Before I start, can I just say, I hate Mother India. Not generally, you understand, just recently. Why, you ask? You'll soon find out…
What a beautiful and sad turn of affairs this is…
Jab Prem ko prem hota hai, to yeh hota hai
Prem is sitting in the park, with a bouquet of roses by him. He is wearing his uniform of t-shirt, hoodie and bacha-shorts (that's what I am calling them now!) and is looking scrumptious. He is getting impatient, looking at his watch and generally doing weird things like talking to the bouquet ("You sit right there" – I know there's a saying that you "say it with flowers", but this is ridiculous!) and standing up, shouting to no one in particular ("OH GOD! I don't believe this! How much longer do I have to wait?").
This erratic behaviour is seen by a Parsi couple walking past and the woman stops and asks him why he is behaving like this. Is he mad?
Prem smiles and says "I think so. I've heard that in love one often goes mad. Look at me; I am the kind of guy that time runs after, and today, I am running after time, its so funny. Actually, the girl I love hasn't arrived yet, and I don't know what to do".
The Parsi uncle tells him that this kind of thing is common in love. Prem looks surprised. The Parsi continues, that when he was courting his wife, she used to make him wait for ages. But when your love finally comes after all that wait, there is no feeling like it.
Prem laughs [ooh, laughter, and that too non-sarcastic….this guy learns something new every day!]
"Ok" says lover-boy, "Let's do this and see, shall we? Thank you" [he'll thank complete strangers but when it comes to his own family…uff, yeh ladka bhi…]
The Parsi couple leaves and Prem turns around, still impatient, to see Mukti coming towards him, a huge smile on her face. She is looking beautiful! [I think it's the fact that she hasn't smiled in ages, and this huge, unrestrained smile is really suiting her]
Prem can't stop staring. She comes up to him and hugs him [Haila!! Yeh kya hogaya?] and says, "I couldn't stop myself, Prem. I love you" [OK, this HAS to be a dream – Mukti ki dhun kaise badal gayi?]
Prem is so happy, lost in a dream world, when the Parsi couple come back. The aunty asks why he is standing there, hugging himself. ROFL!!! [ Oh, how sad! The first ever, proper PM hug, and it was a dream!! On the other hand, Prem's dreaming now?]
Prem looks around him, shocked that Mukti isn't there. The uncle says that this too is very common in love – now, when she does come, he really should hug her, "ekdam aa gale lag ja style!" [seriously, Prem is freaking me out. I haven't seen him smile so much since…..EVER!]
The Parsi couple leaves again, and Prem sits back down on the bench, resigned to a looooooooong wait. Kabhi voh ghadi ko dekhe, toh kabhi phoolon ko.
Na dulhan raazi, na dulha raazi, lekin ohir bhi apna kya kaam karega Qaazi!
At Basu House, the mahurat for the wedding has been set – next week. Prerna gives everyone mithai and sees Anu staring at her with "come-hither-I-want-to-kill-you-now" looks. Kul's mother asks where "our bahu" is, and Prerna says she should be on her way.
Baharon phool barsaayo, mera mehboob….nahi aaya…*sigh*
Prem is lying on top of his car, shredding what's left of those poor roses. [not fair; first he talks to them, reassures them and then mercilessly destroys them? Hmmm, sounds familiar…]
He picks up one rose, says "Miss Mukti Deshmukh" and does that really cheesy "She loves me, she loves me not" thing [OK, now I am officially creeped out. Prem? What the HECK are you doing?? Grow a pair, already!!]
He gets to the pettle-before-last, which was "She loves me". Now he's scared that the last pettle will be "She loves me not" [Prem, I wouldn't hold too much stock by that game, if I were you. It's hardly the most reliable method of proving your love. I mean, its not even in the "Love Bible" – Ten ways to discover if someone loves you, or whether they are a chronic stalker]
Baharon phool barsaayo (Part Two)…Mother India aayi hai
Prerna goes to Mukti's office, sees the flowers, then sees red. She goes up to Mukti's desk, where Mukti's engagement ring lies. [if you're wondering, it was a crappy two-bit ring, no diamonds that I could see. It was like one of those rings you get free in kids' toys and what not. Eugh, another reason to refuse the wedding]
She is about to leave, when she spies the card that Prem wrote; she reads it and is furious.
Intehaa hogayi, intezaar ki…aayi na kuch khabar, mere yaar ki…oh wait…
Prem is still focused on that one petal, willing himself to take it off and say "she loves me not", when he sees Mukti coming towards him. For a moment he can't believe it, then he does and says quietly, "She loves me". [ yes, indeed she does. Well done, Majnu]
He gets up off the car, takes his hood off and tries to smarten himself up, starting with his hair. [ Soooo cute, my lil bacha is cho chweet!! Jaise school-teacher se maar na khan eke liye, koi bacha homework karke aata hai, vaise hi mera Prem Mukti-teacher ke liye repectable dhikna chahta hai!!]
