If the 1980s saw a trauma behind a chain in 'Zanjeer' which pinches a police officer all the way, 2004 is set to witness a conflict between the self and the system in "Satya Bol'. A member of the same genre of films from Bollywood, 'Satya Bol' is based on the life of a newly appointed police officer and the contradictions between the self and the system. The story goes something like this. Jayant Barve gets his first posting in Mumbai after graduating from the police academy. Like other young officers, he is innocent and dedicated to his job being a strong believer in ideology. But when he enters the so-called hard-hitting world of Mumbai Police, the entire scenario changes. At the same time, the two extreme groups of colleagues leave him in a state of dilemma.

He is shaken to witness the cruelty criminals who don't value human life. First he witnesses a naked truth when the credit due to him for arresting a most wanted criminal goes to his colleague inspector Shinde. At this point, his friend Alex, who is a union leader, warns: "A policeman witnesses things every day that a common man might not witness in a lifetime." Shinde is a hard-core encounter specialist inspector who only talks at gunpoint with criminals. On the other hand, KB has other ways of settling things like even joining hands with criminals. KB's view- "Within 22 years of my service I have never used my revolver." There is therefore one more punch to Jayant's dilemma - whether to follow Shinde or KB. Now a new member enters Jayant's life. Wife Sandhya, a middle class girl brings hope and happiness. But of course the solace is short-lived.

A custody death at his own leaves Jayant completely shaken as he learns that the dead man was not the real criminal 'Baba' but someone completely innocent. The guilt conscious of a culprit takes over Jayant. He is ready to accept his fault and punishment too. But his colleague, the encounter specialist inspector Shinde, tell him to shun the guilt as this he says is routine in police life. Meanwhile, his family life plays truant with him as his wife does not understand the mental torture that he is going through. Sandhya denies accepting him as the person whom she had loved and married. Meanwhile, his best friend Alex also dies. After this finally the young cop returns with vigour wanting an encounter with the most wanted Solanki. Wife comes back to him and colleagues appreciate him after witnessing the real thrust of a young cop who believes in ideology.

This film mainly revolves around the split life that cops have to lead, partially because of what the country's system demands. The story is also about those who come into the profession with high hopes but soon get disillusioned. Unlike other cop films, this one has the director looking closely at the system within which a police officer is often forced to work. It also takes a deep look at the general public, which is not aware of the real story. The film develops in the backdrop of the same Mumbai Mafia-police encounter story. Director Sanjay Upadhyay has tried his best to put all his small screen experience into this film. Sayaji Sinde, Sachin Khedkar and Anand Joglekar have come out with good natural acting. But the new pair Tina and Manish is disappointing to say the least and deserve the go back to a professional acting college. Adesh Srivastav's music matches well with the story. Perizad's appearance in the item number 'Soonley……' is not enough to attract the audience. But the title track Satya Bol adds seriousness to the script.
