my previous job was a creative one and so it was very natural to have long discussions on all sorts of minor details. we would not hold back. if you come from such an industry/company, you would not find the discussion between katha and viaan within the team as rude or even unusual.

there is no heirachy when we are throwing out ideas and dissecting them. it is simply part of a creative process where we are trying to refine what we were doing and everyone understands the debate is part of the process to make it better. this kind of creative collaboration is very common in certain industries.

however, if your industry or profession does not have that kind of creative component and there is a top-down heirachy, katha's debate with viaan can seem unprofessional.

that said, where katha's actions are questionable and indeed rude is when she has a one-on-one meeting with viaan where she questions his knowledge because he isn't a parent.

depending on one where one is in life, that can be painful and be an insult. there is a lot of unexplained infertility on the rise (both husband and wife are healthy but not able to get pregnant). imagine if katha said something like this to someone who wants to be a parent. or say someone who is struggling with infertility or not being able to get married, then indeed her comment was below the belt.

so while she is free to have her thoughts and ideas as a parent, it does not mean her being a parent makes her the expert view. one could question why she is allowing her son to have unsupervised friendship with adult. there are lots of questionable choices she herself makes as a parent which means she too is flawed. so as ehsaan said, it does not mean one has to have field knowledge (such as a doctor) to build a hospital. however, the concerns of someone on field should be taken into consideration.

so I didn't see a problem with the team meeting or even most of the one-on-one. the final comment was personal and unnecessary -- that was rude. that is not the way to have a creative discussion or debate. if you disagree, say you disagree. you don't need to put the other person down in order to justify your view. in other words, katha comes across a bit like those crazy fans who devolve into insults in order to make their point šŸ˜

As far as I know the CEO of P&G is male but they make the hugely successful Whisper. I am sure their R&D dept is surveying women and that’s enough.

And I am fed of Indian parents behaving like some superior species. It is indeed very insensitive to tell someone ā€œyou wont understand coz u are not a parentā€.

randomly today, I was listening to one of my favourite songs and I think it conveys everything I had hoped to see in katha and what the makers totally missed.

https://youtu.be/Nz1iHi0fhzI

so this is one of those 'whole love story in one song' scenario -- just for context, she is divorced with a small toddler when they meet. they strike a friendship and after four years, it turns romantic. he is in love but you don't see him mooning like a teenager. yes, he looks at her and there is admiration in his eyes but it never feels intrusive and neither does he lose sight of his job (he is a cop). he is a man in love and there is something rather cool about him -- his half-smiles, his head shakes -- the way he conveys his feeling of love.

at the same time, we can see the spark of attraction in her eyes and their conversations ebb and flow over the years. we also see a variety of fashion with her -- she is a classical dancer but at the same time modern. we see him courting her steadily through a friendship but there is a mature stability in how they show those interactions. then it peaks and we see the romance blossom.

this is the kind of mature love story I was hoping to see in this drama. these are the types of looks and stolen glances I wanted to see. this song is musically great -- you can turn on CC for lyrics subs -- but also visually a treat to watch in terms of story presentation. something I enjoy watching even though I have seen it many times.

this was what I had hoped with this drama, instead, I am annoyed and facepalming. šŸ˜‚ I am not even enjoying the build of romance because they took away viaan 1.0 and we are stuck with a saintly manchild. instead of swooning, we are thinking of crime patrol type unhealthy obsessing.🤣

also in the song, you see his interaction with the child and this is an adult-child relationship played out so beautifully. the scenes are so tiny but we can see the child's love and sense of security she feels with her mom's friend. you don't see him pander down to her but you can see him keenly listening. he is more like an old-fashioned father figure. (there is another fantastic song from the same movie which is very famous and shows him as a stepfather to the child -- very popular choice for father's day).

