Hey

Well this is a different genre altogether, not sure if anything like this has been written but yeh... 😆

Its murder mystery, ive left out all the gory details as much as i could, ive put the biology of many things in simple terms.. i tried to make it interesting, not sure if it wrked.. 😳

Idea was taken from Criminal minds - American TV show 😃 and a bit of The Bill - UK tv show.

Rating: i would say its PG..

Warning: Do NOT try the experiments or anything written at home.

Air the dangerous element…

Cameras flashed lighting the night sky, a person in their household not knowing what was going on would think its lightening, flashes at every few intervals.

A body was outlined with white chalk, her knees were bent far apart, her ankles crossed making the body seem she died in discomfort. Her arms were above her head, her neck had small bruising but it was evident that it had snapped in half.

The officers cordoned off the street and informed the nearby public that there has been a brutal murder.

A lady investigator walked up and down, kicking her self over the issue, "third body in 6 weeks... 2 weeks apart" she ran her slim fingers through her hair, combing it a little.

She crouched near the body, she ordered some gloves off a near by worker, she slipped them on and did her own investigation; there was no obvious marks as to how she died, just like the other murders. The murderer was cunning; he never left any evidences behind, however like always there was a newspaper cutting of a name attached to the undergarments of the deceased.

"Julia smith" the woman read out carefully, she turned the scrap paper over but nothing was on there other then the scribbled and blacked out article it was ripped from.

----

A tall man paced up and down the long room, his hands crossed behind his back, his dark brown blazer unbuttoned "Bani," he sighed, "I think its time for you to accept you need a partner on this case, I let you off last week, but this is another similar murder, this can not go on"

"But sir," Bani butted in, he gave her a stern look showing he did not appreciate her talking whilst he was. She put her head down apologising quietly.

"No buts Bani, this is one case I can not let you take on by yourself, either you drop this case and let another capable person handle it, or you let me assign you with a partner"

Bani looked up, her eyes slightly moist, she hated the idea of working with a person she loved being alone when working on criminal cases, however she was too determined to find the result to this investigation and was willing to swallow her pride and accept the invitation of having a colleague.

----

Next day Bani sat at her desk watching the clock in the corner tick by, she looked at the door and went back to her files, cursing the person she was waiting for, she looked at her watch and continued cursing.

A medium built man walked in through the double sliding doors, he held a packet of fries from Mc Donalds and milkshake, he slurped the chocolate flavoured drink noisily and placed it on the table with files.

"Oye, cant you see I'm working here, go find your desk" Bani said back angrily.

The man looked at Bani, scarf on her head, no rings on her fingers, and light brown trousers with an off white shirt.

"I can see, I'm Jai, and you are?" he put out his hand to greet hers only to be rejected.

"Not interested," she said back in a tone as if she was completing his sentence. He picked up a few books and placed them to one side. She pushed passed him only to bump into her stern boss.

"ah Bani," he put Bani back in her spot, almost picking her up, "I see you have met your colleague, he's the best around," Bani gave a disgusted look, his attire didn't match her superior's words, jeans with a casual t-shirt, Nike trainers to save him from the cold United Kingdom streets.

"Oh we've met" Jai said smiling, "bossy isn't she?"

Bani gasped at his openness about her, he's only met her for 10 minutes and he's making assumptions, "never judge a book by its cover" Bani forewarned.

"Ooo touchy," Jai took another sip of his milkshake and turned his attention to the boss "what time have the murders happened? Around 8pm as the media say?"

"Well you will have to ask her about the finer details, I haven't seen the case as such, only heard about it as an overall case. Good luck" he tapped Jai and Bani on their shoulders and left.

The silence in the air was almost deafening, Bani looked at Jai and gave him a glare, she never wanted a partner in the first place and now she was stuck with a womaniser she thought.

Jai flicked through a few files, he threw his lunch in the near by bin and started to think about possible solutions, he pulled the whiteboard down from the wall and started to jot down a few notes. He looked over to Bani who was sipped her mug of coffee.

