hahaha... so this is stuff I just picked up from watching makeover shows. not a natural fashionista. 🤣
so that shirt was fine for shopping because no one is going to be dressed in their best. but looking at it objectively, vertical stripes can be great if the length is shorter. if you notice she looks taller when she has tucked in her shirt. especially for shorter folks, that is a great tip.
basically by tucking it in, you accentuate the waist, define your bust and elongate the legs. it is all about visual perception. so that shape immediately gives you a few inches in perception. now, because the stripes short went all the way to her knees, it just made it obvious how small her legs were below knees. hence, making her look shorter.
your eye is naturally drawn to print first and the plain colour will fade into background. so one tip is to wear printed bottoms and shorter plain tops. or more brighter bottoms in comparison to the top. so naturally your eyes are drawn to the bottom and making your legs look longer.
another style tip, wearing knee length or shorter kurtis is better -- again, it is about making your legs look longer. in this case, the print of the fabric did the reverse for her. also, it was rather loose cut -- great for shopping - but it also did make her look like she was swimming in it and hence shorter.
so if you pay attention to cut, the way fabric falls and drapes, the print of the fabric -- there are ways to look taller (provided you have great posture). basically it is all about how the eye perceives.
