Karan Johar's much-hyped Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) releases on August 11. On the same day, good friend Ekta Kapoor's first Bhojpuri film, Hum Bal Brahmachari Tu Kanya Kumari also hits the marquee. In a quirky clash of sorts, both buddies will battle it out as producers at the box office on the same day!
KANK, a relationships saga, stars the Bachchans, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta. Hum Bal Brahmachari… ., described as a love story set against the backdrop of feuding families, has Kunal Singh (one of the leading stars of Bhojpuri films), Ali Asgar (Kamal of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii), Sikander Kharbhanda (Indraneil of Kasautii Zindagii Kay), Divya Desai and Brajesh Tiwari.
Big draw
The lucrative Bhojpuri movie industry has made several Bollywood folk veer towards it. And Ekta is just one of them. When the film went on the floors she had said, "It is a lucrative market and is constantly growing."
But Ekta admits, "I'm not completely involved in the film. But honestly, it's not in the same league as KANK. I am waiting for KANK to release. Now that I've seen Golmaal, I am waiting to see Karan's film."
In the city, Bhojpuri films are screened at single screen theatres and are a big draw not only here but abroad as well. "The Bhojpuri films release in only certain pockets," adds Ekta.
The film, presented by Jeetendra, has been produced by Ekta's banner, Balaji Telefilms, along with Balaji writer Mahesh Pandey's Shree Siddhi Vinayak Media Entertainment. Mahesh is also writer-director of the film, with the screenplay by Rajesh Tripathi and Sandeep Shikhar.
Says Mahesh, "The film has been shot in Rajpipla in Gujarat. It is a David Dhawan-type entertainer. There are those typical Bhojpuri ingredients that include two item numbers."

The audio launch of the film will be held on July 25 and has Rajesh Gupta scoring the music. There will also be a premiere of the film in the city.
As writer, Mahesh has been associated with Balaji shows like Kavyanjali, Kasautii Zindagi Kay Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki and Kahiin To Hoga.
He had earlier produced-directed the Bhojpuri film, Ghar Duaar. Several telly actors from Kahaani — Ali Asgar (Kamal), Gautam Chaturvedi (Gaurav), Rinku Karmarkar (Chhaya), Deepak Qazir (Babujee) and Suchita Trivedi (Shilpa) — featured in the film. |
