Finally watched the Friday episode.
Hats off to the show makers. While I don’t know if the scene between Katha and Viaan has been lifted from the og show, I want to applaud the makers for truly showing progressive thinking.
In my line of work I used to travel in Asia and every time, I come across a young girl with a old man, usually in a fancy hotel lobby or the restaurant bar area, I have colleagues esp men who will pass comments on her clothes, questioning her decision and what not.
I once replied to a male colleague “poverty is her excuse, what is his?” And the male colleague had the nerve to say it was opportunity, so he took it. So I looked at him and said “how nice for the powerful to give name of opportunity…it’s the same excuse since history of time, that rulers give when they take over countries, loot homes. It’s the same excuse companies give who pay top level people millions, but fire lower level workers. It’s not opportunity, it’s immorality. It’s high time, we shift the immorality to the one in power. Let us hold them to a higher standard, not the woman born into poverty and looking for ways to get out of it.”
After I gave this bhashan, the male colleague told me to calm down and take a drink. That is reality!
I for one am glad when Katha said, I was a mother, so everything is maaf. So true, standards are only being applied to her, what was his excuse?
Of course from the story perspective, hats off to truly envisage a man who had deep introspection, who wanted to correct his way of thinking or correct his actions.
Now if only I can say that about my male colleague’s thinking!
