Following the death of industrialist Sunjay Kapur, a complex legal battle has unfolded, involving his widow, Priya Sachdev, and his children from his previous marriage to Karisma Kapoor. Adding to the turmoil, Sunjay's mother, Rani Kapur, has also entered the fray, filing a lawsuit against Priya. Rani alleges that Priya has improperly taken control of Sunjay's estate, leaving her financially vulnerable. Furthermore, Karisma and Sunjay's children, Samaira (20) and Kiaan (14), have initiated their own legal action, accusing Priya of forging Sunjay's will after his passing.
The legal proceedings are currently underway in the Delhi High Court, where all involved parties presented their arguments on Wednesday. Kiaan and Samaira are asserting their claim to their father's inheritance, while Priya maintains that the will adequately addresses their interests. Rani Kapur has accused Priya of both excluding her from the estate and planning to liquidate her son's assets.
Rani Kapur has strongly criticized the will, describing the process as unholy. "Today, I have nothing. I have written at least 15 emails asking about the will, what are the documents? Not a word has been shared. I have been told that my emails have been compromised. There is something incredibly unholy. ?10,000 crore worth of assets should have been mine. I am 80 years old. Mother, her vested interest goes into trust. All gone. I am nowhere. Ms Sachdeva (Priya) comes in, and within three months of her getting married, everything goes? My son today leaves me with not a roof on my head," her counsel, senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, asked.
The Delhi High Court has directed Priya Sachdev to disclose all of Sunjay Kapur's assets, both movable and immovable, as of June 12, 2025. However, Priya's legal representative, senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, has argued that the lawsuit against her is not legally valid.
Karisma Kapoor's marriage to businessman Sunjay Kapur in 2003 was a significant event, celebrated with a high-profile Sikh wedding in Mumbai. The couple had two children, Samaira and Kiaan. They initiated divorce proceedings by mutual consent in 2014, which were finalized in 2016. Sunjay later married Priya Sachdev in 2017.
Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12 during a polo match in England. While initial reports suggested a heart attack, allegedly triggered by swallowing a bee, the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed. This tragic event has led to a complex legal battle.