He finds the only rose not subjected to his torture, and presents it to Mukti. She doesn't take it, and says "Why are you not understanding what I have to say? What you want can not happen. I have only come here to tell you that my marriage date is fixed. I am marrying Kul. Forget me." [way to break my baby's heart, Mukti!! I know you have your reasons, but come on!! ANYONE would have melted already….what's wrong with you?]
She turns to leave and Prem says "Congratulations. Your wedding date is finally fixed. Great! I'm so happy for you!" [really? That's happiness? He's pissed, dudes!]
He continues, "tell me one thing. Why aren't you with your so-called family right now? Your so-called husband-to-be? Why are you with me? With a strange man that you don't love? Come on, tell me Mukti, why?." [not THAT strange, Prem]
She doesn't reply, and he comes closer. As she turns to leave, he grabs her and holds her tight. She tells him to stop, but when has Prem ever listened to anyone?
"Why are you lying to yourself, that you don't love me? However much you hide it, Mukti, you can never change the fact that you love me" [ YES!! Yes, I love you Prem!! Take me instead!!]
"Why are you lying to Kul and deceiving him? Why are you deceiving so many people, and yourself? The Prem who never waited for anyone in his entire life, today he waited 3 ghante, chaubis minute aur bathis seconds for you" [ Aww, he counted!! Wait, he waited THREE hours? Then why the hell was Mukti not at home at 6? What was she doing for three hours? She could have gone to Basu House at 6 and still made it back late to see Prem!]
"I knew you would come, because you love me".
Mukti replies "I have said all that I needed to; if you still want to wait for me, that is your problem".
Again, she turns to leave and again, he grabs her hand. They struggle for a minute, and then Prem says, "Where's your engagement ring?"
"It was loose. I gave it to the jewellers to get it fixed". [lol, and is the jeweller still sitting in your office fixing it for you?]
Prem tells her that he is going to do what he should have done a long time ago. He gets out a ring and forces it onto her finger. Then, he kneels down, yes, he KNEELS in front of Mukti, still holding her hand, and moves to kiss it, but she gently takes it away. [I guess that sensation would just push her over the edge, right? BTW, his ring is SOO much better than Kul's – a beauty with lotsa diamonds….hmmm, symbolism or a frantic premika reading too much into it?]
He is hurt, but he says that she will never be able to take that ring out.[ Kyun, Fevicol se lagayi hai kya?
Mukti leaves, but she turns back to look at him once more. [ you know Mukti, if you really want him to believe that you don't love him, a good plan would involve ignoring him, not turning up wherever he calls you, or sneaking glances at him all the time. Jeez, you'd have thought your Choti Maa would have taught you the art of "playing hard to get"]
Mukti thinks to herself that Prem has left it too late – now, even though she wants to, she can't accept his love.
Maidaan-E-Jung ke do naye siphahi – Mother India aur Basanti
Mukti goes home to find Prerna waiting for her. She makes up some excuse about having too much work, but Prerna asks, "You went to see Prem, didn't you?"
She asks Mukti why she took her engagement ring off. After all, it is not a ring, but a promise that Kul made to her, a trust. [Oh shuddup Mother India, it's a crappy ring, that's all]
She says all this crap about Mukti lowering Prerna in her own eyes, yada yada, yawn. [seriously Prerna, your emotional blackmail is nothing short of bullying]
The argument goes on and eventually Mother India says that even though Mukti may be able to forgive Prem what he did to her, she will never forgive what he did to his mother. [ now, if that aint bullying, what is? Lose your love or lose your mum]
Eventually, Mukti tells her that she only went there to tell Prem that she didn't love him[ Huh. You know, a better option would have been to NOT GO. That would have told him straight.] she takes the ring off, tells Prerna to return it to Mukti and is about to give it to Prerna when Anu stops her.
He is seething. "So, you don't love Prem? In that case, why can't you give him the ring yourself? You couldn't stop him from putting the ring on your finger, but on the journey from there to the house, you didn't take the ring off"[point to be noted, m'lord!]
"It's because you know that this is not just a ring. It is Prem's love, which you cannot separate from yourself"[OK, honestly now, these people are demanding WAY too much from a measly ring – one says it's someone's trust; the other, someone's love. Leave the poor ring alone!! Maybe it just wants to be a RING!!]
"I don't know why you are doing this Mukti. But if you go ahead with this wedding, THREE lives will be destroyed. You will take the blame for destroying these three lives. So today, you have to make the right decision. Choose".
Prerna agrees with Anu "I have never forced my decision upon my kids" [Living in lala-land, are we?], "and today, you must make your decision yourself."
Mukti remembers Prem, and his actions today, and then finally, she remembers that blasted conversation with Komo and Prerna, and gives Prerna that ring. "Give it back to Prem. I am envisioning my life with Kul now, and I can see that I will be happy" [Oh really? Then why are you crying?]
She leaves, and Anu's anger knows no bounds. He looks at Prerna as if he would eat her alive, and the eppy ends on him.
Prerna needs a tight – she's just being stubborn no. how can she not see that Mukti is lying? Is she blind? I really hope that Anu helps PM out soon – otherwise this wedding might just go ahead. I have a feeling that everything will make or break on the wedding day itself anyway.
That's all folks!
