PART 4In the morning, Meher was helping her maa in the kitchen to prepare breakfast. Well she was cooking and her maa was their to give her company.
Maa: Meher lagta hai tu poori raat sooyi nahi(noticing the dark circles)
meher (looking at the tea and waiting for it to boil): haan maa bas neend nahi aayi
maa:acha. chal tu jaldi se chai le aa. baqi saari cheezain to rakh di hai table par. (she started to leave for the dining table)
meher: maa
maa(turned around): haan
meher(still looking at her tea): app apni dost ko bula lain
Maa got so happy that tears started to come of happiness. she could not believe meher agreed. she went and hugged her. she knew this was hard for her daughter but this was for her happiness.Meher hugged her maa back. she was happy to see her maa so happy after such a long time.
Meher had a nice breakfast with her parents. After that maa arranged a meeting with her friend for the evening. They were going to meet with the family and the guy. Things started to happen really quickly. they were all just waiting for meher to say yes.
Over at Juneja house things started to move too. the juneja household consisted of 7 people. Savitri (maa) and Yash (bauji) had only two children. One son and one daughter. the daughter was older married with two kids.her name was kulraj. She lived with her parents and her husband, Kiran. Kiran had no one in this world so Kulraj's parents told him that they are his family and he should stay with them. Since then he has been living with them. Kiran and kulraj had two children, tannu and vikaas. Kiran helped with the family business and kulraj took care of the house and her children. She was in desperate need of a bhabhi who could help her manage everything.
Savitri received a call from her friend with whom she talked about her sons marriage. Although everyone was awake and doing their work in the house, one person was not awake. The only son of the house, Preet Juneja.
Over at the kitchen
Savitri: kulraj beta preet kahan hai dikhayi nahi de raha?
kulraj(annoyed with preet): maa woh abhi tak soo raha hai
savitri(shocked): abhi tak??
kulraj: haan maa.main gayi thi usay uthanay magar usne kaha ke usne bauji se officially chutti li hui hai office ki to woh apni chuttion main aaram karega.
savitri(worried): hey bhagwan is larkay ka kya hoga.
kulraj: app fiqr na karay maa. biwi aa jayegi na to sab theek ho jayega.
savitri: aray haan.abhi meri dost teji ka phone aya tha.
kulraj: haan maa apne bataya tha un ke baray main jab hum canada main the.
savitri: haan.aj uski call aayi thi. unho ne hamain shaam ko milne ke liye bulaya hai. milne ke bahanay uski beti se bhi mulakaat ho jayegi.
kulraj: maa app preet ki liye larki to dhoondh rahi ho magar woh uthega to kisi larki se milega na.
savitri: tu sabar ker.main jaa ker uthati hun usay (saying this she left for preets room)
Preet was peacefully sleeping on his bed. He was not fond of the heat in India thats why most of the time he was seen shirtless roaming around the house(but his room had air-conditioning) .Today was the same. He was sleeping without his shirt revealing his muscular body. his messy hair covered his eyes. he had a smile on his face. maybe he was having a nice dream. But this dream soon turned into a nightmare as his maa entered his room.
Maa(angrily): preet tu ab tak soo raha hai (preet not responding) preet uth(still not responding) theek hai tu nahi uth raha na to main Malhotra sahab ki beti ashlesha se teri shaadi kerwa dungi (she knew this would wake him up. He hated ashlesha. she was so dumb and rude and spoilt rich brat. preet was an obedient son so savitri knew if she asked him to marry someone he would. but she never used this to make unreasonable demands.)
Preet woke up the next second: maa kya app mujhe aise kyun darati ho?(making an innocent face)
maa: preet tujhe pata hai kya time ho raha hai? (preet nodded.he knew it was 1 in the afternoon) aur tu ab tak soo raha hai?
preet: maa maine bauji se chutti li hui hai.ab app to peeche na paro.har waqt kaam kerta hun thora aaram to kerne do.
maa: main kuch nahi jaanti.tu sara time office main lagata hai.ab teri chutti hai na.tu mere saath waqt bitayega.
