hello back. i'm not sure i get the difference between
old and new members. but there are indeed posts that get a lot of responses/discussion and those that don't. i think the difference between first (where a lot of it may not be discussion about the topic!! 🤣) and the second are a couple or more things:
1. the language of the post -- many times i read posts where i just don't get what is written. the grammar is bad. spellings are bad. sentences don't exist. half the sentence is in hindi, half in english i get really stumped at what to reply.
2. one of the understood norms on the forums are that the topics
have to have something to do with the show. for instance, this post that you have begun has
nothing to do with the show. so it is not very likely to get much discussion -- after all, we're here to talk 'bout theshow.
3. lastly, after reading this post, i am stumped as to how it can open upto discussion. it's a (forgive my frankness but since you started a frank post, i thought it's okay to be frank back...) rather negative post - it is critical of members, not specific ones though. yet another "understood norms" on the forum is that members ought not to be criticised. they are real people and can get hurt. and seriously, how else can you respond to a post like this one -- rather than get preachy, which i am afraid i am doing 🤢?
me? i think that there are things that people get attracted to discuss. there are things that are boring.
what falls
where, is a democratic choice. you are right -- you can't force people to discuss things they don't wanna.
but i've noticed photocaptures, vms, stories, discussions of the story lines -- what is being shown, or what could be shown -- all these get discussed. posts written clearly get discussed. posts with funny commentary about the show gets discussed (example: anything that triv (power20)/the mnsters write! 🤣) if you will notice, all these posts take a
lot of time and effort on the person who makes the post. whereas there are lots of posts that are totally thoughtless and don't get discussed -- but i don't get very surprised at that -- are you?
ultimately it is all about whether it captures the interest of the reader
and whether there is scope for someone to reply!
you're new here. not sure i'm that old. i have written posts that no one reads 😆. i have written posts that people read but no-one replies to (apparently i write
really long posts - do i? 😆). i have written posts that people read and reply to. maybe - you just have to keep trying - with different topics, different styles of writing - and see what gets a discussion going? spending time on writing something like this, with this ... um ... tone? may not be quite the nicest way to get a discussion going. and on a nice forum, one likes to be nice back, no? that's what keeps
me going... 😆
