I myself was a huge PRB fan in S1( and this coming from a crazy AP fan who hated Bajaj and my journey of how I fell in love with Bajaj and then jumped ships )
but now I cannot stand Pre-Rish.
Yes, that's the word. Organic. There was no suprise, shock or even ping -pong feeling of Pre falling for RB. It was something so beautiful.
I am not against negative characters or villians. Show them as bad if they are. That's what they did with S1 bajaj. Made him ruthless, bad, egoistic and obsessed. We disliked him, kind of hated him too. And then his slow transformation in few years , the journey was beautiful.
You cannot show negative characters as ideal and then expect ppl to love him. This is what is wrong this season. Don't whitewash. Period.
I am late '96 born... So not a kid anymore🤣. And although I did not watch KZK1, my home was filled with the fans of its characters.
My mom was/is a pro Bajaj loyalist. My grandma cursed Komolika day in and day out. My elder chachi fawned over Anuraag, and my younger chachi, a fashion designer found her PRERANA in KOMOLIKA (Sorry bad Joke)..
But jokes apart, most of the S1 viewers that I know (I am not claiming to know them all), have exact same sentiments this season. My dad who was mostly a neutral viewer then and even now was telling us the other day that the characters in reboot have regressed badly despite moving ahead in time. The FL who was so strong and empowered previously has now regressed to a glorified nanny for Kuki and caretaker for AB. Likewise, RB who used to make his point with boardroom strategies is now being reduced to emotionally deprived knight-in-distress waiting to be understood and rescued by damsel-in-shining-armour and about AB, the less said the better.
I can still give RB a benefit of doubt about deal marriage that he did that for his daughter's welfare and also for using her as a tool against Basus. It was him thinking like a father and a businessman simultaneously. But this hit-and-run drama, his excuse and Pre's reaction afterwards is above my understanding. What he did was criminal (unless there is a back story to it). You cannot expect the viewers to condone the criminality (akin to attempted murder, him not even showing some empathy to a man hit by your own car and give all the lame ass excuses to justify it). This is jet black, not even grey. And portraying him as a white angel with wings and a halo is not going to work. If this must be shown, show a proper redemption first and an organic progress then after.
Negative character, with effective execution become more interesting to watch than the protagonists. Who doesn't love a Hannibal Letcher, a Joker and a Lord Voldemort. I also remember watching a television Show based on female infanticide. The antagonist Ammaji was such a powerful, formidable character, but she was such a fine actress that people watched that Show for her than for the lead characters.
But Does maata care? NO.. However, to give maate a benefit of doubt, it could be that the actor has signed the dotted line for a finite time period. So the haste to get the most out of him during the contract period.
BTW I do still watch Tom and Jerry... 🤣