so yes, viaan could be playful but we have a skewed dynamic where a child is giving advice to an adult. instead of scenes that moves us, I am facepalming and thinking of things like how dangerous and unhealthy this can be. šŸ˜‚

so yea, expectations and how it could have been ...... šŸ˜†

I think that is why it feels we are only ranting. 🤣

I feel like either they kicked out the initial set of writers or the effusive praise went to the director's head and so now he thinks the way to be different is to remove all masala and entertainment from the drama. basically mature love story = boring is what the director is conveying.

however, mature love stories can be funny, dramatic, cheesy as well as real. bade ache lagte hain season 1 was a winner because it was so relatable. you can feel her angst at being over 30 and being seen as a burden and embarassment, him feeling all alone because everyone he knows is married and has children.

I still remember the cupboard fight which was hilarious and dramatic. how she explained to him that she had a whole life before him and so obviously she has stuff and memories and will need a cupboard and not just 3 tiny shelves. as silly as the arc sounds, I was totally on hooks wondering how it will play out. 🤣🤣

so it isn't necessary that they need super drama but just stuff that relates the age and situation of the characters. here, both katha and viaan now too weird. so what to say besides hmmmm while watching. so yea, we hoped for something and so far, we haven't got the passion or mature love.

the movie is: Yennai Arindhaal

movie director: Gautam Menon

music director: Harris Jayaraj.

so the romance and family element is a small part of the movie. since this is a cop movie, the crime element is more predominant. it is a good watch but it is the songs and accompaning visuals that it is really well-known for.

trailer -- can turn on CC for subs.

Agree initial Aarav Viaan’s(Aariaan) track was endearing until they behaved like a support system for each other. The CVs probably thought the need to include Aarav's involvement in the track to justify kaviaa union because it has to happen with Aarav's consent and they have shown Aarav to be quite matured for his age, due to circumstances.

TBH I miss Aariaan adorable interactions, including the bike training sessions,ā¤ļø it just co-incided with my DH teaching my DD to ride her bike I feel those are the moments which make a child's relationship with an adult solidified.

Coming back to Ennai arindhaal its an amazing movie and THALA Ajith is one of my favorite superstars in kollywood since amarakalam, premalekha(kadhal kottai) super hit even in telugu, vaalee and many more.

I remember watching Ennai Arindhaal long back Trisha and Ajith both looked real thanks to Gautham.V.Menon(GVM) superb direction.

The beauty of GVM direction is, his characters never shout they just talk like normal people and hence the characters become more relatable. Chellamey, kaaka-kaaki, Vinnaithandi varuvaaya, neethane en ponvasantham all are my favorite movies by GVM sir. All are superhits in telugu as well.

hahahahha... relatively free today and also in mood to post. šŸ˜†

the initial aarav and viaan interactions were fun and cute. what left a bad taste was when viaan started downloading his feelings on to aarav. šŸ‘ŽšŸ¼

since I already shared, I might as well share the other song from the movie. so he has lost his wife and now has to be single father. we see their interactions and relationship growth as he moves from being a stepfather/guardian to actual father.

https://youtu.be/SdcAN3dobz4

what is lovely in the song is that there are no dramatic filmi scenes. there is a beautiful line in the lyric -- "as the seasons change and years go by, I am able to see the lost beauty of life in you" -- and we see him gently smiling as she is laughing while reading a book. the lyrics are really fantastic (turn on CC for subs) and they are written from a father's point of view. perhaps, that is why this song continues to be popular (89M views!) and the comments are all from fathers or people missing/remembering their fathers.

"I watched this a long time ago and didn't understand the significance and of the vidoe until today! Put me in tears. This song is beautiful! I have experience this but with my children being on the other end being wished happy fathers day because they seen me as both figures of parenthood. His love is beautiful and lovely for his daughter. I wished my children had that father figure in there lives. To many children missing out not having a father who is loving and affectionate like this." -- one fo the comments on the song in the video.

ideally, this is what we should have felt while watching viaan and aarav. it should have been beautiful bonding. does aarav need to have a silly arc like this in order to be relevant? why not have viaan and aarav bond over karate, cricket and missing their father or talking as 'man to man' (or rather man to boy). basically the kind of stuff that fathers do with their sons. then it would have been so much more impactful and showed how katha cannot do it all and there is a gap in aarav's life.

exactly; those are the cute moments that make you go awww when you watch on TV.

