Dating for me would be a cup of coffee and a movie: Panchi Bora
September 29th, 2008
Where did you grow up?
I had to move around a lot as my father was in military. My critical years of 8-9-10th standards and my board exam were done from Army School in my home town Guwahati and after that I joined my college in Pune and that was a big change and by 18. I think I cleared my class 12th .
Were you a good student?
Yes of course I was a good student, amongst the top five (laughs). I always took my studies seriously but was always confused about my career. At 18 I was very confused since my 12th was over and I didn't know what to do next.
What was the worst popular trend when you were going to college?
Ok let me think. Hmmm, I think it's the low waist jeans which were in trend (laughs); very girly thing (laughs again).
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I was confused and worried about what to become when I grew up. Even when my professors asked me, I used to get very confused. I opted for law and then realized that law was a wrong decision. Then I went about giving audition for television and that was the time I started with modeling too. I got my first portfolio clicked at 18, so I was very excited about that. I did a Cadbury commercial that time where the montage ends with Amitabh Bachchan and another girl. It was the first time that I faced the camera and I was very excited about it and very happy to be a part of that ad.
What is the craziest thing you ever did to let a guy to notice you?
I think I was quiet lucky enough since guys always noticed me. I never went out of my way to let some one follow me or know me. I think that's the best way to let a guy notice you, just pretend to ignore him and he will start noticing you. That's the mantra( laughs)
What was your fashion mantra when you were 18? What is it like now?
Fashion for me at college was always simple and descent. I never went over the top. Whole day we used to hang around with friends so it was more like simplicity, comfort and we used to go for shopping mostly. I did a lot of window shopping and all (laughs). I still do a lot of window shopping; (laughs again). I think I really enjoy it. It is very difficult for me to shop so I usually end up doing window shopping and buying nothing.
What were your hobbies back then and now?
Reading books, watching movies and that to first day, first show. Now I can't do that unfortunately because of my busy schedule. Now my biggest time pass is chatting on the internet. I just hook to the net and that occupies most of my time, even more than T.V. You can't call it hobby but it is my favorite pass time. It's the best way to keep in touch with my friends.
What rumors were people spreading about you then and now?
Fortunately, at that time there were no rumors. Now there are all those false rumors spreading around (laughs).
What nick names did you have back then and now?
Some of my friends called me Punch, Little Birdie and lots of them. Now my close friends do call me Punch, and some still call me Little Birdie.
Who were your best friends? Are they still friends with you?
(Thinks), best fiends were very few but there were lot of friends. I still consider my school friends as my best friends like Barsha, Anshul and others. Yes they are still my friends. It's my childhood friends mostly who are still in touch with me. I take time but I make friends for lifetime (laughs).
What did you do for fun? and now?
Best part of having fun was when I went with my friends during college time and I had an option of either sky diving or bungee jumping. All the risk was on us. I did not have enough money to try out bungee jumping as at that time you get a limited pocket money. I still remember bungee jumping was 500 bugs and the other was 400 bugs. So I went for 400 bugs and when I flew in the air I felt like I was on the top of the world; that was the best part of my life. I enjoyed so much and it was great thrill.
What was your favorite hang out?
Hangout was always Caf Coffee day, Pizza Hut and during college there was a place called 'Vaishali', a very popular restaurant where the best dosas where prepared in Pune. You will find people of every age group there.
Was Valentine's Day important for you? What was your idea of dating back then?
I didn't had any boyfriend so it was like any other day for me, still the expectations were always there in college that someone will land up with bunch of roses. But that never happened (laughs). Usually all our friends who did not had boyfriends used to go out together, buying gifts for each other.
Dating for me would be a cup of coffee and a movie. I think that is more than enough. I am from a small town, so I think I am happy with that much only. I am happy that I haven't changed and I am still the same small town girl. If a guy asks for a coffee I will think ten times and probably say no to his offer (laughs). It takes time for me to know a person.
What advice did your parents give you when you were 18? and now?
There were many loads of them like, be home before seven in the evening, avoid bad companions, have home made food, etc. My mom was always worried about my health as she thinks I am too thin (laughs). Now according to my working schedule my mom has accepted it that I can't be home for lunch and now I have the liberty to work as per my schedule. I do have a boy whom I call Krishnada to look after my food all the time (laughs). I still can't go alone anywhere as my mom is very over protective.
What did you worry about back then and now?
I used to love bunking classes in college, so the worry was about the attendance because otherwise you have to pay a fine and also collect notes from regular students at the last moment was a big headache. Now finally I am a graduate and I am thinking what to do next apart from acting. I am little worried about my career as I want to do something side by side apart from acting. I want to do (Mass Com) but again I think I won't be able to give time to it.
Who was your sweetheart in college and now?
No, no one. I was always in search for my Mr. Right but I couldn't find one. It was like all the boys were eeehh! I couldn't find the one whose picture is in my mind and now I feel that there is nothing like Mr. Right (laughs).
With which celebrity you wanted to go to an isolated island? What will be your naughtiest fantasy with him?
Ummm (thinks)! I think it has to be Enrique. I think he is very cute and I love his voice and he has got good looks too. There was no naughtiest fantasy and anyways why should I tell you (laughs). It's a secret (laughs).
Does 'BEING 18' hold any significance for you?
Yes. I think those days are the best days of your life and off course at 18 you know you get entries for adult movies (laughs). I think I enjoyed my teen age a lot (laughs).
