"Kya hua, Kasturi? Jab mein office aaya tha tum toh bahut khush thi.."

"Robbie, aap ko bata hain..woh Aditya. Yeh..mein..woh..sab sab uska plan tha. Tina ko bejhdehna, phir mujhe bejhdehna, sab isliye taaki hamare beech mein koi galat femi pehda hojaaye. Aapko bata hain, kitne bhuri baatein kahaan mujhse. Usne kaha ke..ke yeh nokri mujhe apni kaabilt ki wajah se nahi, balki uski ehsaan ke wajah se mili," exploded Kasturi, her words tumbling out in a wash of sorrow and fury.

"Kasturi, ro mat. Mein tumhaare saath hoon."

"Shukriya, Robbie. Tumhaara sahaara nahi hota toh mein tootchuki hoti. Par tumse meine aatma-vishwaas seekha hain. Isliye mein uske saamne royi nahi thi. Sar uthaake chaligayi vahaan se. Maine nokri chordi. Mein aisa ghatyaar aadmi ke liye kaam nahi karsakti. Meine Bank of India se apply kiya hain."

"Tumne bilkool theek kiya, Kasturi. Chinta mat karo. Aisi baat hoti rehti hain, par mujhe tumpe aur tumhari kaabilat pe pura yakeen hain, aur mein jaanta hoon ke tumhe bahut jald doosri nokri milengi. Aur job hi ho, mein tumhare saath hamesha rahoonga."

Robbie stroked her palms softly, looked deep into her eyes and began to sing.

Tu jo paas ho phir kya yeh jahaan

Kasturi echoed his words.

"Kasturi, tum aaj kaam pe mat jaana. Tu kahen to mein bhi rukhjaata hoon?"

"Nahi, nahi, iski koi zaroorat nahi hain. Bas kuch galat kaaliya hoga, isliye vomit hogayi."

Theek hain, par pehle mein Bank of India ko phone kardehta hoon. Kasturi, sach mein tum theek ho?" he asked worriedly as she stumbled and her face blanched.

"Haan, bas thoda sa chakhar aa raha hain." Robbie rushed to her side and supported her in his arms.

"Aaram se, aahista, Kasturi. Hilna mat, mein tumhe bedroom lehjaata hoon," he decided. "Behas mat karo," he continued as she opened her mouth. She swayed and fainted, slumping into his arms.

"Kya baat hain, doctor?" inquired Devika anxiously.

"Aapko koi andaaza nahi hain?" teased the doctor.

"Well, sach kahoon toh dhimak mein khayal toh aaya. Par mein niraash nahi hona chahti thi."

"Mom, kaisa khayal? Mujhe toh kuch samaj mein nahi aata. Doctor, saaf saaf batadijye Kasturi ko kya hua hain?"

"Robbie, tum baap banewaala hoon."

"Kya kehrahi hain aap? Sach? Matlab..Kasturi..pregnant?"

"Jee haan. Badhaai ho. Kasturi maa bannewaali hain."

Chapter 36 ' mere haath mein tera haath ho (English)

"Robbie, you know..that Aditya. This..I..that..everything, everything was his plan. Sending Tina, then sending me, all so that a misunderstanding would be created between us.You know, he said such horrible things to me. He said..that I got this job not because of my talent but because of him," exploded Kasturi, her words tumbling out in a wash of sorrow and fury.

"Kasturi, don't cry. I'm with you."

"Thank you, Robbie. Without your support I would have broken down. But from you I've learnt confidence. That's why I didn't cry in front of him. I left with my head held high. I resigned. I can't work for such a disgusting man. I've apllied to Bank of India."

"OK, but first let me phone the Bank of India. Kasturi, are you sure you're okay?" he asked worriedly as she stumbled and her face blanched.

"Yes, I just felt a little dizzy." Robbie rushed to her side and supported her in his arms.

"Carefully, slowly, Kasturi. Don't movie, I'll take you to the bedroom," he decided. "Don't argue," he continued as she opened her mouth. She swayed and fainted, slumping into his arms.

"What is it, doctor?" inquired Devika anxiously.

"Do you have no inkling?" teased the doctor.

"Well, to tell you the truth the thought entered my head. But I didn't want to be disappointed."

"Mom, what thought? I don't understand. Doctor, clearly tell me, what has happened to Kasturi?"

"Robbie, you're going to be a father."

"What are you saying? Really? Meaning..Kasturi..pregnant?"

"Yes. Congratulations. Kasturi is going to be a mother."

Joy spread over Robbie's face, matching the grin already worn by Devika. He rushed into the bedroom.
