Guzarish - A Request
"We need a singer for the 2009 Band Hunt, oh and not to forget a dance partner for me for the India-wide dance competition."
I walked back and forth in the caferteria wanting ideas for his question but Nihaal, Preet, Harman and the 2 side-kicks sat there as if they were playing a game of Wax Museum and I was the detective. Preet was the first one to finally manage to talk.
"You know what PB? Just relax. We will find someone. Waise bhi, Maya hai naa, she will sing. Kyun Harman?"
Harman stuck a tongue out at Preet. I coughed wanting to get thier attention. I gestured in a "Are you kidding? Maya and singing?" way while Nihaal just shrugged his shoulders.
"Be practical Preet. Maya is a terrible singer. If she starts singing then instead of being hounoured by rewards, we will end up getting bombared with veggies."
I was being sarcastic but whatever I said, was true. She really WAS a bad singer.
"What? That was just a suggestion" replied Preet.
"Sssh". I placed a finger on my lips. I heard a noise. It looked like it was coming from one of the classrooms. I followed it and the rest followed me, confused as ever. The voice pulled me towards it...as if it wanted me to come. As I got closer, I was able to make the words out. The voice was sweet, shy but yet looked like it was singing to the best of it's ability but the voice could do better.
"Ishq a gallan, kar gayiaan challan
Jis Nu Lag Jaye, Ho jaye kalla"
I kept listening and moving closer. The song was now changed. It was something else now. Something like...
"Hulchul Hui
Hulchul Hui
Zara shor hua
Dil chor hua
Jaise chale jab hawa
Ishq hua hi hua"
I stood holding one ear against the biology room doors and listened in aw. The voice was AMAZING! Exactly what I wanted. Suddenly the voice stopped and I decided it was time for me to find out who this marvelous voice belonged to.
I opened the door and peeked inside. The tall lean figure had her back turned towards me. I stepped inside and started clapping.
"Hi, I am Prem...and you are?"
The girl turned around, her hair swining back. The girl was none other then....