"Err Bani?" he called; he knew she still wasn't in the mood to talk, but he had to ask "are you using the orange folder?"

Without words being exchanged Bani handed the folder over, she looked at him and looked at his scribble. "What are you doing?"

Jai could see she was trying to make an effort, he dropped his nonsense act and started being professional, "I'm just putting down the main points to the case, names of victims, times, how they died, anything basically, I'm going to try and find a pattern."

"Oh I've done that," Bani said, she handed her mug to him to hold and rustled through many free papers, "here you are" she handed him a sheet that was colourful, highlighted phrases and times.

Jai thanked her "should've asked you before, shouldn't I? Save me from doing this" he laughed, he took a photo of his work and printed it as another copy of the same information "can't have enough of the same information can we? At least it's in a different format"

Bani nodded smiling. She told him about what her sheet meant what each colour was for.

"Oh I just thought you were a colour addict," Jai said breaking the ice more.

Bani smiled and shook her head and went back to the case "I'll be in the office if you need anything, all the files are in chronological order of times, the colours indicate what day the event happened, the key is at the side of the book shelf"

----

Next day started with Jai sitting reading the newspaper, he flicked through the sports section taking in every word as if his life depended on it, he looked over to Bani's desk to see her touch typing at the computer, every so often her hand would touch her face to place the stray hair behind her ear that kept falling in front of her right eye.

"Bani have you seen this?" he tried to call her over but she wouldn't budge saying she had a pile of office filing to do, from their little meeting Jai realised how serious Bani was about her work, she hardly moved from the computer if she was on a roll with typing. He could see the after effects of the constant strain on Bani's back, she started to become restless, she massaged her back and sighed deeply when she saw the pile of assignments increase.

Jai put his newspaper away and put his feet down on the floor as they were meant to be, Bani watched this from the corner of her eye, "oh you realised you were at work then at home then?" Bani hinted.

"Yes, I realised, but I can't start my day without a dose of the sport section, just the same way you can't start your day without drinking a cup of coffee with two sugars then exactly thirty minutes later have another mug with only one sugar."

Bani's eyes popped out in shock, she slowly hid her other mug of coffee under the desk, "Oh leave me alone, I bet you have many habits... besides how do you know today just wasn't a one off?"

"I've done my research on you love," Jai winked "I'm not a behaviour analysist or a investigator for the sake of it, I do actually carry out my job in day to day life too, not just for work."

Bani remained speechless, how could she dig her own grave by asking the stupid question?

----

Bani hated it when he read the newspaper every morning, Jai took his time flicking the pages making sure he didn't miss one article; he read the innocent jokes in the final pages of the Metro sometimes he sniggered quietly and told other people to read the snippet.

Bani walked over a mound of newspapers, she placed her right foot over and balanced carefully as she went to drag her left foot, it got caught and she fell. She turned to see if there was any evident damage on her foot, she looked up to see Jai walking into the office with another paper and another mug of hot drink. Her blood boiled at the sight, she got up and hopped a bit on her good leg, she tried to apply pressure to her left foot but it was too much pain.

Jai strode to the not-so-pleasant Bani to receive an earful that had been brewing for the past few days, "Can't you recycle this junk?? its closing the pathways now in the corridors, Jai this is going way beyond belief, I fell today, what if another person falls over this and injures themselves?"

Jai bowed his head, he let her continue "Why don't you just go to the Metro website if you love it so much, this!" she pointed to the mess, "this is obviously not working"

"I hate the website, so many links, I prefer reading it on paper then a computer screen" Jai retorted, "And besides, many of the pages here are talking about the murder if you noticed, so technically its not junk, but I will now in future put it in a nice pile under MY desk" with that he helped Bani to her section and made her rest, he called the nurse who told them the injury wasn't life threatening instead she would be limping with pain for a few days, she gave Bani a numbing spray and a packet of paracetamols.

