Recap: After soaking in her reflection, I went off to bed in Preet's room. Tossing and turning was the only thing I had done that night'..sleep was FAR away from me. And this was all because of her.

PART 13

Heer's POV

The sound of the alarm clock woke me up. I slowly opened my eyes and rose from the bed. I rubbed my eyes and loosely tied my hair back. That's when my eyes fell on his blazer which was resting in my lap and I was covered by a blanket as well. A broad smile came on my face when I recalled the moments that I spent with him last night. I softly kissed his blazer and hugged it close to my heart.

My eyes wondered around his room as I stretched and got up. That's when my eyes fell on the clock on the side table.

"Oh'sh*t'" I stared at the clock which read 7:30 am. I ran out the room and went to look for him, hoping that he wasn't late for work today. I looked everywhere but there was no sign of him anywhere.

Maybe he already left. Ugggggh'.why didn't I wake up? He must have skipped his breakfast? I was so angry at myself for not waking up but I couldn't overcome the fact that I got a peaceful sleep in a long time. I don't remember when I fell asleep as I was still in the same dress that I had on last night. May be was too sleepy and I slept on his bed. But why didn't he wake me up? This guy was extra nice to not to wake me up and he himself slept somewhere else. I smiled once again as I remember the time we spent together last night. But I let the thoughts go by and I went to take a shower and freshen up.

I took a warm shower for a several minutes and then dressed myself up in a simple navy colored salwar that had green sequins on the border of the salwar and on the dupatta. It was quite simple and really comfortable. I quickly combed my long, silky hair and clipped my bangs back by a ting clip. I put a tiny pinch of sindoor in my maang. As I put it on, I felt a sudden pride inside me for being a married woman. It didn't matter if I was treated like a wife because I knew that he treated me as a really close friend. And that's all that mattered. My neck always headed onto the delicate mangalsutra which I still hadn't taken off. It felt perfect where it really was and it looked great on me. The three diamond gems in the middle with a row of tiny black beads on each side gave it a delicate look. I smiled as I looked at it, put some eye-liner on, and went to the kitchen.

I went over to the counter and picked up a mug to make some fresh coffee. I opened the cabinet to get a mug out and started making coffee. After it was made, I sat on the table to drink it. I placed the mug on the table and turned to get something to eat. But I suddenly stopped. I turned back around to find a small note on the table next to where my mug was. I picked it up and opened the note to read it.

"Good Morning'

Sorry I left without telling you. But I had to go early today. New boss is here today so have to give him a good impression. I will be back late today so you can do whatever you want. But if you go out, then take care of yourself. Everyone is not nice out there so be careful. Make sure you make yourself comfortable and don't wait for me to eat, I will seriously get late. If you need anything, then just call on my cell. If you don't pick up, then call me office and ask for me. Today's your free day so have fun! And by the way, Maya is home today so if you get bored, then just call her up. She'll be glad to give you company. Take care'.

I couldn't stop from noticing the smile that was there on my face. He was quite responsible and organized. And from whatever he wrote, I could tell that he sincerely cared for me. Even if it was in a friendly way. This was totally not helping me overcome my feelings for him. I don't know about him but I was losing the fight my mind was playing against my heart. Heart was over powering big time.

I kept the note aside, drank my coffee and picked up my cell to call the person I was dying to talk to. My only family, my only relative, my only best friend in the world, the person I loved the most in this world''..my sister. I dialed up her number as my heart race increased. I leaned against the huge window in the kitchen and looked outside while her phone was ringing. After about 3 rings, she picked up.

"Hello'" she said in her innocent cute way. Tears welled up in my eyes by listening to her voice after such a long period of time. I hadn't talked to her for the last few months. I hated that step-dad of mine who sent her away to boarding school and kept her away from me. She was my only weakness and that's why he sent her away from me. This would only get me weaker.

"Hello'?" she said once again. I gulped down all my pain which I had been through in the last few weeks. And then it was silence on bother sides. I still kept quiet though.

"Didi'." She said with the same respect and affection in her voice as before.

"Aap kaisi ho didi''..didi'..bolo na'" she said. I could hear the pain in her voice.

"Meher'" I said softly and affectionately.

"God didi'.I missed you so much'..How are you?"she asked all excited.

"I am fine Meher'.Are you ok'..how are your studies'."I asked softly.

"Studies are great and I will graduate in 2 months'..then I will be back with you and we can both leave that hell of a house'.."she said sternly.

