Chapter VIII
Mukti looked out at the rain. She did not hear the door opening.
"Mukti."
Startled Mukti turned out with fear in her eyes. For a moment all she could do was feel the arcid taste of fear in her throat.
"Are baba. Its just me Mukti. No need to be scared," Kasak said. "And why is it so dark here? Let me turn on the lights."
Few seconds later, the room was flooded with light. Kasak smiled at Mukti and went to the refrigirator to get water.
"here this will help you."
Mukti whispered, "Sorry I'm overreacting."
"Hey no need to apologize. It was the sob Sharad-"
"Kasak its ok. I need to get over this. So did you have fun at the club?"
Kasak looked away guiltily. She did not want to tell Mukti that she had been his partner for the last eight months. She needed Mukti.
"Pssst. All there were guys around me."
Mukti smiled. "And why won't there be? You are beautiful-"
"Oh shut up. Mrs. Shiv-is-in-love-with-me."
Mukti groaned. "Are you ever going to let me forget that?"
"Nope. So in seventh grade to play a trick on us you tell us that the guy you had a crush on proposed to you and told you he loves you and wants to marry you."
"And Shiv, the guy that I had a crush on, was rite behind me and asks me, "really? where was i?" Mukti finished laughing.
Kasak relieved that Mukti had recovered said, "I have a friend whose dad sings as he brushes his teeth."
"Not that joke again," Mukti said laughing.
Kasak finished, "He uses denture."
Mukti laughed. "Two antenas on the roof got married. The ceremony was fine but the reception was great."
Both laughed as they said cheesy jokes.
