When Ronit first came to Mumbai, he lived and worked with Subhash Ghai as an assistant director. Then he started modeling and did a few commercials. He even tried his hand at being a freelance editor and turned director for 25 episodes of Chitrahaar on Doordarshan. The multi talented Roy hit the silver screen with Jaan Tere Naam, in 1992 and the film was a hit. However, even though he acted in 30 films in 10 years, stardom and success eluded him. It was only when he turned to the small screen that he finally found his niche and became one of the biggest names on TV. Today he is best known for the characters he plays in two TV soaps, Mihir Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Rishab Bajaj in Kasautii Zindagi Kay. The way people have responded to his portrayal of Bajaj and Mihir is unprecedented. He is the highest paid television soap opera actor in India today.

Ronit leads the team of 'Bindaas Bosses'.

ROHIT ROY

Tell us about Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa on 9X.

Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa is an interesting concept. It's not just any other reality dance show -- it stands out as it will provide viewers with a lot more drama which is real drama, and not make-believe drama. The most interesting part is that there is no jury who will sit and comment on my performances -- I don't have to be nice to people so that they give me better marks next week! I will be dancing for the real audiences at home, and they will judge me for my performance.

What made you sign on Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa? What are your expectations from the show?

I wanted to do something challenging before I got completely off television. I wanted to be associated with the song and dance reality format. When Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa was offered to me, I took it up immediately because of its unique, fantastic format that the viewers will enjoy. I wanted to be on a reality show that showcased real drama, and with the lineup of talent on the show, I expect some big time real drama on the show! So I expect the show to be very entertaining. As for personal expectation, I'm just going to put my best foot forward. Expectation is always one hundred per cent. And especially with such a huge lineup of stars and the format of the show, I believe that the audience will really enjoy Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa!

Tell us about your lovely Phirangi Phatake?

My team is called Phirangi Phatake, and they really are and will be the best looking team on the show. They're all gorgeous and extremely talented dancers. I've chosen a team that's really high on energy.

How will you train your team

I plan to take each member of my team out on a date and get to know them better! And then we will all hang out together. And that's not all. Every week the member who performs the best will get a date with Rohit Roy -- that will be the gratification!

What do you think will be the USP of Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa? What's your plan of action?

Throughout my entire career, I've been extremely focused. It never mattered who was
behind me, ahead of me, or beside me; I believe in running to the best of my speed, the best way I can. If I feel that towards the end some other person is catching up, I will pick up my own pace and try my best. I believe that my biggest competition is me myself. This attitude has always helped me better my last performance, and that's the parameter that I will compete on. On Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa, I intend to do my best -- winning or losing is not what I am concerned about; I just want to deliver to the best of my ability.

The show has no jury - what is your take on that?

That's one of the reasons I signed on the show. It feels nice that there will be no people to comment on the performances week after week. I don't have to make false conversations and try to be kind to them or please them. The best part is that Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa is the first reality show in the true sense -- there will be real, not made up drama. The paramount judge will be the audiences; they are the ones who will make the final verdict and choose their winner. I trust the audience and know that they will select the one who is the best. I believe that audience votes matter the most -- I would much rather have a popular award than a critic's award.

Who will be your strongest competition on the show?

They all are fabulous dancers and performers. Ronit is a fine dancer; so are Hussain, Shweta and Prachi… I've seent hem all perform, and they are superb! Rosa I haven't seen dancing, but I'm told she's a professional dancer. All the participants are great dancers – in fact I feel I'm the least talented of them all. And then there's Rakhi Sawant -- I feel that the lineup on Vodafone Yeh Hai Jalwa will provide the audience with entertainment never seen before on Indian television.
