"I, Shahrukh unlock KBC"

Tuesday, January 23, 2007 09:15:05 am

Indian audiences glued to the small screen on Monday (Jan 22) night at 9 pm. The new season of KBC on Star Plus started, but the popular host had changed. The old don has been replaced by the new one. There were speculations whether SRK will be live upto the expectations.

Khan showcased his Hindi speaking skills, mingled and interacted with the audience in his own unique style.

However, at the end of the show, the verdict was mixed. Some people felt that Khan is not that charismatic as Big B, while diehard Shahrukh fans had all kinds of support for him.

King Khan has had the nation riveted. Each little detail of the Bollywood Badshah's foray into television has been keenly followed as the credits rolled on the latest edition of Kaun Banega Crorepati. Khan showcased his Hindi speaking capabilities and mingled with the masses completely.

Big B had managed to elevate the quiz show, which helped to tide over the financial crisis he had been in, virtually reviving his career and making him one of India's priciest brand ambassadors.

The third edition of KBC in 2007, the baritone is missing, so is the all pervading presence of Big B.

SRK is after all the choice of the young generation, a superstar who is keenly aware of his strengths and already strategising subtly steer viewer preferences to his playing turf.

Badshah bada Dilwala Hai!

Shahrukh Khan gifted a KBC participant his own TAG Heuer watch costing Rs. 1,28,000 on Salman's suggestion before the game show began.

Sallu bhai… Bade Dilwala Hai... Very few know that the Salaam-e-ishq star has the habit of giving away expensive gifts to whoever catches his fancy.

Few months back Sallu had gifted Zayed Khan two Rolex watches, each costing somewhere between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh! In fact, so far Salman has gifted watches that cost a total of Rs. 3 crore. Shahrukh Khan had got one when he bonded with him during their Karan Arjun days way back in mid 90s.

Abhishek had got one as a reward after Dhoom and Farah Khan before Main Hoon Na. Then there were technicians of Tumko Na Bhool Payenge, Willard Carroll his Marigold actor, and also Will Smith when he had visited India early last year.

The controversial Khan's family members have taken extreme measures to control Salman's gifting spree. They have instructed the people who work with him to stop him from gifting away things. They are allowed to try arguing, stopping him, snatching away the gift or any means possible, but if they fail they will lose their job!

Well, we wait to see how well our Badshah Khan picks up this new habit, considering he gifted a TAG Heuere in the very second episode of the grand game show!

King Khan Rules Tihar

(Tihar is the Central jail in New Delhi)

They are fans ShahRukh Khan will probably not like to acknowledge. But the Bollywood badshah, who has donned the garb of a quizmaster, bowled over Tihar inmates as KBC returned to the small screen on Monday in its third avatar.

Almost all the inmates sat glued to the TV set placed in the jail's entertainment secion from 9pm to 10pm. As SRK talked, joked, quizzed and even massaged the neck of a contestant, he certainly rocked, shocked and awed the jailbirds.

"The inmates were so eager to watch their hero play his new role that they had finished all their work well before the show started. Even those who usually sleep very early stayed awake," a jail official said.

The prisoners started gathering at the entertainment room from 8pm itself and there was a scramble to sit closest to the TV to have the best view of the star.

The jail's most high-profile guest, Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav watched the show on his personal TV in his cell. He extended the privilege to a few other inmates of his cell and they thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated Khan's jokes.

Other high profile inmates like Manu Sharma and Romesh Sharma were seen testing their own general knowledge.

As the show started the Bachchan vs Khan debate started among the inmates too. But soon they became totally engrossed and when the show ended, they all avowed not to miss even one episode.

Move over Amitabh Bachchan, ShahRukh Khan has come to rule Tihar.

SRK, KBC crew gets together for first episode

Taj Lands End in suburban Mumbai sure had a buzz to it last night.

Star and Synergy had organized a launch party to celebrate the launch of KBC's new season. Food, drinks and laughter were in huge supply as everyone took their respective seats as soon as the KBC music video hit the screens. Couple of minutes before the show began, ShahRukh Khan, the star of the evening, arrived and took his seat with the rest of the guests.

The smile on SRK's face continued to widen as he heard the response and appreciation from the crowd gathered at the back – some of whom were seeing the complete episode for the first time. Mid-way through the programme both of SRK's kids – Aryan and Suhana - dropped in to lend support to daddy dearest. Mushtaq Sheikh, close friend of the star, came as well. Ganesh Hegde seemed happy to with the reaction of the crowd as everyone present couldn't help but shake a leg and bob their heads to the song.

By the time the programme ended not a single mobile phone in the venue stopped ringing. From SRK's friends to the man himself, everyone could only be heard thanking the callers for their appreciation of SRK's work on the show.

"I think the music video came out brilliantly. Shah Rukh was quite happy with it as well. As for the programme I think he has done a great job and will continue to rock the show," says close friend and colleague, Ganesh Hegde, who conceptualized, sang and choreographed the KBC music video.