preet: maa…(he made an innocent face to change maas decision because he took this holiday to rest. he had been working non stop for a long time. his maa didnt change her decision and he knew he had to spend time with her)
maa: main kuch nahi jaanti. preet ab tu bara ho gaya hai.apni zimedari samajh.office bhi jana shuru kerdia hai. ab main chahti hun teri shaadi ho jayay.tere bauhat saray bachay ho. main dadi banuun
preet(hiding his face under the covers): not again maa…
maa(she took the cover off from his face): main kuch nahi sunna chahti.bas maine keh dia na.ab teri umar ho gayi hai shaadi ki.hamesha tune apni manmani ki hai.ab nahi.aj shaam hum meri dost teji ke ghar jayenge. unki do betiyan hai.heer aur meher. heer ki shaadi ho chuki hai aur uski aik beti hai.meher ne abhi apni parhai khatam ki hai.aj tu meher se milega.ab chal jaldi uth.mujhe bauhat kaam hai(saying this she left the room)
Preet hid himself again under the covers but he knew he had to wake up. making his mom angry was not good for everyone in the house. she would target anyone of her anger. saying this he got out of the bed and went to the bathroom.
Over at Maan household, Meher and her maa got busy with the house work. Although Meher always kept the house clean, they still did some last minute cleaning.
Maa: ah saari safai ho gayi. meher beta tu ja tayyar ho ja. mujhe yakeen nahi ho raha yeh din bhi aa gaya.
Meher didnt know what to say to her maa so she went to her to clean up. She wore a simple blue salwar kameez. she tied her hair in a braid and wore small gold earings. She looked at herself in the mirror. She always thought she would get ready for Harman. Take the tea and snacks out for his family and they would finalize the marriage. But today it was someone else. she didnt want to think about him and she couldnt. She went to the kitchen to start making some food to divert her mind from harman.
Preet got out the bathroom in his towel and went towards his closet to pick clothes. It was his habit to pick clothes after taking a shower and roam around the room in his towel. He loved his privacy and no one dared to invade his privacy as it would make him very angry and an angry Preet was not good.
Preet was a very sweet and fun loving guy. He always made everyone happy. being with Preet brought a smile to everyones face. There was something about him that people could not resist. Maybe it was his down to earth nature, maybe his humor, maybe his caring nature, maybe his looks.. who knows what. He can be a joker at one moment and an understanding serious person next moment. but an angry Preet was like an animal out of control. He could attack anyone.
Although he was a very handsome and intelligent man, he was very lazy and messy. This is why his maa thought he needed a wife, who could make him more responsible. Preet loved his family more than anything in the world. He could do anything for them. His marriage was his Maa's wish so he was going to fulfill it.
Preet wore his clothes and went towards the dresser to fix his hair.
Preet(looking at mirror): such a handsome sexy cute guy. aj maa phir kisi larki se milwayengi (making a face) pata nahi ab woh kaun si bala hogi. jis larki se mila hun woh koi naya ajooba hi hoti hai. is duniya main seedhi saadhi samajhdaar larkiyan khatam ho gayi kya?(confused) Meher(smiling). hmm.naam to acha hai. baqi dekhte hai kaisi hai. anyways i should leave now warna maa us ash ko mere peeche laga daingi. (saying this he left the room)
He went straight to the kitchen to grab something to eat. His maa and sister were also there doing some work.
Kuldi(looking at Preet): aray wah sahabzaday uth gayay (preet stick his tongue out)
Preet: maa kuch khanay ko hai kya? mujhe bauhat bhook lagi hai (preet loved food. if food was a woman, he would have married her long time ago)
Maa (twisting his ear and he was yelling in pain): yeh waqt hai nashte ka? tujhe kuch nahi milega. jaa yahan se
preet: ooouuuuuccchhh maaaaa. (making an innocent face) please maa de do na khana pleaseee
Maa (many people could not resist preet's innocent face and maa was one of them): acha wait ker main bana ker daiti hun.
kuldi: maa app hi ne bigara hai isay. pata nahi apni biwi se kitne nakhray uthwayega
preet: aik to main shaadi kerne ka itna bara risk lunga to kya woh mere najhray bardaasht nahi ker sakti thoray se?
kuldi: shaadi aur risk? shaadi to honay de beta. dekhungi phir kaun kis ke nakhray uthayega (winking at preet)
preet: kuldi app to rehne do. becharay kiran jiju ki kya halat bana di hai(saying this he left the kitchen as he knew kuldi would run after hit him for saying that and he predicted right)
After a while, Teji's friend came with her family.
Teji(Meher's maa): Namaste(to everyone).
Everyone: Namaste (preet, kulraj, kiran touched teji and balraj's feet. they were impressed that even after living in canada these people didnt forget their country and religion)
Teji: Savitri tum kitni badal gayi ho.