"Didi'..does he bother you'..and how is everything over there'..how come you haven't talked to me..."she asked the worry clear in her voice.

"Meher I am fine'I-" but she cut me off.

"No'.I know something is really wrong'..why didn't you call me in these few weeks'..and why do I feel as if you are hiding something from me. Please tell me didi'.Aap ko meri ka-" I instantly stopped her.

"Stop Meher'..kasam mat dena'..I will tell you everything when you come here'..and I swear, I am absolutely fine'..and to be honest, something happened and now I am as happy as ever'..but I just miss you a lot'."I calmly explained to her.

"I don't care'.I have off on Wednesday and I am coming to meet you'..I won't sit still until I see you safe and sound'"she stubbornly.

"But Meher'."

"Didi'I am not changing my decision'."

I gave up. "Fine'.but don't come home'..meet me at Mom's apartment''don't ask why now'.I will tell you everything later'.ok" I said hoping to hear a yes.

After a moment of silence she finally agreed. I changed the topic and we chatted about her finals coming soon and caught up of other events. I talked to her for over two hours and then I hung up because she had a lecture to attend. By that time, it was 9:30 and I decided to clean up the house. Not that it was messy, everything was organized. But I just dusted off a few things here and there. I cleaned the whole house and made it sparkle.

After cleaning everything for a few hours, I slumped onto the couch and listened to some radio. But suddenly the phone rang. I quickly turned the radio off and ran to get the phone from the kitchen. On the second ring I picked it up.

"Hello'." I said kindly.

"Yes hello'..I am Mr. Gupta, Preet's doctor. May I speak to Prem Juneja?" he asked politely. My heartbeats increased when I heard Preet's name. Was he okay?

"He's at work'.you can try his cell'." I said nervously.

"I tried several times but may be his phone isn't getting signal'." He said.

"Is'.is everything ok?" I asked nervously. I prayed to God and wished that he would be fine. There was a certain type of bond that I already formed with him.

"Yes'Would you please tell Prem that his brother's operation was successful and today he in conscious'.he can visit today'" he said in a happy tone.

My eyes welled up as I heard the great news.

"Thank you so much'." I could hardly get the world out. I was so happy.

"It's okay'but please do inform him'" he said.

"Yes'.I will'" and saying that I hung up the phone. I went straight to the mandir to thank God for making him alright. Prem is going to be so happy. I picked up a flower that had been resting need Lord Ram's feet. I picked it up and held it softly in my right hand as I dialed Prem's cell from my left hand. But the call wasn't getting transferred. I called the office number and asked the secretary for Prem.

"Hello'" I said.

"Yes'"

"Can I please talk to Prem'."

"He's busy'" said the cranky girl.

"But its urgent'" I pleaded.

"Hey'.didn't I just say he is busy'..now hang up'" she said. Now what was wrong with her? This lady needs to learn some manners. I hung up and then decided to leave on my own to check up on Preet. I kept the flower from the mandir in my hand, took my purse, and headed to the hospital to meet him.

After taking a taxi, I reached City Hospital. I went straight to the front desk and asked his room number.

"Umm'.May I know where Preet Juneja is'?" I asked the lady at the front desk politely. She was a middle-aged nurse and she had an affectionate smile on her face.

"Of course'.but how are you related to him'?" she asked me giving a broad smile. Without a second, I blurted out.

"I'm his bhabhi'.." I hit myself in my mind. This was something was I should have hid from her.

"Oh'ok''he is in room 125'." She said and I thanked her before I headed to see him.

"121'122'.123'.124''..125'yes'"

I stood at the doorway of the room and peeked through the window. There he was. He looked quite pale and but not as weak as I thought he would be. He had a baby-like face and a cute smile. His eyes were dark brown and some of his featured resembled Prem. A tube was attached to his right arm giving him sufficient amount of blood and there was a bandage on his forehead. His right leg was plastered. Maybe that's were he got hurt.

I closely watched him as the nurse tried to persuade him to eat something and he refused making the cutest face ever. I smiled at his child-like behavior. I couldn't stop myself from admitting how much he reminded me of my Meher. Only this was a male version and he wasn't my sister. But technically, he was my devar.

The nurse got tired of explaining to him so she headed to get the doctor for help. As the nurse walked out of the room, she noticed him. She gave me a smile and asked.

"Are you related to him''he is quiet a trouble when it comes to feeding him hospital food'" she said laughing.

"Yeah'..I just saw'."I said laughing back.