A guest from another party taking place at the venue decided to see what all the commotion was all about. When he realized it was KBC and SRK was present himself he forgot all about attending the party he was there for in the first place. "He's doing such a great job. All through the one hour I was only smiling and it looked like two friends catching up. Since I can't gate crash this party, please convey my wishes of a job brilliantly done to him," says the guest.

When Brinda tickled SRK

The model is ecstatic about grooving with the superstar in KBC 3's music video

By: Vickey Lalwani

Model Brinda Parekh is known as Bindaas Brinda to her friends. The otherwise bold Brinda, who is now seen in the Kaun Banega Crorepati music video, went weak in her knees when she got up close and personal with ShahRukh Khan, when she had to tickle his ear with her lips.

Says Brinda, "It wasn't an easy shot for me. I was definitely very nervous. I still shudder when I think about it. I kept telling Mr Khan that my lipstick was leaving marks on his ears., but he was so cool. He even extended his hand when I was wearing my heels. He is a perfect gentleman."

Unforgettable

Brinda first got a call for doing the video from a model co-ordinator. She did not know the music video was meant for KBC. "I didn't know I was going to be working with ShahRukh Khan. Only after I met the Red Chillies Entertainment people that I realised I was heading for an unforgettable moment in my life."

Talking about her experience with SRK, Parekh says, "He came and extended his hand, saying 'Hi, I am Shah Rukh'. I could not control my laughter. And again, when I bent down to wear my heels, he offered his hand to me. I didn't know whether to hold it or not, but I did. That will always remain in memory."

No to sidekicks

The model could have been a part of Madhur Bhadarkar's Traffic Signal too, but refused the film as the role wasn't meaty. "I have worked with Madhur in Corporate and enjoyed it a lot. The Traffic Signal role was good but not too long. At this point of time, I want to do substantial roles."
So what meaty roles are coming up? "Well, I am in advanced stages of talks for a film which stars Sunny Deol. That's a meaty role and I am looking forward to it," she says.

On date, Brinda is awaiting the release of Ek Se Bure Do starring Arshad Warsi, Anita Hassanandani and Rajpal Yadav, where she has done an item number. The film has been ready for at least 18 months now, but has not seen the light of day.

Bachchan loyalists launch spoof KBC 3

By: A hitList Correspondent
January 25, 2007

RUMOUR HAS IT...

That SaharaOne has intentionally launched the spoof Kaun Banega Champu to take on Kaun Banega Crorepati. In Kaun Banega Champu, slated to air from February 11, anchor Ruk Ruk Khan (Sunil Grover) engages the celebrity (Suresh Menon) to play in this quiz show. Dahlings, you don't have to be a nuclear scientist to fathom the Sahara-Bachchan connection.

We all know how the Sahara bigwigs are extremely close to the Big B and his close aide Amar Singh.

Obviously, it was a good ploy to reduce KBC's present host Shah Rukh Khan into a caricature. How come they did not think of this spoof all these years when the Big B used to anchor the show?

Ouch! That really hurts!

King Khan dons new role

Tuesday, January 23, 2007: (Mumbai):

The wait is finally over. After days of preparation, speculation and promotions, King Khan took the hotseat.

The most awaited programme on the small screen, the first episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati-III was aired on Monday.

And despite the initial anxious moments about his new role, Shah Rukh looked at ease.

"I hope to charm the audiences. I am going to bring my jokes," said the King Khan.

And as he spent a better part of the day visiting his fans, friends and colleagues in the film industry were clearly rooting for him. "He is electrifying," said Mira Nair, filmmaker.

"He has his own charm," said actor Arshad Warsi.

The verdict did you ask? Lock Kiya Jaye!

KBC - Kaun Banega Champu?

By IndiaFM News Bureau
January 25, 2007 - 10:29 IST

Yes, you have heard it right. The show will be a spoof on the ongoing highly popular television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by ShahRukh Khan.

The spoof will be aired on Sahara Filmy in the first week on February and will have stand-up comedian Sunil Grover as Ruk-Ruk Khan. In every episode, you will see Sunil in a new avatar adding his touch of humour to the show.

And now to tell you a little more about the show; the show will see Ruk Ruk Khan inviting celebrity guests to play the game. Like the original version, this show too has exciting and hatke prizes to offer after every paadav (as it is called in the original one). The contestants have been offered prizes like 'jumma ka chumma' (a kiss from Jumma), 'kholi no. 420' (Room No. 420) and even 'maa ka aashirwad' (mother's blessings). And for the lifelines….. sorry the pipelines (as they would be called on this show) there will be options like audience jhol, kaun hai friend and sexy 20.

So ladies and gentlemen, watch out for Kaun Banega Champu because 'Kuch sawaal aapki zindagi barbaad kar sakte hain!'

Cricketer pads up for crore

NILANJANA GHOSH CHOUDHURY

Jamshedpur, Jan. 24: A guest from the steel city could soon face ShahRukh Khan on the hot seat.

