Yes it is implied Meher gave him spare key for emergencies. Before this Inspector Khan saw them outside a building, at a police station, and at a local bazar only...he's never been to their home before so he didn't question the new place.

Wow shopping for paint was fun or not. So Preet didn't want her to live there and instead of saying it he does all these to distract her huh