"Hey do you want to give it a try'..he knows you so he might listen to you'.he needs to eat something to recover soon'" she said holding out the tray which had tomato soup and a plain sandwich next to it. I hesitated for a second but gave in when she said that he needed to eat. I took the tray and went into the room to feed him.

As I walked in with the plate, his eyes fell on me. I gave him a smile and he slightly smiled back. But his smiled faded when he saw the tray in my hands.

"Please'not again. This food is not edible'..these nurses want to starve me to death by bring this food'" he mumbled. Wow'he even talks like Meher.

I walked closer to him and sat on the stool next to his bed while resting the tray on the side table in front of me. He examined my face as I examined his.

"You don't look like a nurse'..who are you?" he asked.

I froze and quickly thought of an excuse.

"Well'.I just saw you bother the poor nurse and not eat your food. Don't you want to recover soon and be healthy again? If you don't eat, then you won't get to go home. Just eat this for a little while and then you can eat whatever you want when you are nice and healthy'" I lectured him as he obediently listened to me.

"You sound EXACTLY like my brother'.he tells me this everyday and I give in to eating this crap'.."He said smiling at me. Of course he had to sound like me. I picked up the tray and took a spoon full of soup. I brought it close to his mouth and was surprised when he really drank the soup. He made the weirdest faces while drinking from the soup and made me laugh. After he finished his little lunch, I decided to leave so that he doesn't doubt me at all. But before I decided to leave, I took the flower that I had brought with me from the mandir at home. I took the flower out from my purse and placed it gently next to his pillow. Preet looked at me with a confused expression and then at the flower.

"What's this for'.." he asked me politely. I gave him a smile back.

"It will help you recover soon'." I said. He gave me a brotherly smile.

"Thanks'" he paused for a second and then said'"Didi'"

I looked at his glittering eyes. He looked so cute and my heart sank when I thought of his condition. I gently caressed his cheek as I got up to leave.

"I have to leave now'." I told him as I got up.

"But promise me that you will come to visit me''or I won't eat my food" he said as he crossed his arms across his chest. I laughed at his little tactics.

"You're such a drama-queen''" I said laughing at him.

"I don't care'..promise me" he said extending his hand out to me and gave me a pout. I put my hand in his hand and grinned.

"Now that you called me "didi"'..I guess I have to come and meet you'." I said nicely.

"Thank you'" he said and his smile came back on his face. "Bye'." He waved to me as I left.

As I stepped out of the hospital, the cool afternoon breeze gave me a refreshing feeling. I dialed up Prem's number once again but I still wasn't able to get a hold of him. Well'..may be when he comes home I can tell him. He will be so happy to know about it. I smiled at the thought of him and I recalled all the moments that I spent with my cute devar. He was adorable and why wouldn't he be'..he was Prem's brother after all. This was one bond that I had formed that I knew I would be able to hold onto forever. He called me didi and that's all I would ever ask from him.

After walking through the busy streets, I remember that Prem told me I would get good company from Maya. I quickly dialed up her number and on the second ring she picked up.

"Heerrrrrrrrr''.what's up yaar'?" she asked in an enthusiastic tone.

"Hi Maya'.I am fine'..got bored so thought we could hang out'" I said casually.

"Tell me about it'.so lets get together'..what about Rainforest caf'?" she asked.

"Um'..ok'..I will be there soon'bye"

"Bye Heer'..can't wait to meet you'.!" She said as she hung up. I took a taxi and headed for Rainforest Caf.

I reached the caf and as I was walking in, I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. I instantly turned around to find my newly made friend. She jumped into my arms and gave me a bear hug. I hugged her back. After we broke apart, she gave me a sweet smile.

"Hello Heer''.or should I say''.bhabhi'."she said smirking at me.

"Hi Maya'.and you don't have to call me bhabhi'" I gave her an assuring smile.

"I know'..but I like to call you that'.only if you don't mind'" she said cutely. How would I mind being called that? This word only linked me more to him.

"Of course not'.." I said patting her cheek. "Let's go'"

We both went inside and seated ourselves in a small table in the middle. We ordered our coffee and started to chat like we were best friends, which by now we truly were.

"So'.how everything?" she asked.

"Everything's fine'"

"And how is married life treating you'Is Prem being a good husband to you'?" she said being serious. I smiled at the mention of his name.

"Yes'..he is being a good husband." I said with a smile. That was sure true. I WAS deeply in love with him and who wouldn't be? I admit whatever he did to me was wrong, but his niceness overpowers that incident. And that is exactly what I fell for'.his respect, his loyalty, and his love for his family.

