Does India not have a broadcasting complaints board? So instead of the government playing watchdog, the public has the right to complain if they see anything objectionable on their screens. Thereafter investigations are held and the broadcaster has the right to defend themselves or be held accountable for what was shown. It's a lengthy process but it's better than outright censorship and after a while the broadcasters self-regulate the contents they screen.

I don't think theere is a broadcasting complaints commission in india But there definately should be one, so viewers can complain about scenes, mockery of religion, etc.