----

A few days later Bani walked in and out of various shops in the Bullring, she looked in to Monsoon and instantly got attracted to a black semi flowered dress, she touched the material, it was cooling to her warm hands, she turned the price tag over to see it priced 198, smiling she put the dress back on the rail and popped into H&M to find a similar dress priced at 27.

Her phone buzzed as she paid at the cashier, groaning a bit she reluctantly took the call "Jai, I'm on my break" she hinted, she put her money away and pulled out a credit card, she typed the pin and grabbed the bag with her dress and left the shop, she walked out near to the escalators and called Jai back.

"Bani, serious" Jai said, Bani remained alerted, she walked out of the Bullring and went into Eat, a restaurant, "all the names of the women murdered are on newspapers, I think it may be on one paper not on two separate broadsheets as we imagined,"

"Hmm..." Bani said so Jai would continue.

"Right, now I'm going to contact all the publishers to see if any of the names I give them ring a bell,"

"Ok I'm coming into work in about," she shook her hand in a downward direction and pulled her white jacket to one side, she looked at her watch and said "40 minutes, I'll just place everything at home and be with you" she cut the call and sighed, her first day off and she's called back at work.

----

When Bani entered the hot office she saw Jai on the phone talking to a publisher to The Sun newspaper, he asked various questions but all gave the same answer 'They haven't heard the name before'

Jai's disappointment was evident on his face, his happy go lucky nature was taken over by a serious tone; he constantly referred to the fact sheets on the wall chewing on a pen wondering how his theory was proven wrong.

He opened his draw and pinned the newspaper cuttings found on the crime scene on the board, he cut a few pages of each newspaper he had on the wall beside it. He called Bani over and placed a blind fold on her.

"Is this a technical procedure?" Bani asked

"It's the only procedure we have" Jai said, he held her hand and guided her to the crime newspaper clipping.

"Its grainy, soft at the edges" she said, Jai took her hand to another piece of paper "this is soft, not grainy, the other one seemed like a recycled type of paper," Jai smiled, she was responding well to the experiment.

Jai continued guiding Bani through the papers, but it was fruitless as Bani felt all the newspapers were different.

That night both Jai and Bani stayed in the office on emergency, today was Wednesday, all the murders previously had happened on Wednesday nights outside a house that was standing by it self detached.

The police force were out in various places of Birmingham; Soho Road, Alum Rock, Saltley, Handworth wood, Handsworth, and Sutton Coldfield. No one knew where the murder may take place, but they knew they couldn't stand around and wait for the murder.

Everyone waited eagerly watching the telephone, Bani muttered a prayer under her breath, today she couldn't afford to have another woman murdered.

The ring of the phone shook everyone, Bani gingerly picked up the call, a tear slid down her face. She put it down, back on the receiver.

"Wolverhampton" she said whispering. Everyone in the office swore repeatedly. They gathered their belongings and went to the crime scene.

----

Jai was first to arrive in his Audi R8, he parked up and placed his hazard lights on, he pulled out a police light spinner and placed it on top of the car framework. He got on his gloves and showed his ID to another uniformed police officer.

He took away the sheet covering the body's face, he examined the neck first, it was cracked in half. He pulled out a picture of the previous bodies and noticed they had similar fates.

He gave a few instructions to the other investigators and walked away from the scene to interview pass-bys.

A clearly shaken woman's voice shook as she answered Jai's questions, "I j...j...just saw her," she pointed over to a pub near by, "then" and she cried. Jai knew pressuring her for answers would be useless. He thanked the lady, scribbled a few notes on his note pad and went to Bani who was examining the Body more carefully.

Bani flashed the light at the body; she gave the torch back and looked at Jai. "Nothing is obvious,"

"Hmm..." Jai turned his sheet of paper once more, "witness it scared, to be honest I don't really think she would be able to provide any evidences, she's shaken up and perhaps has miss seen the woman and the whole situation."

"Right..." Bani took off her gloves and took Jai's notes, "I'll hold on to these for a bit, what's the ladies name?"

"Jessica," Jai said, he moved to another part of the crime scene.

