Thoda Thoda Pyaar
Chapter Six
Preet reached out and took his third laddoo from the plate on the coffee table, stuffing the whole thing into his mouth and closing his eyes at the delightful explosion of flavour within the mithai.
"Thoda humarey liye bhi toh chodo," Prem deadpanned.
Preet opened his eyes, surprised to find that his parents, his brother and Balraaj Uncle were all looking at him, amused. He swallowed and grinned sheepishly, running his hand through his hair. He was thankfully saved from explaining himself, though, as Teji Aunty led Meher and Heer honewali-Bhabhi out. (He would make sure that Heer was his Bhabhi, even if it meant threatening Prem. After all, having Meher as his sister-in-law's sister would simply be too much fun to pass up.)
The company rose to greet Heer. Preet reached out for another laddoo, but Lalit smacked the back of his head, and, making a face, Preet set the laddoo back down and stood up.
Having witnessed what transpired between father and son, Meher snickered.
Preet noticed, and he scowled, turning red.
Meher smirked back at him as Teji introduced Heer to the Junejas.
Preet made a face at her.
Meher responded by rolling her eyes and perching on the arm of the couch that Teji and Heer had settled into. Pointedly ignoring Preet, she instead turned her attention to her honewala-jijaji, taking the time to study him further.
She was rather surprised by what she saw. Pavan - no, wait...Arjun? Karan? She frowned. What was his name again? Dev?
"...Prem beta,..."
Prem! Right. Prem was rather red, looking down at his hands. He eyes kept flickering to Heer Didi, though, reminding Meher of a sharmaaye-ing ladkiwali. Amused, she turned her head to look at Heer, who was doing the same. She bit her lip hard, trying not to laugh. They were so cute! She had to do something!
"Maa," Meher said, interrupting some conversation that she hadn't even been listening to, "um, hum inn dono ko akele mein baatein karne dein?"
Both Prem and Heer instantly turned a similar shade of tomato-red, neither of them looking up. (Although from the look on Prem's face, he seemed awfully glad that Meher had suggested that.)
"Arre...lekin..." Teji stuttered, looking from Heer to Prem to Heer to Prem to Heer to Meher, who looked back at her mother innocently.
"Arre, Teji, tum bhool gayi, kya, ki humne bhi akele mein baatein kar lit hi?" Balraaj commented, causing Teji to blush furiously and mutter a barely-audible "Aap bhi na".
Lalit laughed, and Gayatri smiled.
"Bhabhi," Gayatri said, "agar dono akele mein baatein nahin karenge, toh ek doosre ko pasand kaise kar lenge?"
Teji still seemed rather reluctant to let her daughter alone with her husband's best friend's son.
"Maa, agar aap chaho toh main bhi unke saath jaa sakti bhoon," Meher suggested, deliberately ignoring the glare that Heer shot her way.
"Theek hai," Teji finally conceded, glancing apprehensively at Prem.
"In that case main bhi jaaoon?"
Everyone turned to look at Preet, who smiled brightly. Meher frowned, pursing her lips.
"Tum kyun jaaoge?" Lalit asked, voicing the question that was on all their minds.
"Arre, jab PB aur Heer Bhabhi - " (Heer blushed at being called that) " - akele mein baatein karenge, toh Meher ko bhi occupy karna hoga, na?" Preet asked, hiding a cheeky grin.
"Maine apna naam kahaan bataya?" Meher muttered darkly.
"Theek hai, theek hai, jisko bhi jaana hai, jaao," Balraaj announced.
Meher grabbed Heer's hand and pulled her up, leading her to the study, letting Prem and Preet follow behind.
Teji looked after them, trying her hardest to not get up and follow them.
