Chapter 13
"Prem, come. There is a beach-side party today. It will be fun!" Sameer asks me as I sit beside my big sea-view window playing on my iPhone.
"Nah..You can you go." I reply, not interested to leave.
"Come on Prem! The people here say that this party is one of the most loved and successful parties. And waise bhi, Heer is coming, and you know her better then I do, so atleast aakar todhi madat toh karde na yaar." Sameer says pleading me to come to the party.
My eyes lift up on Heer's name and it is then that I begin to get curious about the party. "Heer?" I ask.
Sameer nods his head.
"Okay, I will just get ready and meet you downstairs." I ask.
Sameer smiles and turns around towards the door when he turns around to me again. "By the way Prem, and while you are at it, can you give Heer a call and tell her that I am coming to pick her up?" Sameer asks politely.
"Pick her up to go where and why?" I ask, trying to enquire as to where my friend here, was going to take MY Nerd Girl.
"Prem, You have turned so suspicious. I want to pick Heer up to take her to the beach. Actually..you know, she might get lost in this big city...just trying to guide her." Sameer says, trying to show off and really meaning that a girl like Heer would actually get lost in a city like this.
"Ya ya, Sameer, if you go and pick her up right now, don't you think she might feel a little weird? And to add on to that, don't you think it is a bit impossible for her to get lost in this city, if all she has to do is walk from her cottage to the beach, which is only 1 kilometre far, isn't it?" I say, trying to knock some sense into Sameer.
"Oh, true Prem. Thanks for your help buddy" Sameer says smiling and departs from my bedroom, leaving with to be relieved and to take a deep breath.

I ring the bell to Heer's cottage and she finally opens the door after 4 rings.
"Oh sorry Prem. I was in the washroom." she says while I just stare at how nice she looked by wearing capris and a sapgetti top. Simple and sexy.
"Don't worry about it. I was just wondering, do you want to go to the beach-side party? I heard it is one of the best parties here." I say, shoving of the same lines Sameer had told me, with a little bit of Prem Juneja added to them.
"Of course. Just gimme a minute." Heer leaves me standing outside and goes inside and comes outside in 2 minutes. The shortest time any of my girlfriends ever took.
"Ready?" I ask, after she locks her cottage door. She smiles at me, and we begin our walk through the clear, star-filled night sky.

The party really was beautiful. It was just amazing. The bonfire. The games. The stories. The bonfire saw some confessions happening, while some people just said some jokes. It was basically a party to bring a smile on everyone's faces.
"Hey Prem!" Sameer says, coming up to Heer and me.
Heer and I turn around to look at him.
"Oh hey Sameer, how are you?" Heer asks in a very polite and friendly gesture.
Sameer smiles as if he were on cloud nine. Ofcourse he was. Who wouldn't be?
"Heya Heer. I was just wondering, since everyone is having a dance, I wanted to ask if you would like to have this dance with me?" Sameer asks, getting down on his knees, and placing his hand out for Heer. Heer looks at me, with a questionable expression and I give her a hopeful smile. She then turns around to Sameer and slides her hand into his.
"Ofcourse" Heer says, giving her best smile to him. Sameer smiles and takes Heer away while I just keep watching in shock. So easily, so easily he took MY Nerd Girl away from me.
I go and sit down near the bonfire, gulping down my alcohol and watching my best friend dance with my nerd girl. I watch as he slides his hand through her waist and clutching her tightly against his chest. His hand against hers. I watch as he twists and turns around. Both of them enjoying the dance very much. I sip down my batch of alcohol, with a feeling that I don't know how to describe in words. It is just there. The dance finally ends and Heer takes a break from Sameer and walks over to me and sits down beside me.
"Oh God Prem! You should have been there! The dance was so fun." Heer says, enthusiastic about the dance.
"Ya whatever." I get up from the ground and am about to leave, when my ex-girlfriend, Ria comes.
"There you are Prem" she says, giving me a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek. I return the same kiss back, half drunk.
"Ria?" I say, drunk.
"You remember me huh? Prem, you don't know how much I missed you. Sameer told me you were in Goa...that is why I came here." Ria says, sliding her finger on my face, while I can see Heer almost ready to cry from the corner of my eyes.
"Prem, you don't know how much I love you. Day and night, I keep thinking about us. I want you back in my life Prem. I want you back." she says, forcibly trying to kiss me on the lips. I move away from her, and tumble and wobble towards my room.

That night I drink a lot. I keep drinking till I am tired and my body can't take it anymore. What was happening to me? I never used to be like that, then why now? Why was I being so possessive about Heer that it hurt me to see her even talk to my best friend? Why? Did I love her? Did she love me? I had to ask her. I had to make this clear. She had to choose.