Bani read Jai's scribble with difficulty but managed to understand it; she approached the lady and asked her several questions "Hi, I'm Bani"

----

Jai and Bani flicked through the post mortem reports, again as the other women she died of an air bubble in a vein. The x-rays clearly showed the air bubble, however post mortem reports claimed the person had died of strangulation.

"Must be the use of blank injections," Bani said, she looked at the photograph of a small pierce in each of the victim's neck, the bruising appeared a few hours later, which made it difficult to see where the place of injection was by eye.

"Hmm," Jai pinned the photos upon the cork memo board, we pulled down a transparent sheet and pulled the pen lid off with his perfect straight teeth, he circled a few similar wounds.

"Air could be made to enter the circulation either through the arteries or through the veins. More commonly injections for murder are given in the veins. When such an injection is given, the air bubbles start travelling towards the right atrium. From right atrium they keep travelling onwards till they come to the lung. Here the capillaries are too narrow to allow the big bubbles to pass. The result is that these bubbles get entangled in the blood vessels of the lung. The whole blood traffic stops and the person dies very quickly.
In fact his bad blood can not be purified by the lungs, because traffic of blood towards the lungs has been stopped. The body can not imagine that such a sinister thing has happened. It "thinks" that the blood is not getting purified because of lack of air. So it quickens the respiration. The person starts gasping. But nothing helps because the cause lies somewhere else and the person dies…That" Jai hit the pen on the board "is how I think the murder has happened, then after to cover up the murder the person is strangled and left on the street so it looks like she is a street worker, but as we know by looking at their history that they were far from working on the street, these women had careers."

"Makes sense, Jai. But how can we capture this murderer, we can't afford to have another murder on our hands"

Jai and Bani's hours were spent checking and rechecking evidences, they made sure not everything was leaked to the media, they kept certain files to themselves, they went on investigations that no one other then Jai or Bani knew about.

----

"Bani I'm going to the shops, want to come?" Jai asked he pulled off his jacket from the peg and placed his right arm through the jacket then his other hand; he shook it a bit so it was in position. Bani heard the chime of money.

"You are going to pay?" Bani asked cheekily, she put her purse in her bag and grabbed her coat.

"Go on then, might as well, you don't seem to be the expensive type" He said back tongue in cheek.

"Charming" Bani said they walked through the automatic double doors towards Jai's car.

He quickly jogged to the driver seat throwing all the newspapers to the boot; he smiled at Bani and shrugged his shoulders, "sorry" he managed, they both got in and drove to the nearest Tesco mall.

----

Jai started to realise and understand why men hated shopping with women, Jai and Bani had been shopping for the last hour yet Bani was satisfied with everything they bought.

"BOGOF?" Jai said in shock. Bani turned back and gave him a punch

"Be careful what you say" she warned, she looked about at the other customers who were giving weird looks to them.

"What? Look…" Jai showed her a tin of beans with BOGOF written on it, "now what have you got to say to that?"

"Idiot, it's Buy One Get One Free, and he says he investigates outside work too" Bani sniggered.

----

That following night Bani and Jai had set up camp in front of many suspects house, they had the best people on for the job, and they placed many units in many places around Birmingham.

"Do you think we have the suspect?" Bani asked Jai as they sat in his car eating the food they bought.

"Don't know, I just hope this chapter ends, but looking at evidences seems we may have the murderer, he's been out with every single woman mentioned previously."

Bani grabbed her note pad and read out a name "Mark Smith"

"Say that again?" Jai asked, he put down his binoculars and looked at Bani.

"Mark Smith" Bani shrugged, "Does it ring a bell?"

Jai reached over to the backseat and flicked through various pages of the Metro newspaper

"Jai this is not the time to be flicking through a damn newspaper" Bani said angrily.

Jai read something quickly and placed the text in her lap; he put the gears in reverse and sped to another place with the police siren whirling. He grabbed the radio from the dash board and ordered everyone to the Sutton Coldfield area.

