperson.
Apparently, one of the main reasons for the party was that the producer was happy with the way three newcomers had been accepted by the audience as well as critics. "He wanted to appreciate their performances and what better way than throwing a special bash. The entire team was also happy with the decision to have a party for the film's success," adds the spokesperson.