I even liked the simple moments like aarav playing jenga with his cousin sisters and papaG. or the small interactions with yuvi. basically they don't have to some great arc to justify his presence. he can just be child and worry over things like he has no father who is going to come cheer for him when he gets an award while the others do. that kind of arc would be so much more impactful.

Lol! Even if it is going to be different, let’s give the leads some amount of common sense.

I feel like either they kicked out the initial set of writers or the effusive praise went to the director's head and so now he thinks the way to be different is to remove all masala and entertainment from the drama. basically mature love story = boring is what the director is conveying.

Mature stories are irresistible, as it shows that quiet, inner strength along with everything else. Pity it is viewed as boring. Pity too that because one is in love, it has to be automatically reciprocated and that too instantly…..

Haven’t seen bade acche… there are also plenty of movies that got it right.

Hmmm šŸ¤” 🤨 I think they are caught between having villains and humanizing the villains. In much the same way, they are confused about how to portray leads. I hope they don’t drag the Aarav-Viaan story any further. There is nothing more to convey, this is heading dangerous territory and I am afraid for what Aarav can grow into. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

@ bold, yes, small stuff, beautiful moments, healthy discussions, awkwardness, friendship, attraction, denial, they can take their pick and take this forward quite well.

I enjoy reading your analysis of episodes. 😊

Haven't been active in forum as I'm not following show regularly since the time Viaan's actions seemed creepy to me as he reminded me of a guy who exhibited similar behaviour which made me uncomfortable during same time..

After reading your posts...I'm thinking to start watching again selectively based on ur reviews.

I should thankyou... your posts relieve my stress during my exams as they make me laughsmiley36ā¤ļø

I think Katha has come a long way since the initial days, but that outrage at being asked to spend the night? Still there, the humiliation of it and not wanting to process it. Add to it the constant harassment, there is angst and plenty of it. While she gets to work with the best and lead a team, dealing with the constant staring, declarations of love, not taking the no, etc from the man at the top itself is extremely stressful and distressing. And one has to let it be - quite a compromise to make to retain the job, to pursue one’s passion. Not easy at all, definitely should never be the case.
Yes, she will have to at some point process the night she spent in exchange for money, but how can she do that with all the other things Viaan has been doing- at first the apologies- even going to her house and then the attempts to talk to her, later the teenage attitude. She needs her space and time. Wish the writers had given her that instead of steamrolling one thing after another at her!

The writers have to decide who and what Viaan is.

I feel like they got scared of having a real grey ML and had to whitewash him. hence, saint viaan which some seem to love but many of us here on IF are scratching our heads. if we had gotten glimpses of saint viaan from the start, it wouldn't feel like an abrupt whiplash. but there was no proper transition. so we had tough CEO and after he falls in love, he loses his brains and his competitive edge? that makes no sense to me.

it is also why we are having uneven love story in my view. saint viaan would be a different kind of love story. something soft and not necessarily edgy. the original dizi was set to be a high live wire type romance. we saw those strong clashes between the two of them in the beginning. then, viaan had to miraculously change to saint viaan over one lonovala trip and the drama literally lost its momentum and this forum lost members.

so katha as she was originally written is meant for a grey ML and not saint viaan. she needs someone who will push back when she goes overboard. to challenge her and those preconceptions. someone professing undying love and idolizing her is not going to cut it. those clashes and fights need to happen in order to really push the story.

currently it is all flat emotionally which is why I am skipping episodes regularly. if it wasn't for this forum, I would have probably dropped it entirely. if you have a ML who is constantly backpedaling, it is not entertaining to watch. if they did, people would be loving reet and yuvi. šŸ˜‚
