Even as the India-Australia series is brimming with racism and sledging controversies, another cricket match that took place here in Mumbai on Saturday morning was free of disputes and full of fun. As television's Boxy Boyz played against the Bombay Gymkhana team (as part of the 75-year celebrations of the first Test played at Bombay Gymkhana versus England, Dec 15-18 1933), there were cheers, some tears and oodles of good cricket. Yes, and a streak of competition too, but all in the spirit of the game. The Bombay Gym lads batted first and put up a total of 173-4 in 25 overs, with Shabbir Ahluwalia claiming two wickets, and Varun Badola and Krishh one each. The Boyz then won the match scoring 174-5 in 23.5 overs. Mohit Mallick made 90 not out, while Anand Suryavanshi scored 40 runs. Also in the winning team were Vikas Sethi, Dilip Agarwal, Anupam Bhattacharya, Indraneil Sengupta, Bakhtyaar Irani and Kabir Sadanand. A pregnant-and-loving-every-moment-of-it Tanaaz Irani and Rajeshwari Sachdev came along to cheer on their husbands, Bakhtyaar and Varun. Off-screen too, TV sure makes a mark, what say? |