"I knew it'..Prem is a gem of a person and no one can resist from loving him'." She said. As we were sipping from our coffee, I decided to tell her about Preet.

"Maya'.the doctors call came today'..Preet is conscious now'." I said with the brightest smile ever. Maya's eyes widened in disbelief and a smile appeared on her face.

"Really'.oh my god! Heer can I meet him'.?" She pleaded.

"Of course you can'.his recovery is going on pretty fast'I just met him before I came here'.I tried calling Prem but his phone isn't getting signal and the receptionist wouldn't-" I stopped as she spoke up.

"I hate Sanjana'..that creepy girl is always after Prem'..I don't know what her problem is'..even when I call to talk to Prem, she gives me her good for nothing attitude'.." she said in a disgusted way. But out of everything she said, the only thing that affected me was that the creepy girl is always after Prem. I felt a jolt of jealousy in my heart but I tried my best to push it away.

"Can we go now'.please'..I am dying to see my teddy'" she said in a pleading way. I smiled at her cuteness and nodded. But wait, I can't go with her. He still doesn't know who I am. If he questions Maya of what I am doing with her, then the truth will come out. Prem might now be happy with this so I decided to make up an excuse.

"Um'.Maya..." I started off as we were walking out of the caf. "I already met Preet'.but he doesn't really know who I am'.don't mention anything about me to him."

Maya understood the situation.

"Prem will tell him when the right time comes'" I finished off."

"Ok'.no problem'..I won't say anything. Now let's go." She pulled me into her car and we drove off to go to the hospital.

Maya went inside his room to meet her teddy while I stayed outside to watch their brother-sister moment. After the meeting was over, Maya left for home as it was getting close to afternoon and Arjun might have gotten home. I went to the market to buy some vegetables and decided to go home and prepare dinner.

At around 6:30 I reached home and settled everything. I ate a juicy red apple as I was starving and then headed to the stove to make some dinner. I decided to make chole and puri.

After about an hour, I had everything ready and made. I cleaned everything up. After getting the kitchen clean, I went to Prem's rest and instantly made myself fall on the table. I stared at the ceiling thinking of him. Then I recalled the moments that I spent with Preet and how much he reminded me of Meher. The encounter between Maya and Preet was a treat to watch as the brother-sister duo caught up on their life.

But my thoughts were disrupted by my cell phone that rang. I quickly grabbed it from the side table and looked to see who it was. Seeing the name flashing, I instantly straightened up and pressed talked.

"Heer'..are you ok'.I saw you miss calls'..is everything alright?" he asked in a concerned tone. I smiled at his eagerness.

"I'm fine Prem'." I said and I heard him sign.

"Thank god'.I was so worried'..stupid phone wasn't getting any network'" he said. "But why did you call'?"

"I wanted to tell you about Preet'.the doctor called and he said that his operation was successful and now he is conscious." I informed him with great happiness.

There was just silence for a second and then he spoke up.

"Are'..are you'.serious..." he barely put his sentence together. "I can't believe it'.." I could feel as if he was giving his million dollar smile.

"He's perfectly fine'.and don't worry if you can't meet him today'.Maya told him that today was an important day for you'.and besides, he is feeling much better'.." I assured him. And I decided to add it. "I went to see him'."

"You did'.how was he'? "He sounded quite surprised as well.

"He veryyy cute'..just like you'." I said and instantly bit my tongue.

Silence took over once again until he softly said...

"Happy to know that you met him''..and I'm glad you think I am cute'" he slightly laughed. I made up an instant excuse and decided to hang up.

"I have to go'.ghar jaldi aa jaana'." I quickly said and hung up. I was not going to fall for his charms right now. But whatever I said was the truth. He was very very very very very very cute!

I got up from his bed and went into the living room to read the magazine fro a while until he returned. It was already 8:35 so I spent my time watching TV and flipping through the magazines.

Over 3 hours passed and there was still no sign of him. He did tell me to not wait for him. But it didn't feel right to eat alone without him. I walked into the kitchen and glanced at the over to see what time it was. It read 11:40. Almost midnight. He must be on his way. I sat on the dining table and wondered about how close we both already were. Did he accept me as a good friend? Does he still feel guilty of what he did? Hope not. I laid my arm on the table and rested my head on it. As I was thinking of him, I felt sleep over take me. Soon I was in deep sleep, but in my mind still waiting for him.
