| Bet you didn't know this.But Sushan Singh Rajput, currently basking in the wah-wahs for his performance as a cricketing coach in Kai Po Che modelled his character and his performance on his sister Mitu Singh, a state-level cricket player. Says Sushant, "I haven't told this to anyone. But it was my sister who inspired my character. I've played a male version of Mitu Didi. She was a state-level cricketer and as hot-headed and impulsive as my character Ishaan." The minute Sushant read the script he knew it was his sister he would model his character on. Says the actor, "I couldn't dream of playing any other character. I could immediately identify with Ishaan's passion for cricket , his constant struggle to make himself understood by family friends and society and his struggle to understand himself. It was my sister Mitu I was looking at in the script." Ishaan kept the reference/source for his character a secret from the entire team. "The first person I wanted to know about my role-model was my sister. On Friday evening she went to see Kai Po Che. I told her to spot herself in the film.And she did.When Didi told me,'Arrey, tune toh mujhe daal diya apne kirdaar mein,' it was my moment of greatest victory." says Sushant emotionally. The other compliment that he cherishes the most for his performance in Kai Po Che came from his soul-mate Ankita Lokhande . Says Sushan shyly, "Ankita who is my biggest critic told me that for two years she knew me as Maanav the character I played with her in the serial Pavitra Rishta. But now she sees me as Ishaan from Kai Po Che. I want her to feel the same way when my next film releases." Sushant's 6-year old niece Mallika couldn't stop crying after she saw her 'Sushant Mama' die at the end of the film. "She was sobbing inconsolably. I had to repeatedly assure her that I was fine. But she wasn't convinced," says Sushant. Kai Po Che has opened to huge ovation. Sailing on Cloud 9 on the wings of the rave reviews Sushant says, "I am no stranger to attention. I had a certain following on television. But what I am experiencing now is entirely different." Being hailed as the new star on the block Sushant is moving very cautiously. "I don't want to make any wrong move.The reviews have all been very kind. But it doesn't take long for actors to turn into one-film wonders. Luckily for me my next release is a Yashraj film , so I am ensured a certain strategic advantage. But beyond that I've to make sure I keep surprising myself before I surprise the audience." Though Sushant is not allowed to talk about his role in the Yashraj film opposite Parineeti Chopra directed by Maneesh Sharma, the actor apparently plays a role totally antithetical to his part in Kai Po Che. Says Sushant, "All I'll say is, those who see me in Kai Po Che won't recognize me in Maneesh's film. I play a completely different character." |

'Kai Po Che' the film about life, three friends and their friendship seems to have won the hearts of the Indian movie goers. It is based on the popular bestselling novel of Chetan Bhagat's 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life'. The character of the 3 friends in the movie Ishaan, Omkar Shastri and Govind Patel are respectively portrayed by new comers Sushant Singh, Amit Sadh and Raj Kumar Yadav.
Director Abhishek Kapur was determined that he wanted new faces to recreate the characters on screen as a veteran actor would have induced his aura in the character that he wanted to avoid.
The expectation from the film was high. The earlier movie that adopted a novel of Chetan Bhagat was a huge hit and created collection record at the box office. We are talking about the Aamir Khan starrer '3 Idiots' that released in the year 2009. However, 'Kai Po Che' had a dismal opening on its first day. But the word of mouth reviews did a great job for the movie, footfalls in the halls started increasing from the next day onwards and the movie has now established itself as an established super hit.
The film has collected a whooping Rs. 29.5 crore in its first week of release. Well known film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the details of the box office collection of the film, "#KaiPoChe collected approx ?29.50 cr nett in Week 1. Breakup:- Wknd 18.10 cr, Mon 3.25 cr, Tue 2.95 cr, Wed 2.70 cr, Thu 2.50 cr." Adarsh also tweeted, "Update: #KaiPoChe expected to dominate the domestic BO for the second consecutive weekend, as per early trends."
The film is performing exceptionally well at Pune, Mumbai, Mysore and Bangalore regions. The performance is poor in the Rajasthan, UP and Delhi regions. However, the youth oriented movie is expected to keep up its good performance and to rule the box office in the next week as well.
The performance put up by 'Kai Po Che' is commendable when one considers that it has held its ground even against a very stiff competition. The film competed with Prabhu Deva's 'ABCD', Akshay Kumar's 'Special 26' and Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi's 'Zila Ghaziabad' and came out as the clear winner. Even the new release of John Abraham's 'I me aur main' couldn't affect the popularity of 'Kai Po Che' at the box office.
Sushant Singh Rajput
With the success of Sushant's debut film Kai Po Che, he will now face a strong test in mental endurance. Acclaim and fame is destined for him and so are international projects, but it's the Five of Pentacles and the Fool that warn the importance of being wise with career choices. He will need to be careful with his expenses and having high monetary expectations from producers. His brand value will certainly grow, but the Devil emphasises the importance of going after quality of work and life rather than the temptations he will be surrounded by. From April 2013, he will find himself making more balanced decisions and like the Hierophant he will be meticulous with his work.
Sushant now looks forward to P.K. and an untitled Yash Raj Film project. P.K. will be a great career turner for him, but the experience of filming it will be a huge mental challenge for him. With the Towercard appearing, he will feel uncomfortable in his working environment.
The energy, chemistry and ease reflecting from the Sun card explain the formula to Sushant's success in YRF's next opposite Parineeti Chopra. He will be loved for his work and like the Magician, he will pull in the crowds to make this a box office success.
Tarot tip ' Sushant will need to carefully read his contracts before signing on new projects. He will also need to be careful on the personal front as the Three of Swords represents lack of communication which will cause unnecessary strain and trouble.
Raj Kumar Yadav
Raj Kumar will emerge as the dark horse. He is cautious, detailed and smart about the way he works and conducts himself. The King of Wands and the Ten of Pentacles are cards that show his career aggression to be well directed and highly eventful. He will bag some prestigious projects and will handle his work with great maturity. He is bound to gain further respect and leverage from each performance.
In the midst of all of this, he will be unsure of how to handle female adulation, which may prove to be a harder learning curve than acting itself.
Tarot tip ' It will be important for him to eliminate past fears of failure in work and life in general as these may drain him out psychologically.
The Page of Swords warns Amit to maintain focus, especially as the Eight of Wands represents some great projects coming his way. He will be seen as a breath of fresh air and will win over audiences. This will see Amit grow in confidence and like the Emperor and Judgement card, he will gain immense respect for his craft.
He will need to refrain from getting involved in a relationship as this will divert his attention from his growing career. In fact, September-October 2013 is when he will see the right person enter his life who will provide better balance and emotional stability.
Tarot tip ' Planning schedules well and not leaving things to the last minute will allow him to take on good opportunities.