As the country is gripped by the Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) fever, 31-year-old Rakesh Kumar Singh, a businessman and an A-division cricketer, may soon get an opportunity to share the limelight with Khan.

Come February 13, and Singh would try his luck in the popular television series. "I got a confirmation from the KBC team on Monday and I would be leaving for Mumbai on February 12. The shooting would take place on February 13 for the 21st episode of the series," said Singh.

If he is able to make it to the hot seat, Singh would be the third person from the steel city to have made it this far.

Prior to this, D.V. Kiran of Jamshedpur Public School and Mayank Medirratta, a student at XLRI, won rich awards in the game show. While Kiran won Rs 6 lakh, Medirratta participated with his father in the family special episode and won a whopping Rs 50 lakh.

Singh, an avid quizzer from his school days at Rajendra Vidyalaya, is currently busy preparing for the show.

Though initially hesitant, he later revealed his technique of "brushing up" before the show. "I am reading all editions of Mastermind India, Indian mythologies and lots of literature on current affairs," said Singh, who would head for Mumbai with his father.

For someone who has won several quiz shows in the past, getting selected for the fastest finger round, however, was not an easy task.

Singh reveals: "I underwent three gruelling rounds before being short-listed for the final round." Though he has achieved his dream of making it to the show, the absence of Amitabh Bachchan would be hard to miss. "I wish he was my host, but Shah Rukh, too, is great," he said.

Meet Shah Rukh's Tamil voice...

Meet Shekar - SRK's voice in a local (Tamil) edition of KBC3...

ShahRukh Khan seems to speak in the mothertongue of his Kaun Banega Crorepati contestants quite well. But when you switch on the popular gameshow on Vijay TV, it's not SRK's voice you're listening to. It is 28-year-old Shekar's.

Shekar does it all SRK-style -- stutters, stammers and shivers in Tamil -- exactly as SRK does in the Hindi version.

But Shekar says, in his career as a dubbing artist, imitating SRK has been one of the toughest jobs he has done so far.

Coming from a family of theatre and film artistes (Shekar's father, the late K P Rudrapathy was a theatre artist and his uncle A P Nagarajan has directed memorable films like Thillana Mohanambal, Navarathri and Thiruvilayadal), it was natural for Shekar to start a career in acting.

But it was P C Sreeram who recognised the talent in his voice when he was just a child. That's when Shekar started dubbing for other child artistes.

The first assignment as an adult dubbing artiste was for Ajith for his second film, Pavithra. "Ajith sat next to me and watched me dub," he says. "I didn't know then that one day he would be the 'Ultimate Star'. Later, I dubbed for Abbas, Tarun, Vineet, Shaam and Richard."

Shekar has also been writing Tamil dialogues for Warner Brothers' animated movies, besides scripting a 100 dubbed films for Vijay TV and another 50 for others.

The first Bollywood actor for whom he dubbed (in Tamil) was Aamir Khan for Rangeela. "Dubbing for Aamir was easy because I speak like him," Shekar says.

KBC is not Shekar's first dubbing assignment for SRK. Earlier, he dubbed for him in Swades, which was called Desam in Tamil.

"I was acting in my first film as a hero when the writer of Desam, Bharani told me there was a voice test for Shah Rukh. I listened to SRK's voice for an hour and found it difficult to catch his pace and delivery. But I did a test dubbing for him. My voice was sent to (director) Ashutosh Gowarikar and his team. Soon, I got a letter from Gowarikar saying that he was happy with my voice.

At the music launch, A R Rahman said this is the best voice of Shah Rukh. What better compliment can I get after struggling for six whole days for Desam?" Shekar asks.

The KBC offer came from Seventh Channel, which also did the dubbing work for the show when it was hosted by AMitabh Bachchan.

"The first episode was tough because I had to match Shah Rukh's speed. While scripting itself, I have started planning how to dub. Because I am very fluent in Tamil and I know Sanskrit, it is not that difficult to keep pace with his delivery. I am talking like Shah Rukh now," he says.

Unfortunately, Shekar could not watch the first KBC episode as he was busy with dubbing for the second one. Soon after, his phone has not stopped ringing, as congratulatory calls kept pouring in.

The biggest compliment came from his mother. "She hugged me and said, I can't believe you are speaking so fast!' My mother has seen only the quiet me and there on television, I was continuously talking! She was very happy," he says.

Now, he thinks he's 'going mad'. His conversation with his mother goes like this: "Amma, what is there for dinner today? A. Samabar B. Rasam C Thayir Saatham.'

Though he has given his voice to many heroes, Shekar says this is the first time that he has been recognised for his voice. "I have to thank Shah Rukh for that. Nobody knew I had dubbed for Abbas or Ajith or Vineeth. Now, everyone knows I am Shah Rukh's voice," he beams.

Is Shah Rukh his favourite hero? "One of my favourites. My favourites are Kamal Haasan and Sivaji Ganesan."

Now, all he wants is a call from ShahRukh Khan. "I hope he calls me. I really want to talk to him and tell him that I'm his Tamil voice."