Savitri:tum bhi to kitni badal gayi ho.
Balraj: aray teji pehle inhe andar to anay do phir saari baatain ker laina.
teji: aray haan. aayay app sab log
everyone settled on the sofas and started chatting. Preet(who didnt know what to say) kept looking around the room and noticed a picture frame on the wall. there were two girls very close to each other and a little girl. he was confused which one was meher. he concluded that the one with the little girl in her arms must be heer, meher's sister, since she has a daughter in her arms, and the little girl must be her daughter. the other girl was meher.
preet thinking to himself: hmm so thats meher! achi hai. thori moti hai. magar cute hai. he started to examine her face. her big brown eyes were really pretty. full of life. they looked like as if they were talking with him. her nose was cute. her lips had a wide smile. they showed her happiness. her open hair made her look even more beautiful. her hair is long or short? well i cant tell from this picture. i would like it if she has long hair. (while he was thinking he heard a girl)
meher (entered the room with tea and snacks she was preparing earlier): namaste
Everyone (except preet): namaste
Preet looked towards her. he was shocked and confused. This meher was different from the picture he just saw. this meher had no smile, her eyes showed pain, and she was not moti. He said to himself that maybe this is the real meher. some people look really different in pictures than in real life. Realizing where he was, he moved his eyes from her and looked at the ground. he didnt know what to say or how to react.
Meher kept looking at the ground the whole time. she served everyone tea and snacks. then she left for her room. she didnt know what to do with everyone around.
Outside both parents were talking with each other.
Savitri: teji meher ko apni bahu bananay ka faisla main nahi lungi. preet ki marzi hogi to shaadi hogi.
teji: haan savitri hum bhi meher ki marzi se sab kuch karaingay.
savitri: main chahti hun preet aur meher aik dusre se akele main baat kerlain aik dusre se takay aik dusre ko jaan sakay. zindagi to in dono ne hi guzaarni hai aik dusre ke saath to behtar hai yeh dono hi aik dusre ko apne baray main batayay aur janay. aj yeh dono thori baatain ker lain aur phir baqi mulaqatain hoti rahaingi.
teji (looked towards balraj and he nodded): theek keh rahi ho savitri. (looked towards preet) preet beta meher ka kamra upar jaa ker left par hai. woh wohi par hai. tum dono aaram se baat ker laina.
Preet gave a smile and went towards the room nervously. He didnt know what to say to Meher. All this thing was making him very nervous.He had never been this nervous. He didnt know why Meher was making him nervous. there was something different about this girl he thought.
Preet reached Meher's room and knocked before entering. He waited for Meher to answer.
Meher(she was reading a book on her bed): aa jayay
Preet entered the room. Meher looked up and saw preet.
Meher: app ?(shocked and confused because when she was outside she didnt look at anyone so she didnt know who this was)
preet: hi i am preet
meher: ji(meher then remembered her mom mentioning the guys name. she got up from her bed and started staring at the ground. she didnt know why he was here)
preet(confused at meher's reaction): app meher hai na?
meher (she heard her name from his mouth for the first time): ji
preet(looking at the bed): main beth jaon?
meher (embarrassed): sorry. app bethiye.
preet(smiled to himself at her nervousness): app bhi beth sakti hain. app ka hi room hai. Meher sat down on the other side of the bed away from preet. she didnt want to be close to that guy.
preet (since meher was not talking he decided to talk): so app kya kerti hain?
meher: ji?
preet(smiling): ji kehne ke ilawa kya kerti hain app? parhai kaam job?
meher (she was trying to avoid his jokes and felt awkward): maine apna bachelors complete kerlia hai. kuch din pehle finals khatam hue the. filhaal kuch nahi ker rahi.
preet: good. education is very important. (he knew she was not going to ask as girls usually get shy in these situations so he started to tell about himself) maine mba kia hua wa hai aur ab main apne dad ka business sambhaalta hun. main paida india main hua tha magar raha canada main hun. dad ne ab business yahan transfer kerlia hai to hum sab bhi india aa gayay aur ab main hamara indian business sambhaalta hun.
meher( she realized he talks a lot. she didnt want to hide about harman from him so she decided to tell him before anything else happened. it was not preet's fault that she was in love with harman and he had all the right to know about the relation before he makes any decision): main app ko kuch batana chahti hun
preet: ji kahiyay
Meher took a long pause and Preet just stared at her waiting for her to talk.