Bani picked up the Metro and read the highlighted name "Mark Smith" he traced her fingers over the ink. "Julia smith, Birmingham, B**: Edited Mark smith"

She picked up another newspaper that Jai handed to her and read "Amanda Jones, Birmingham B**: Edited Mark Smith. Julia smith, the first victim's name, Amanda, the next victim…" She gasped.

Mark Smith was the writer for the Metro newspaper, he would write the dating section and the relationship sector.

"We are surrounding the area; we knocked on Amanda Jones's door but were unsuccessful, over and out"

Jai hit the steering wheel and pressed his foot on the accelerator more, he looked over his shoulders, indicated to turn right around the roundabout and quickly changed gears. "Handing over to partner Bani, give her details," he gave the radio.

"Bani here run through the details"

"We are at Amanda Jones's house, she is not in, from news from the neighbours we are told she went out with a male figure, she was dressed in party wear, we are guessing she is going to a local nigh club."

"Has anyone informed the local places?" Bani asked.

"No"

"Well what are you waiting for? Get them informed. Make sure they take down the name of every person that enters the night clubs. Guard the clubs; we can't let this man go"

"Got it, over and out"

----

Everyone raided the Broad Street nightclub, Flamingo, Jai scanned the room to see Amanda standing next to a man who was stroking her face, and he indicated to his colleagues that Mark was near by.

They stalked mark all night, everywhere he went someone would follow. When Mark had gone to the bathrooms Jai and Bani found this time to escort Amanda to somewhere safe.

"Hi, this is the police, we are escorting you out the building as your life is in danger, please do not retaliate" Bani smiled warmly to give a positive vibe. Amanda's face nothing short of shocked, she looked at Jai who called his other colleagues to take her to somewhere safe.

Bani stayed behind with Jai much to Jai's surprise "Bani, you go too, I don't think it is safe here, I'll take the case from here, you take Amanda"

"I'm not leaving you here all by yourself," Somehow Bani felt it meant something else "I mean the case is both of ours," she added.

Jai didn't feel like arguing, he nodded to Bani and to the others, the nightclub had slowly emptied.

They all walked with guns pointing towards the ceiling at all times, Jai kicked open the bathroom door to see a dead man's head under cold water with his eyes open.

"SHIT" Jai said loud, he ordered everyone to keep their guns down, he got out the radio "He's dead, seems he killed himself,"

----

The case was an open and close case, nothing could be done as Mark had killed himself the way he had killed many of his victims.

"What a life to lead" Bani said sighing

"Always live everyday like it's your last, you never know when your time is up" Jai said back wisely. He handed Bani a mug of coffee "made by yours truly by the way" he said

"Thank you, you're an ok person" Bani said after taking a sip of the hot drink "nice, just the way I like it, Jai one question..."

"Yeh shoot," he stopped his typing and looked at Bani

"You drive a car, how do you get the Metro everyday?" she asked seriously baffled. "Its only found on public transport"

"Ah, Ms Julie on the desk catches the bus and train, I just asked her to get it for me every morning, she reads the horoscopes and I read the sports pages and anything else with interesting pictures." He smiled.

"Interesting pictures?" Bani raised her eyebrows.

"What? You're acting as if you never do that,"

----

Jai and Bani remained as colleagues, Bani understood finally that two heads on a case is better then one. She didn't mind Jai's flirty personality.

Jai on the other hand remained the same; he worked as well as annoyed Bani when he had the chance.

Bani wrote a few final words in her diary to end the day:

"He's not my boyfriend, but I love his hugs, his smile...his advice, his kindness and the times we laugh together...I guess I fell in love with our friendship."

Actually nicely done...Ms Henna...a making of Agatha Christie...but next time a little bit more blood and little bit of dishum dishum...our get our hero and heroine having a little romance...what's a good murder mystery without little romance.

Awesome SS, Henna!
👏
I liked the storyline; it was different and very gripping. The way "Mark" killed his victims was very intruging. 😉
